My husband was asked to come talk to Ben who was listening to him drumming in the room next door. My husband believed in the band he was with, so he kindly said no thank you. Well, the singer of the band was (Merlo Podlewski) who went on to be Jack Johnson’s guitarist & my man became schizophrenic. Life is strange. I know there is a divine plan, but sometimes my heart aches for what could have come. My children & I have missed our beloved Eli’s musical gifts for so long. Ben has a song, ‘Widow of a living man’, that is me. Bless it all❤

This is how cool Ben Harper just happens to be. Back in L.A. around 1999 I didn’t even know who Ben was. I was working at this small shop washing cats and dogs. Practically with tears about to fall from his eyes this guy brought in Samson a gray Weimar Reiner dog. Samsons was in need of help. Long story short, we hooked Samson up. And then that nice guy came regularly to get Samsons groomed. One day I was walking through Hollywood across that street from solar records and saw Samsons dad on the cover of a magazine that called him guitarist of the year. I exclaimed that is Samsons dad Ben! Next time Ben came in to the shop. I was like dude! Ben brought us autographed CDs. Several times Ben took me to cash my checks and drove me back to my place in Hollywood. There’s more to the story but Ben Harper was the epitome of how more people should be. He loved Samson. Samsons handlers while Ben was on tour neglected to take care of Samson. But when Ben was in town he was one of the most caring kind and devoted dog owners and person I had ever met. Believe it or believe that! 🫡🙏👍✌️🤙

I saw him playing before PJ Harvey in Madrid. It must have been around '97. The sound guy cranked him up and it sounded like Hendrix's wailing guitar. Good memories. I've been thinking about Ben Harper a lot lately because, more than ever, we have to fight for our minds. The Internet is contaminating the deepest corners of our souls and his song title "Fight for your mind" might have been a prophetic warning.

I figured I'd share a memory with you. In March 2024, I took an unexpected trip to SPI, TX, and I was driving over a beautiful bridge, listening to Lifeline. I got stuck in traffic on the bridge for a while, and Paris Sunrise came on.... The Sunset behind a lighthouse, with the ocean.... And, the song...... I'll try to find a picture...
