When I competed in the Highland Games, I used a 2.5-inch black belt with parallel holes, like Rocky showed. It won’t catch when throwing and won’t get ruined if it gets hit or scraped. I use a normal kilt belt when dressed up and not competing, though I might consider wearing my competition belt if hiking or just wearing a T-shirt.

OH, I'm a 54X54" waist and hips, the belt is necessary to keep things up!! Thus the request for bachelor buttons on my Prince Charlie.

Sometimes I wear a belt as thin as 1.75, but I’m only 5’7” and relatively thin. I think a man of average height and girth should stay 2”+ like they said

I use a scaffolder's belt - great quality heavy duty 2" wide leather, cheap as chips, and only costs a marginal amount more for an embossed version. They are quite stiff when new, but a little dubbin (or saddle soap) and it wears in within a couple of weeks of wear.

What about country western belt buckles, or the wide range of belt buckles you can find in antique stores? Do those work with kilts?

I've got a 4 inch that works nicely.

Unfortunately, Grip 6 widest belts are 1.75". They have a wide variety of buckles too. One that Grip 6 probably made, but is marketed by one of your CHEAP (in every sense of that word) competitors is a Welsh Dragon. Grip 6 buckles are mostly much less blingy than your buckles. Better for a utility kilt I guess. I wondered why you'd not mentioned Sam Brown belts until you did in the wrap up. David

What's about a Sam Brown belt?

+USAKiltsOfficial *Thanks for the stylist perspective.* Had I my druthers, I'd pack a 5.11|̱̄⊞̱̄|TACTICALⓇ Sierra Bravo Duty Belt on my Five-Yard.

I don’t know about belts, but it’s time to change out the buckle. The way it attaches full-time to the belt, that’s never made any sense to me. Why not do it the way a regular belt is with a hinged loop underneath? Or, Off to the side so it doesn’t have that weird angle to it
