I just preordered those Iron Maiden models. It may be the most recklessly impulsive purchase I've ever made... other than the time I bought a 4k TV while in Bristol for YogCon... With regards to the TV, I'd been considering getting one for a few weeks, and then when my partner and I went to YogCon you couldn't get to the HDMI ports on the TV in the hotel room. So when my partner and I wanted to watch KZbin on the evening, after YogCon was over for the day, we'd have had to have used my tiny laptop screen. So I bought a TV from Argos, set it up in front of the one in the room and hooked my laptop up to it. God knows what the cleaners thought when they came in and saw a huge telly set up in the room haha.

I mean everything you said was true, but a lot of the Starship Troopers book says Hyper-Nationalism and Authoritarianism is the way forward, so I am okay with him being dunked on a bit.

@@jekanyika I mean I can't speak for Ben while it is pretty overt in Starship Troopers, other stuff from Heinlein lacks the pro fascist stuff especially his earlier stuff. That said he has always had a weird love for war and his thoughts on race and gender are really weird even at the time he was writing and seem to have gotten more extreme as he got older. Like a few of his books, including Starship troopers have this weird overtone of racism and sexism are bad but only because we all have a place based on our race and sex in this perfect utopian society and only by fulfilling that role (defined by a stereotype) will that society continue to exist. To be honest it's pretty creepy, but maybe not if you don't think about it too deeply, like at a glance it's just a future where there are gender roles. All that said the military service is required for the right to vote and to run for any political office is a major Fascism red flag in Starship Troopers.

They have to be "boots" as well to protect from external elements. Armor protects from blows and projectiles, but usually has gaps and such, so it doesn't keep out water and gas and such, which I would imagine would hamper a Space Marine

The boot debate is moot. Sabatons are a form of boot. A boot is just a fitted covering of the foot. That you can further specify the type of boot to be a sabaton, just meaning it's armored, doesn't make it a non-boot. Also, the greaves are the leg plates in the blown-out section of the diagram. Greaves are definitely not worn on the feet.

Well * _actually,_ * sabattons are only the _foot_ segment of the harness, not including the ancles (which are protected by the _greaves)._ Thus, it would be a _shoe._

Sabatons are just the heavy metal armor foot slot. Does that count as boots? I think of boots as being heavier than shoes.

I think that next campaign tom and ben should have a look at using the table top caps mod by DrunkFlamingo. It results in more fun and balanced armies than the base game imo and it is also applied the ai so no more dumb spamming of high level units like phoenixes or sisters of avelorn (iirc they've had to ditch a few campaigns because of that).

Internet Historian "man in cave" and "costa concordia," sounds like they cover the same sort of topics as Well There's Your Problem, who also did episodes on both topics. WTYP focuses on engineering disasters. The did a caving episode which included the guy who wound up head down in a hole, and yeah...if I have to squeeze between tight rock faces, that's a place I am not going. I was in Mammoth Cave (zero crawling and squeezing required) and the tour guides at one point turn out all the lights and...well you may think you know what "darkness" is like but when you are in a huge space with ZERO photons, the dark is almost like a substance you can push against. Everything you'd called dark in your life, you realize were just poorly lit.

Not that they didn't try their hardest to fuck it up, but RoP would never be faithful to the lore: Amazon doesn't have the rights to the propper books, just the apendices, which don't cover all the that much nor feature all that many characters and they wouldn't be able to fill the blanks with the actual lore or they'd be adapting the books. The show was fated to be original characters going through original plotlines from apendix name drop to apendix name drop And it's not like people object to changes to the lore either: Arwen was barraged when stuff started comming out of the Fellowship of the Ring but people moved on once it became clear the change was what an adaptation was supposed to be like, i.e. making concessions when going from one form of media to another. Peter Jackson's Aragorn is also vastly different and people don't hate him (personally I even prefer him to Tolkien's) What people didn't like was that hollywood's pattern of leaning on diversity for diversity's sake and milking memberberries for all their worth was looking like it would be repeated in the show, meaning their focus would be in ticking items off their bingo cards, not in crafting a compelling narrative

Don't get me wrong, Disa not only seems cool but people's obsession with bearded female dwarfs was a bit misguided cause I doubt it'd actually look good in a visual media, even if the written text supports it, but for an adaptation of the works of an english professor who said he abhored allegory, Amazon sure didn't hold back. It was there, front and center, because they knew people would take the bait and from that point on, every critic simply has a problem with skin colors, even if black, female Disa was far less criticized than black Arondil and far far far less than female Galadriel. And mind you, they could have made the show about the south and east since there's little written about the blue wizards and have a cast as diverse as anyone could possibly ever want but ultimately, sliding diversity into what already exists takes less efgort than look for it
