Ben really was unique. His folkstyle wouldn't have translated well to freestyle; he used awkward twisting motions that would by freestyle rules have exposed his back, BUT his freestyle was a whole different approach that got him to the dang Olympics! I like watching his weird, but effective techniques, both folk and freestyles.
@billybud95573 жыл бұрын
Interesting to compare the technique and intensity of this match 13 years ago with those of today. Thanks for posting.
@tribeman193 жыл бұрын
@Brandon Castle He's truly an outlier. His lack of technicality was his biggest strength even in MMA, on paper none of it should be effective: plodding forward, using awkward head movement and dips, and practically tripping forward to get his hands on his opponents, yet before they know it, they're on the ground and on the receiving end of ground and pound. I suspect this pattern will translate into his boxing match. Great breakdown of his wrestling career, by the way.

@rollenswollen66943 жыл бұрын
You really cannot contemplate the strength these guys have at their peak.. it does not compute to weightroom strength (lifting weights) but rather the density of the muscle fiber compaction they achieve from throwing each other around. True story - I was stationed with a one brian vanhoven at Quantico Virginia while serving in the Marines. Brian and I were comparing moves one day, whilst I was a Marine martial arts instructor.. I proceeded to lay flat on my belly (weight 200#s) and Brian proceeded to side lift me cleaaaar up over his head to the other side..😮. His weight, around 167 - 169.. unreal!

@aarond89583 жыл бұрын
College level he could be among top 15 GOATs maybe. Pinning everyone. People still mention how kids changed weight classes because they knew they couldn’t win 174, similar to people going 133 to avoid Spencer Lee. Qualifying for 2008 olympics right after college is a pretty big deal. I kind of wish he would’ve kept wrestling instead of mma/grappling to see how he would’ve done in the subsequent world championships and 2012 olympics but I suppose at least he got paid going the route he did.
