The 2024 #kyderby was the 12th race at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 4, and Mystik Dan nipped Sierra Leone by a nose, with Forever Young another nose back in third. Catching Freedom and T O Password completed the Super High 5.

Will be interested to see if you put Sierra Leone on top or if you take a chance with Mindframe. It's Sierra Leone for me.

I am not putting Mindframe on top but I will be using him in multiple wagers. Sierra Leone is definitely my 1st or 2nd choice. I have not made any final decisions but Resilience really intrigues me at this stage. He is dangerous in this race.

@@JarrodHorak I can get on board with Resilience in the top 2. There are some negatives working against the other key contenders in this race. Resilience is one I keep coming back to in this spot. If you like him that much I'll likely put him in my exacta. I'll wait for your final thoughts.

@@paulv7554 He was late to join the Belmont list so I am still thinking things though. He was one that I liked a bit in the Derby but I hated his outer post in a 20-horse field for a stalker. He ran okay in that race and now he turns in a big work and is suddenly in the Belmont picture. I just feel like Mott has him ready to fire. Not sure if he can hold off Sierra Leone but I will be using him prominently.

I like Sierra Leone,two other intriguing horses,The Wine Steward(speed figures) increasing with each race and Protective,his thorough numbers suggest a big one,food for thought

The distance of the Belmont Stakes this year is 1 1/4 miles, and the race is at Saratoga.

@@maryabreu6924 Dornoch won the Remsen in the mud. Sierra Leone won the Risen Star in the slop.

I like Sierra Leone, Resilience, and Mystik Dan to win. Sierra Leone won the Risen Star on a sloppy track which I think Saratoga will be a sloppy or muddy track this Saturday. This will be a very interesting race, what don’t understand is the 2 Todd Pletcher entries of Mindframe and Protective, they are both very inexperience horses specially Protective who is a maiden, Todd is a hall of fame trainer, this is a bad decision.

Sierra Leone is the most likely winner and a wet track should not bother him. Mindframe would not be running here if Fierceness was in the race. The original plan was to run Fierceness in the Belmont and Mindframe in the Pegasus at Monmouth. Repole has ownership in both horses and he likes to run horses in the big NY races. Pletcher likes to run maidens in stakes races. He did that with Commandperformance a few years ago, with Dreamlike last year and Protective this year. They sometimes hit the board but do not win.

⁠@@JarrodHorakyes, you’re right and commanperformace and dreamlike were never successful in their career although both are still active. I think Todd is letting Mike Repole dictate where and how to manage his horses, which I think is bad for the horses, but money talks and he has little say about it.

@@Muskratlove It is usually a good idea to take baby steps and let these horses develop. Mindframe clearly has talent and they are throwing him into a tough spot. A safer move would have been to run him in the Pegasus, followed by the Haskell. His task is not impossible but they sure are asking a lot. Same goes for Protective. Let him break his maiden in a maiden race and go from there.

Protective has ability but they keep putting him in tough spots. If he does not overperform in the Belmont, I would expect his connections to put him back in a maiden race to get a confidence-boosting win.

The Derby was slow; so was the Preakness. New shooter is taking this.

6 horses ran in the Derby and/or Preakness, and 4 did not run in either of those races. Mindframe is the most interesting new shooter due to his two big wins and upside.

Seize the gray just won preakness how can you be that stupid to not bet him to win belmont

Winning the Preakness does not guarantee that he will also win the Belmont Stakes. National Treasure won the Preakness last year and faded in the Belmont Stakes. Rombauer won the Preakness in 2021 and lost the Belmont. 2019 Preakness winner War of Will lost the Belmont. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. Horses exiting the Preakness Stakes have captured just 3 of the last 21 renewals of the Belmont Stakes. If you like Seize the Grey, bet him. He will probably set the pace and his recent form is excellent.

Mindframe doesn't have a good pedigree at least nothing compared to arrogate

Pedigree aside, Mindframe is a logical contender based on form and speed ratings. His lack of experience could hurt him, and he may or may not handle the ten furlongs.

I personally don’t find this years Belmont special or even interesting. It’s lacking and thrill or excitement after what Churchill did to the derby!!

The Belmont itself frequently lacks excitement when the Triple Crown is not on the line. I am looking forward to the 4-day Belmont Stakes Festival at Saratoga. Plenty of good betting opportunities, and the entire festival of racing does seem to be generating some buzz. Fans will have the final say on the importance of the event based on attendance and handle. As a longtime fan of racing, I hope the entire event is very successful.
