This might be one of the only analyses of Belly that makes sense. I've watched it twice, and this is the first time I feel like I understand it.

You have me really thinking about this film in a new way. I haven’t seen it for awhile, so this might be an excellent time to revisit it. Thanks 🙏

And don't forget when DMX is pointing the gun at the end of the movie DMX's character Tommy is shown blurred in the mirror behind the Man speaking words of truth to him. It shows the image in disarray out of focus and again blurred like eyes filled with tears and if you really focus and pay attention all though the movie implies otherwise because he is there to assassinate that Great Influential Man; look closer... Tommy was pointing the gun at himself in the mirror the whole time! Now, I don't know about the rest of you; but that's deep!

this film is great, i feel like hype tried cram too much into the 1hr36min runtime. at times i was thinking it needed to slow down

So hype Williams did a panel at complex con like three to four years ago and he actually admitted the original script was butchered and a lot was left on the cutting room floor due to studio interference. Hence why the plot and pacing was lackluster and inconsistent. So in retrospect we really didn’t see belly in its true form because if we probably would’ve got a different and preferably better overall story and film. The visuals and cinematography were exceptionally stunning but unfortunately the story suffered. Overall still an entertaining and fun urban crime drama but it wasn’t the best film on a technical and theatrical. But fortunately it’s strengths made up for it weakness

why is there no part 2 you struck gold with this one them analysis lore's belong to Eyes Wide Shut or The Shining or that Midsummer movie. a lot of films have real dark underbellies you need to runnthis one again and get into it! i know its work, so i cant be too asky, or whatever just think its worth getting into this sh* nice

If you are wondering about Belly 2 it does exist. It has The Game (rapper) decent storyline.. but was definitely a flop. It sucks because a lot of what they put in the first movie could have been saved for a better part 2. And it would have been bigger than the first if they kept Nas and DMX in it. It have been state property and paper soldiers x10

I can appreciate people’s fondness and your illustration of creative choices by Hype Williams in this film, but I never viewed Belly as this deep narrative after multiple viewings. I can admit certain things about the film such as the cinematography, but what else should be expected from someone who was known for videos before this? My belief is that the film should have focused on one central plot and stuck with it throughout, and that was the assassination of the minister, then develop everything around that. Although the “sequel” by the Game was titled Belly 2, I always knew what that was (especially after reading reports of “Beast” being in development with the same cast). It was a way to try to boost dvd sells by placing the “Belly” brand on that trash. Despite not holding the first film in high regard, I have to admit I was always intrigued about a follow-up to the first movie, after Beast was announced in 06. I was even hopeful that this would be a rare case where the sequel far exceeds the original, especially given the growth of all individuals involved (such as X, Nas, and Hype).

If they woulda blessed us with BEAST it would have made for a better sequel than the Game rendition..having Nas & DMX as the central characters in a true follow up woulda been astronomical... but that's the what if 🤷🏾♂️

It’s not a very deep analysis if the video is only 5 minutes bro. I’ve seen belly reviews/ brake downs that are at least as long as the movie if not that at least a 20 minute video. 5 minutes is not enough time for a deep dive into a film. Just saying
