I think the difference is with Ken he wasn't fully possessed. So it's likely Ben and Co. thought the reason Ken was able to fight back was because the possession wasn't complete and this episode was the first time they found out the fully possessed humans are also fighting against the reprogramming.

I think there is something you're missing. In the episode Max Out, Ken is in the process of transforming so he can be turned back easily, however, Ben and the rest have no idea that the DNAliens keep their mind intact after the transformation is complete until this episode. It's a bit of an issue watching War of the world's and then rewatching the series brings up, but chronologically it makes sense still that they weren't trying to bring them back because they didn't know there was anything to bring back.

They thought that the DNAliens were mindless once the parasite took over and there was no chance as it made it easier to fight them. It's weird how rarely ben uses the "smart" aliens to do anything related to actual thinking. The only examples I can think of is Original Ben using Graymatter to count all the gumballs in a machine for something and then Brainstorm to calculate a perfect golfing shot as UAF Ben.

Which makes me kinda forgive that curing them was not an option before the finale. It never bothered me how much they beat the crap out of DNAliens, because they are pretty resilient. The fact that they never make a fuss about it to me implies that beating them up won't hurt the human they once were. Also, the way Team Tennyson goes about this is more smart to me. Curing DNAliens right now won't fix the bigger problem, cause Highbreed are still making more, and like this episode showed, they can just grab whoever Ben cured and turn them into DNAliens again. It makes more sense to me that Ben went about this once they actually stormed the Highbreed headquarters, and everyone on the bad guy side is too occupied with the fighting to worry about the cured humans. I feel the problem is Max Out depicts the transformation as if it's just a suit, when the name DNAliens, "genetic damage detected" and the fact they can open up their stomachs would imply that these aren't just living costumes, their body mutates into this form inside and out.

I think Tyler should have kept the DNA mask the same way Julie kept Ship where the Mask was his "power". I could see him becoming a Plummer Helper Spy recruited by Max off-screen and he has his own separate adventures that we never see that end up indirectly helping ben. It's also my head canon that him an Ken meet where max tries to keep ken out of the action so that he can live a normal life but fails leaving tyler to clean up the mess, sorta like buddy cops. The fun part is, because all of this happens off screen, this can at any point become retroactive canon without ever creating any plot holes since neither character is ever seen again.

I have always felt like the dnaliens were always a bit inconsistent at times. -sometimes they speak some alien language, and other times they speak straight-up English. - sometimes they carry weapons other times they just use their spit. -sometimes the technology they use looks more organic/like their homeworld other times it's just standard equipment that looks like they got it from somewhere else. Also, it's a bit ironic that the dnaliens need a human host to possess but at the same time need an identity mask to disguise the EXACT human they just possessed

Hey did you know that there are people in real life that can speak multiple languages like Spanish and English and can switch between said languages depending on their situation? Also I don't see how the other 2 points are really inconsistent either. They might not be able to supply every DNAlien with a gun so they have to use another way of attacking. (like their spit duh). And sometimes their technology look like standard equipment that they got from somewhere else... maybe that "somewhere else" might be Earth. You know. Seeing back this episode after all those years, I do get why Ben didn't shoot the mirror as Jetray. Of course he wanted to save Tyler, but more importantly, Gwen and Kevin weren't doing so great either. If the key dropped down, the DNAliens would've come back and put the team in a great danger. I think it's a wise choice of Ben to let them escape, so the entire team survives. Maybe it was a better idea for Ben, Gwen and Kevin to destroy the key when they found it, instead of trying to hide it, but of course that easily said afterwards

This is my theory. Originally Grandpa Max was going to be turned into a DNA Alien, however that plot was left out, that would explain that in the hologram that Ben leaves a DNA Alien is briefly shown that was never explained. Therefore that line from Gwen refers to that original idea

Maybe the changes in how they're stored is indicating that they're advancing and refining the xenocytes Also it could be that Gwen doesn't think max is dead, but he is still trapped in another dimension so he's still /technically/ gone, at least in a way that fits enough for her explaining to Tyler.

Ok so gonna be a rant but idk just wanted to give my perspective specifically on the final thoughts. So for the whole dramatic escape i think that was a false memory, like he has memory loss specifically for him being a DNAlien so that might be his brain filling in the gaps with the most likely scenario with his current memory being that he stole it. Also for the wallet i think that was not a creation by the mask but his actual wallet as a human and was given to him to remove suspicion if he was stoped by a cop or smth since he was traveling in a pretty open area and by very clear means. Ok rant over if you read all of that thx but I think there’s a better use of your time then reading all of but you do you.

