It could be _because_ it's his first usage of Clockwork. Remember, one of the Ultimatrix glitches is that it _doesn't_ download the instincts of what an alien can do (Shocksquatch's debut in Heroes United, for example), Ben has to figure shit out as he goes (and Ultimate Ben didn't think it relevant to tell his past self "hey, this is what windy-up time boi can do", maybe because the timeline needed Ben Prime to figure it out on his own?). Compare with Atomix's debut in OV, where he immediately knew how to super saiyan stuff, because the True Omnitrix did give him the info on what an alien can do. ...As for Chromastone, who he's had for basically all of UAF, yeah, crystal boi got nerfed hard.

This truly felt like an episode that needed it's own full review since we never saw something like it prior and after. Ben and Gwen going on a solo mission since the trio can't realistically always be together. Nemesis being extremely dangerous attacking Ben in his human form and attempting to kill him, facial surgeries, Jennifer becoming attached to where she'd kill others for him.. people actually being killed in pretty realistical ways compared to the Alien explosives format. With it to end with a hit or an attack but simply Nemesis giving himself up in order to protect Jennifer to where the public believed he kidnapped her rather then the actual truth with her crying and biting her lip show that they truly loved one another. With Ben and Gwen simply watching and not interfering knowing the battle was done and there was really no winners in this episode. A nice detail about the episode is how it Carl never gets into his armor. To draw a parallel to Iron Man, the big part of Iron Man 3 was how Tony could be a hero without the Iron Man armor. Meanwhile, this episode is showing how Carl doesn't need the Nemesis armor to be a villain.

This is my favorite episode of Ben 10 UA. While I wouldn’t call it a flawless episode, it’s definitely a well put together episode. The episode shows it’s themes well of how fame can affect an individual, how revenge can change how a person acts in any situation, and how it tackles stockholm syndrome, which shown in the episode is really hard to let go or understand. Someone out there has explained this in much better detail that I could, but this is why it’s my favorite episode in UA.

I'd probably say it's the best put together episode in UA, at least in terms of telling a cohesive narrative in a TV episode, and one that doesn't rely on cheap filler content (like superfluous fights). I said it on the Ultimate Kevin breakdown and I'll say it again. With some tweaks this episode could've worked wonderfully in that arc, give Ben and Gwen some time alone to reflect on the situation, especially Gwen, since she never got to come to terms with the fact that her boyfriend became a monster (perfectly paralleled with the plot of this episode). Hell, I'd argue that at some point it *WAS* supposed to be part of that arc (since Kevin not being in this episode is extremely odd) but they couldn't finish the episode on time or something. I have no proof, but it just fits too well.

this also could have led to a very natural segway of Ben reflecting on how he initially responded to Kevin and was more ready to kill him than his other villains. Then they could naturally transition to Ben agreeing with Gwen to work to save Kevin and have him be a lot more compassionate in their dealings before turning Kevin back. The story beat of “You don’t have to be an alien to be a monster.” Vs losing control over his abilities and sacrificing his humanity to save all reality and getting abandoned and attacked by everyone for it. Gwen was virtually the only person who stuck by his side. Scenes like him getting stopped at his mom’s house and not being allowed to see her because of his appearance and uncontrollable nature was heartbreaking. His whole world was shattering before him because he made a choice to save the universe and everyone treated him like a monster to be put down (again barring Gwen). Its the fact that Ben was more serious and ready to take Kevin down than deal with Greg. Its part of the reason I will partly always hate UAF Ben.

Eh, good point honestly, however maybe the injury simply transferred to Swampfire in a way that prevented him from healing the injury, like maybe when he transformed into Swampfire whatever controls his ability to re-claim limbs was damaged since Ben's normal arm was damaged, like if Swampfire has lost the arm in the episode he wouldn't have been able to pick it up and reconnect it since the "thing" that allows Swampfire to reconnect his lost limbs would be damaged just like the bone in Ben's hand. That's just me speculating tho so who knows? Maybe Ben totally could have grown a new arm or healed the one he had while in alien form and didn't think about it, or maybe the Ultimatrix takes a "snapshot" of Ben's physical health before transforming and turns him back into whatever state he was in before transforming regardless of the damage present, which would mean Ben would've still had the broken arm even if he actively healed the damage while transformed. That idea probably makes the most sense to me since the Ultimatrix isn't perfect by any means, especially compared to the Prototype/Re-Calibrated Omnitrix.

