Great video again!! 👍 Question: are you going to make separate covers (directly behind the belt) for longer belts or make the slot bigger (But than less under pressure)? Longer belts change the angle of the belt on the return side.
@matthiaswandel6 жыл бұрын
That little cover moves for different belt lengths
@Guust_Flater6 жыл бұрын
Matthias Wandel Aha...it slides! Thank you! 👍Is it just sitting there (friction fit?) or is it possible to fix it in the 3 positions? I would be a little afraid that, due to vibrations, it gets loose and caught by the belt and swings upwards....doing damage to you and/or machine. Just my 2 cents. 👍 😁
@matthiaswandel6 жыл бұрын
Friction fit. If it does fly up, it will get caught by the upper wheel supports.

My son used my bench grinder to shape wood once. We had a nice, smoky smolder going on inside the grinding stone cover the next time I used it on steel. Keep your eyes peeled for smoke and keep an extinguisher where you can get to it easily. It might be a good idea to open the dust collection chamber to inspect for problems after you use it on steel. Just a word to the wise.
@matthiaswandel6 жыл бұрын
Not planning on using it with dust collection with steel. Too much fire risk.

Had to pause for a while after the 3.05-second mark and go and change my Jocks, take a heart pill and calm down a bit,........by videos end my heart was still racing. Thank you for leaving in the 'warts and all' parts, that alone is a good example of thinking safety first. I still put a circuit breaker and a lamp in series with all my first-time running of prototypes, especially for old motors. Top Job, cheers from Michael Australia,

I guess it depends on why you're making this belt sander/grinder. Is it because you needed one or just the challenge of making one? I think for me I would buy one for $200 or so because my time is valuable to me. You did end up with a nice working tool but a bit Flintstoneish lol! I had fun watching you make it though and I'm now a subscriber. Now go build a wooden car. 😉

HI Mattias. Another great video. Are there any plans available for this grinder? Or even just a sketchup model. Thanks
@Feralhyena6 жыл бұрын
A featherboard, or better yet, a pair of FeatherPRO FP1 inserts, mounted so that they slide against each other when you engage the motor, but mesh when you get kickback, might cut it down, and give you some vibration absorption.
@bennyausdermuhle11736 жыл бұрын
If you would give the clutch between Motor and belt pulley an impeller Design, it would work as a fan and suck out the dust off the grinder. So you would only need a Collection bag :-)

Dear Matthias, these washer motors are great but they are not designed to be dust protected in their main purpose. I think that the motor MUST be complete covered on top with a wooden sheet or grounded metal (but not too close to coil and its air gaps to avoid overheating) because contact with metal chips coming from the grinder inside it will be at least destructive.
