Thanks so much for this video, Kristen. My domain for a travel blog that I never got off the ground is about to expire and I'm looking for reasons to keep it. I'm sitting in my car at a dead end job literally trying to pull myself out of depression because I feel chained to this life that is so unfulfilled. This video has made me feel like I have nothing to lose other than taking a risk at something that could at least fulfil me in some way, if not make me some money down the road full time. I have the why, I have the want to share stories, Im an extrovert at heart and I love social engagement. This is the catalyst I needed to re-up on my domain and actually launch it to the world.

I love this advice! I am new to the travel blog community, after a career in the classroom as a geography and economics teacher. I am “older” and reading and watching your videos is giving me confidence to be myself. I was really worried about conforming, hiring out, and starting “right” - right from the start. I bought my domain in Feb 2020 and have stopped myself because I didn’t know where I fit in or have the tech skill to understand WordPress, SEO, etc. Following your advice, two weeks ado I committed to hiring the design and marketing out through my hosting provider. I focused on our most recent travel and my focus and joy for writing was amazing! Thank you for “being you” and inspiring me!

Hey Kristin, thanks for sharing. Actually i have just started my journey into this industry. May i ask if i should start my niche in different social media platform like Instagram, facebook and etc first so that i can build a good foundation of audience before creating my own websites?
@Bemytravelmuse5 жыл бұрын
I get the most out of my blog/website actually. I find that social media can be so fleeting. In the 6.5 years I've done this, so much has constantly changed but the most valuable part has always been what's mine - my site and writings.

Write out 10 ideas. Then walk away for a few minutes. Walk away for a few hours even. Come back and look them over, then weed out 5. Figure out if you have other ideas. Then get it back to 5. Now look at them and see the pattern of what you want this to be about. "Nomadic Matt", "Be My Travel Muse" who would ever think these could be something? The authors! It's unique to them and doesn't totally need to be "Nike" or "apple". It just needs to be you (and as simple as you can get it)

Ahhh, I'm sorry, I heard it too many times I just have to say it. Niche is pronounced "neesh", it's a French word for pet house. A smaller thing inside a bigger thing. House in a house.
