THE REVIEW
I watch each episode with my own commentary, often pausing the scenes to get my words out without having to talk over the episode, and also to point out and analyze the show's art and animation. I have seen each episode already growing up, so these reviews are to compare and contrast the five categories listed below.
PLOT (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
The foundation of the episode. Uniqueness and overused tropes are taken into account, but it is also judged on how well it tells the story of the episode. An episode can score a 5 even with a basic/ cliche plotline as long as it has good pacing, worthy use of its tropes, and feels well-polished. An episode can lose points due to plotholes, uneven storytelling, and relying too heavily on cliches to do the work for it.
CHARACTERIZATION (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
How well the characters are written. Do they feel like themselves compared to the grand narrative of the franchise? Are the supporting or one-off characters interesting, or pure plot devices? Did the humor land? Did the actions and character motivations make sense?
VISUALS (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
Basically, everything that happens on-screen. Character Design. Animation. Backgrounds. Creative mechanics and solutions. If there is CGI or digital effects added, how well do they blend into the show, and were they used as an enhancement, or a crutch?
IMPORTANCE (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
This includes, but is not strictly based on, how important the episodes are to the current story arc (if there is one) or the general narrative of the Ben 10 Franchise. Points can also be awarded for how impactful the episode was, or how favored/ important it is to the general Ben 10 fanbase. I ask myself, "If I skipped this, would I be missing out on the 'Ben 10 Experience?' "
ENTERTAINMENT (Scaled from 1 to 5)
Pretty much the most important part of developing a tv show. You can be perfect in all four of the previous categories, but the episode can still be boring. On the flip side, the episode can be absolute garbage, but still an enjoyable watch. How likely would you be to put this episode on if you were in the mood to watch Ben 10?

Saw Randy Cunningham years later and learned chickens are closely related to T-Rex instead of pterodactyls, and yet for some reason, the pterodactyls in this are referred to as "dragons" and "dragon men". The cop is also what my step-dad would call a "Barney Fife" cop.

At least we were introduced to Juryrig, easily one of Ben's best aliens...in Omniverse. Also the "fixfixfixfix" moment looked really off. You could tell the UAF artstyle is not meant for more cartoony animations like that.

Kinda makes you wonder if that's why the Celestialsapiens keep changing the art style (which "Universe v Tennyson" proves is something that is actually observable in-story), they somehow "know" which aliens Ben Prime is going to be using a lot in the near future, and make changes for them to be more usable (because they probably know the continued existence of the infinite multiverse, _them included,_ depends on Ben Prime... as well as No-Watch Ben saving the former). ...Hey, now there's a concept, what would the Ultimates look like in Classic's style?

One interesting fact is that FastTrack and Chamalien both never got official figures. And Jury Rigg didn't even get a figure until Omniverse. So even Bandai didn't want to bother making toys of these filler aliens.

Yeah in my opinion these new aliens in Season 2 of UA were... mostly the point where the designs and powers started to be weak. I have grown to like both Jury-Rigg and Fasttrack a bit more by now, but at the time I thought they were disappointing. And I never really liked Eatle due to him feeling like a discount Upchuck. But yeah, aside from the rather clever idea behind Jury-Rigg's powers, this episode is one of my least favourite in UA, and kinda illustrates an issue I mentioned with UA before: tonal whiplash. We moved from a very dark and gritty episode about Stokholm syndrome and an arc about a lovecraftian god, to a goofy episode about Animo using a farm to make pterodactyles. That was... weird for this show. ... Though admittedly this episode being mediocre to begin with didn't help.

@@alienx8900 The esoterica crossed dimensions at a the speed of a dude jumping through a door, it's not an instant teleport. They were annoying to fight because they were tricky to hit, but you see forever knights hitting them during their war. Also Kevin is straight up not faster than light, cartoons don't use real world logic when it comes to laser beams 99.9% of the time which is why so many cartoon characters will dodge lasers and lightning while not being anywhere near fast enough to realistically dodge it.

There is NO evidence of XLR8 going faster than time. He in Baseball episode he was so fast that "Cameras 📸 failed to capture him" this is however NOT a ridiculous feat because even in real life Bruce Lee was able to hit so fast Cameras were unable to pick his speed. XLR8 Baseball feat is already calculated by Character Stats and Vsbattle wiki both and it's Mach 136. FasTrack scales to Kevin who dodged a FTL (Faster than Light), radiation beam from Pandor in Ultimate Alien.

Transformation balancing is definitely a big issue in UA. Ben has an extremely large arsenal at this point but a large amount are completely neglected in use. The new forms Ben obtains near the end of Season 3 are definitely one example but another one is the extreme lack of use in Ben's Classic arsenal. Despite Ben reunlocking everything he's previously used in Ben 10K Returns, and correct me if I'm wrong here, I don't think Ben uses a single Classic Alien he didn't already have access to after that episode, which is massive wasted potential. The new forms themselves though, a lot definitely fall in with Ben's more forgettable transformations, their sparse use being one part of that not helped by Omniverse straight up not using Chamalien and Fasttrack but their designs also aren't that great imo. Clockwork is pretty good and Chamalien is alright, but Fasttrack doesn't stand out much, Eatle is very boring for what the idea behind him is and... well as you said no one likes UA Jury Rigg.

2nd paragraph is definitely true. I mean he used Ghostfreak once, and Fourarms a couple times. But Diamondhead, Waybig, and Murk Upchuck he already had. Edit: My mistake, he also used Wildmutt once or twice. I for one really wished we'd seen the monster themed aliens more in UAF, as well as the original series. Snare-Oh, Frankenstrike, and Blitzwolfer.