I love this episode so much. When I saw it after rewatching UA for the first time a while back, I was FLOORED that this episode got as dark as it did. It really felt like this was the creators doing their part to get as dark as they could get away with in a time where they were getting increasingly pushed to be lighter and campier. It felt like a stark return to the grimmer atmosphere of the early Alien Force seasons. But it's not just the fact that it is dark that's why I love it. There's a stark difference between darkness and maturity, and I think this episode dips far more into the "mature" camp, where it treats the situations it depicts, and the relationship between Nesmith and Nocturne as legitimately mature. I totally agree with the others that say that this episode deserves a full breakdown and analysis. this episode was supposed to be a full breakdown, this is one of the main episodes i was most excited to see a breakdown of when you first started this series

I remember thinking this was an ideal episode for this era of the franchise. The original show taught lessons a kid should learn, with subjects a kid could handle. But a show made for an older audience, with teen characters, should try to instill examples of what they might experience in adulthood.

Man, it’s pretty wild to see Kuro basically praising this episode the whole time while it gets a 16/25 on the rating. I get it but it does feel wonky

It is a shame we didn't get that many human villains outside of classic and even then most of the human villains in UAF and OV were just classic villains brought back with varying degrees of success.

This episode was my first exposure to the concept of "Stockholm Syndrome." After looking it up and learning more about it, I always painted this episode in a different light than every other Ben 10 episodes; not because of how "dark" it was, but because of how "real" it felt.

I forgot that captain Nemesis legitimately murders someone this episode. I didn’t like this episode as a kid because it wasn’t action filled as the others and as cool to me as the other lore but looking back I understand why. I barely understood what murder and Stockholm syndrome was. The Omniverse universe reset was honestly dark Af and kinda wish that it hadn’t happened but this… this is just plain dark as a cave

I think this episode definitely deserved a higher score in visuals. It may not necessarily have anything thrilling or exciting going on, but it uses its visuals so effectively. For sure it doesn’t deserve a 5, but I could see a 3.

Maybe it’s just me but I feel this episode confirming stuff like Stockholm Syndrome exists in Ben 10 makes it harder for me to like Gwen and Kevin as it paints their instant attraction in a darker light

Omniverse confirmed that Gwen had a crush on Kevin even when they were kids. Which makes little sense, but sure, whatever.

I had just learned what stockhome syndrome was when I first watched this episode. And I remember muttering to myself "This sounds like stockhome syndrome." moments before Gwen actually namedropped it. And then I was like "Nailed it!"

The fact that this is in the same season as "The Mother of All Vreedles" is wild to me. Something that I like about the UAF era is that it had the flexibility to be really silly and fun in some episodes and really serious in others. I feel like some of that was lost as the franchise continued.

I think when ben recreated the univeree to a more nearest degree, he mia have shrugged it off a bit, due to being unaware to the potential consequence that might come arise like a new being like dagon or probably a reason any multiversal incursion if made possible.

I absolutely love this episode. I already liked Hero Time and it gettinga follow up is great. I actually never saw this as a kid and just saw it a year or two ago. Captain Nemesis is a great villain for Ben and the emotional abuse displayed in this episode is really fucked up and authentic. This needed a full breakdown more than any other episode, but I understand the time crunch and honestly this stuff can be pretty heavy if you really break it down. Correct me if I'm wrong, but have we ever seen a regular human flat out die and have a body remaining on screen? UA would have been such a different show if we had more episodes like this.

This episode solidified UA as my favourite show, not just of Ben 10, but in animated series in general They decided to explore every single challenge and darkness of living a hero's life Being forced to kill his best friend, forced to commit genocide on a group of people who won't back down, murder, publicity problems, his family being targeted, political problems, used as a celebrity to promote a company, and all the things mentioned in this episode While all the other shows make fictional problems for the fictional heroes(minus the classic lack of time for loved ones etc.), this show dared to make it's fictional hero face all the real world problems

I had a feeling Kuro would do a quick review on this episode, considering how suggestive the tone/themes around it are. But in all seriousness, this episode disturbed me a lot when I first saw it. Kinda sad how they followed up on it or Jennier's character later, but at least Cpt. Nemesis returned.
