Great job! I have a 1.6, so I haven't had to worry about the clock cap, but I heard you say that in a 1.6, it's best to replace it... Huh? To my knowledge, the 1.6 doesn't have a clock cap. Anyeay, it's nice to see you branching out, and not just focuaing on Nintendo, so much. The world is full of games, my man. Greets, from México.

Yeah the 1.6 has a clock cap but the issue isn't as persistent as it is in the older revisions. Really with the 1.6 it's the 5 largers ones just below the CPU. They all are still electrolytic and 2 decades old so they are bound to need to replaced at some point

@@BelowAverageGaming for real? Wow, I did not know that. Guess I'll habe to check my system, to see which ones they are, and what state they're in. Thanks, man!

Also on a 1.6 if the cap is just removed the system won't boot. You need a replacement capacitor.

The square pad is ground and its connected to the ground plate that runs through the board. The ground plate sucks a lot of heat away from the iron therefore making it extremely difficult to unsolder.

Hello! Do you know someone in Italy who offer this repair service? I've got the same issue... Thanks

After the damage is done, can I attempt to remove the corrosion along the traces? Or is the only solution to add the jumper wires? I just removed the clock capacitor. It was leaking and was certainly the culprit. Thanks in advance.

Oh yes, most definitely clean the traces. Use some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip If you have an old toothbrush that you can spare, you can lightly brush against those tracks to try to get those thicker pieces off Be very careful with this part, you can also use an X-Acto knife to lightly scrape off really bad areas.. If your traces are completely destroyed though, jumper wires are your only alternative.

@BelowAverageGaming Thank you! To the naked eye, they look OK, and really no visible chunks corrosion or disconnects. The alcohol and qtip picked up a lot, I couldn't believe it. I do have a 10x magnifier I'm going to check it with tonight to get a better look before I reassemble!