I always assumed the crew just knew that the DNAliens were really sturdy, and could take a lot of damage. So they don't bother not using violence because they know it'll just temporarily incapacitate them or something. I think Ben not curing the DNA leans until the finale actually did make a bit of sense because he only got that energy version that sends out from the ominotrics when he gained master control before the Auni tricks not only had to prompt to cure the DNA aliens but he also had to make physical contact with them to do so and in a and most of the times there’s a small group or army of DNA aliens and in that situation he would not be able to cure them due to the fact that he doesn’t have the time or the ability to due to the fact that he can’t grab one without potentially getting attacked by another because it seems he hast to do that in human form until he gets the energy blast one

It's funny to think about that because Generator Rex has a very similar premise, revolving around curing EVOs instead of DNAliens. But it also tends to have violence because most EVOs are these gigantic berserk monsters that Rex can't easily touch and cure on the go, so he has to incapacitate them first before he does anything about it. DNAliens, meanwhile, are very inconsistent on their threat levels, sometimes they're insanely strong and difficult to contain and others they're just cannonfodder for the team to beat up. Maybe if they estabilished something like the Ommitrix only being able to heal one DNAlien at time, most of these scenes of Ben beating the crap out of an entire army of them would be a bit more reasonable lol

About the Gwen saying they lost their grandpa; it may not be in the sense of "he died" and more in the sense one would describe losing a pet because it got out or losing their kid in the store because they ran off As for them not curing DNAliens before then besides Ken; considering that they didn't think there was a cure until the Omnitrix mentioned genetic damage it's possible they assumed that up until the point they're fully converted the person that is being turned is still there and can be saved. It wasn't until this episode we find out that a fully converted DNAlien can actually break free from the mind control. Which seeing as they've fought thousands of them and only one ever showed signs of deviation around the gang it makes sense why they'd believe that once you're fully converted it's game over. In fact, Gwen saying "we almost lost my brother" implies that they assumed it was that way Unrelated but; does this episode show/prove that when DNAliens put on an ID mask they look like the humans that they used to be?

See I always thought that the trio saw the DNAliens as too far gone when the transformation was complete where with Ken he still had part of his human parts showing but with the others they mercilessly beat they thought they were too far gone and couldn’t be saved until the finale

When it comes to Ben curing the DNAliens, I wish we had just one shot in Max Out where it put an emphasis on the Omnitrix being completely drained after curing Ken. That way it justifies the trio not being curing all the DNAliens they come across because they don't have the time to repeatedly drain the Omnitrix and wait for it to recharge to do it a hundred more times. I also kinda wish Ben was only able to cure Ken because he wasn't fully converted and Ben didn't have the master control for full power, which would mean Tyler couldn't be cured until the finale.

Maybe what I would've done is, since they didn't end up keeping Ken around, have this be the moment where Ben finds out that he can help the DNAliens. The trio can still know that they're humans and can at least hold back but up until either this episode or around the time of the finale have them not know how to help the DNAliens.

I think this is the episode where they change the DNAlien ID masks from rubber to metal. I remember Kuro in a previous breakdown mentioning he thought they were metal and solid.

I always took Gwen claiming Max was still dead as her not wanting to give up information that he's around for the DNAliens to potentially get in case it came back to the Highbreed via Tyler not being fully broken from the mind control or if he was stolen back.

I do believe that ben does hold back a lot when fighting the DNaliens though we see countless times what he’s Capable of when going all out one of the best examples being when he nearly killed Kevin who just absorbed the ultimatrix several plumber kids powers and even some of gwens anodite power.

I can see that because being the case due to the fact that that is something that is commonly overlooked, Ben's ability to hold back. Though I agree with Kuro that an episode should be dedicated to why the trio still resorted to violence with the Dnaliens.

I mean I get where your coming from but to me I think the trio honestly thought that once a xenocyte fully transformed you you were gone, ben was barely able to cure Ken who was only about 80 percent done being transformed, before this episode ben probably thought he couldn't cure any full dnaliens until he was able to try with Tyler and it worked but even then probably required alot of energy and for Tyler to hold still which dnaliens often don't do and up to this point they had never seen any full dnaliens struggle or fight visibly with what they were doing, if anything they seemed to enjoy it so it makes sense that they didn't think they were still in there until Tyler showed up. But that's just my take and I probably missed some piece of evidence that trashes that whole headcanon anyways

DUDE! I just wanna say I am soooo fucking glad you call out how dark the lightning of alien force was. I thought I was going crazy or some shit. I don't know what this kind of art style does to like the brain like I knew it was "There" like that things were "Happening" but at the same time I felt like I couldn't see anything even tho I remember this show quite vividly. It would've been interesting if there was a new sort of limit, or stake imposed on Ben after last episode. What if he did actually try to cure as many DNAliens as he could, either before or after pummeling them, but he finds out how badly it drains the Omnitrix, meaning he can't do many quick alien changes. He has to pick 1 alien per fight, and has to find interesting ways to work around their weak points. For example, he picks Big Chill, but eventually runs into a situation where Humongousaur would be more appropriate. How would he use Big Chill to circumvent the problem?

I feel like importance should be a 3 personally, but besides that, I perfectly agree with the rating and reasoning... this was a great episode that showed an outside view of the trio and how terrifying this is, and for those who aren't as clever, it finally answers the question of what they are doing... mostly for kids who either aren't following the story plot point for plot point or just aren't willing to put the pieces they have together to understand, hence my belief that importance should be higher than it is... there's nothing in particular you will miss that matters, but it spells out the answers and gives a lot of closure to things for watching it still

I also think all this goes against the point that the series itself tries to make about the Omnitrix not being a weapon. I personally never bought it when Azmuth said it was built to be the ultimate device for understanding all the beings in the universe precisely because the occasions where we see the Omnitrix being used for non-combative purposes are so few and far between.