@@Scout819 If we want to get very technical he already had Ghostfreak in Ben 10K Returns as he was reunlocked in AF S3. Wildmutt is a bit of an oddity though. He randomly reappears in a second long cameo in the episode prior to Ben 10K in production order. This actually ends up making a lot more sense in airing order as Ben 10K aired before that. Heatblast is actually in the same boat. I also would have liked to see the moster aliens more. They're really cool but were heavily slept on even in Classic, to the point where Ben even lampshades their underuse in OV when he transforms into Snare-Oh again, saying "Aw man, I don't even remember this guy's name" or something along those lines.

It always confused me why they added fasttrack and juryrigg instead of using xlr8 and greymatter. juryrigg is different enough from greymatter to be interesting but you could replace almost every instance of ben using fasttrack with xlr8 and it wouldn't change a thing.

Its kind of weird, because we actually see xlr8's hologram when he's cycling through his aliens in this episode, so we know for a fact ben has access to him, but he still seems to prefer using fast track over him, even though xlr8 has shown better speed feats and has more control over his speed than fast track does. I guess the writers didnt want to show ben using xlr8 for some reason, but they still show us his hologram as a way of teasing him.

feel like at some point they should have started slowing down how many new transformations ben would unlock cause it’s gotten to a point where there’s so many of them they’ve just become obsolete both in show it’s hard to implement them into actual episodes and outside the show there exists so many it just becomes hard not to care for some of them

I found Gwen's statement strangely genre savvy. She's just like, "Yeah, no, he can't be THAT lame." Looking back, it would've been a great time to bring back Greymatter. Because Juryrig kind of feels like a bootleg/edgy remake of Greymatter until Omniverse gave him a unique enough personality and abilities.

Though it makes Grey Matter pretty useless outside of his small size. Brainstorm is shown to have an IQ of 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 in OV, so even if Grey Matter is supposed to be even smarter than that, it's negligible, Brainstorm is more than intelligent enough. And Juryrigg is better for anything involving machines.

In gwen’ defense, what evolutionary advantage would a species get from exclusively breaking complex machinery? It’s much more logical that natural selection would select “powers” that are relevant long term. If it lived on a planet with highly advanced machines that needed to be destroyed to survive, eventually there wouldn’t be any machines left and that power would be lost over time. If instead there was a second factor to that power, it makes more sense that it would still be around.

I personally defend this episode with a visuals of 4 and entertainment of 5. I can't give plot or high characterisation, but this episode is memorable and is genuinely the comeback for fastrack, and is the difference between me liking and hating fastrack. @The Rust Bucket

"which is faster than anything base XLR8 has shown" ummm my dude he was moving os fast in the baseball episode it was like time has stopped and a full stadium of people couldn't see him. speed of sound ~750 mph, speed to be impercivable to the human eye ~ 38000 mph, XLR8 has shown feats of speed over mach 50. like that was THE XLR8 episode come on my guy fasttrack is just diet XLR8.

The fact that the not actually a dinosaur pterosaur monster can talk and the others are based on his DNA means that they are just babies, and turning them into chickens and thus robbing then of there sentience means Ben and crew just committed genocide against a new sentiant spieces, you know, FOR KIDS!!! ( Don't get me started on how this episode proves how the writers don't understand how evolution or cladistic work, we will be hear all day)

Actually, what if the problem that the Ultimatrix (as Kuro theorized in some video.... Or was it even offically confirmed?) doesn't gives Ben the insticts of a new alien anymore -unlike the Omnitrix- therefor Ben can't relie on it while fighting, loosing the control in important situations, and that's why he is unwilling to use them....?

Like a lot of their weird character redos, the probably should have just made a new character instead of completely changing the old one. If they wanted chad science man, then make a chad science man, don't turn Animo into a completely different guy for no reason lol. It just creates needless confusion and inconsistency. You could say this about almost every character in UAF, they did it to most of them, even core main characters and some alien forms.

TBH both xlr8 and fast track are speed aliens, and its never made explicitly clear how fast either is in the actual show. They are both as fast as the plot/writers want them to be. Outside material claims xlr8 can run at 500 mph. However, some episodes of classic have xlr8 moving far faster than that, with him being able to stop time and react to lightning. Xlr8's speed is very inconsistent. The same could be said for fast track. He apparently was faster than a point blank explosion, but he still struggles to catch up to animo's missile in this episode because of plot reasons. Neither of them have feats that the other couldn't feasibly accomplish

Nothing in the show itself suggested that Fasttrack was slower than XLR8, that was just trivia from a crew member who hated Fasttrack. Fasttrack only became "slower" than he was written out of the series in favor of Ben using XLR8 again.

Fasttack defeated Esotericas "Faster than they could JUMP from their Dimensions" and faster than Gwen and Kevin could hit them, Same Kevin who in "Too Hot to Handle" episode dodged a FTL (Faster than light) Radiation beam from Pandor in Ultimate Alien making Fasttrack FTL+. Dodging Lightning is just Hypersonic.

@@fran_valz Incorrect a character can dodge laser gun all they want BUT that will not be accepted unless you PROVE they contain property of light. For example: In Ben 10 Astrodytcal and Ragnarok shoot yellow ray that is NOT lasers unless you PROVE they contain property of light therefore they are simply "Energy beams" and dodging Energy beams is only Hypersonic. Kevin and Big Chill dodging Radiation is the most impressive thing in Ben 10 since Radiation ray contains property of light. So no those lasers from original Ben 10 show that XLR8 dodged in a"Ben 10 versus Negative 10 episodes" these are NOT lasers, Those were simply Energy beams unless you yourself can prove they emit property of light.
