Thanks Chris, I've been studying hogan's swing for over 30 years. You're spot on with how the shoulders turn. This i believe was one of hogan's secrets. Started with the left shoulder and keeping the left shoulder high and the right low. I shot my personal low for nine holes a 33. Three under par!!! Thanks for your great advice!

First, congrats on shooting a 33! Second, I love the fact that you've been studying Hogan's swing for 30 years 👊 Whether that be Hogan's swing or any other player. And shout out to Chris for his instruction that led to better play. I'm impressed and give great respect to you for studying the Hogan swing and to Chris for keeping the Hogan principles relevant in the 21st century. Here's my abbreviated take on the Hogan swing and the so-called secret or secrets. You may be skeptical. You may not believe me, but I offer it because We're all here to learn and anybody that studied the golf swing of any great player for 30 years would appreciate the sharing of information..... Back in the late '80s I was a student of Henry Picard. If you study Hogan then you probably know his first book. Power Golf was dedicated to Henry Picard. Early in Hogan's career when he was struggling and out of money it was Picard that offered financial assistance to Hogan so he would not have to quit the tour and go home. When Picard left his Head Pro job at Hershey Country Club he convinced the board to hire Ben Hogan as their head professional. It was Pic that suggested Hogan weaken his left hand on the club ( hint.... The answer is not your standard "to keep from hooking"... there is a very specific reason). First time I met Gardner Dickinson was at Frenchman Creek Golf Club in late 1983. Later.... I had a lesson with Gardner Dickinson at Loxahatchee Golf Club in Florida in the mid-90s. The lesson went very well. Afterward he asked me to play nine holes. Note: He did not play. He drove the cart. So he watched and I played. It's been a long time but I believe it was a Monday, the club was closed and I think we were the only ones out there. It was like the golf gods tossed me the biggest bone in history 😂 . Obviously the subject of Hogan and his swing came up. Sorry for being long-winded here. Regarding the Hogan secret or secrets..... I will tell you it was not the shoulder or I guess you said the left shoulder....it was not. One day, I think it was 1988, I drove up from Hilton Head Island, SC and met Pic at a shabby driving range on John's Island. That afternoon he gave me a lesson teaching me how Hogan did it. Yes, the shoulder were important to Hogan. Every aspect of his body golf swing was important. In a nutshell.... both Hogan and Pic believed the golf swing is.... ***Posture ***Plane ***Balance (footwork) (It is dynamic balance...balance in motion....it is not static balance) Beyond that ..... "everything else is details" Tidbits.... *** The better the posture, the flatter the plane. *** The flatter the plane the better the swing. Okay I'm out of time. Got to go for now. If you are curious feel free to ask me a question

Thanks for sharing. The tilt in my opinion is what is messing up so many golfers and has been for a while. Remember what happened to Aaron Baddeley back in the day, 2007 US Open under pressure. He was the poster child for Tilting. He was the 54 hole leader and shot an 80 on Sunday.

That’s a fantastic way to describe that movement. The stack and tilt clan don’t want this clip to go viral. One question that I have for you is how to deal with your head / chin wanting to turn too much toward the right shoulder (away from the target). Hogan seemed to turn his head very slightly at the beginning of the backswing, so the left shoulder was definitely turning under his chin. However if you emphasize turning back level, the left shoulder pushes the chin back with it, then it has to move back to the left a lot on the downswing, and just doesn’t look or feel right. It’s something I struggle with. Do you have a suggestion on the best way to get the left shoulder to turn under the chin, without purposefully tilting it down? Thanks for your help, I love your videos.

In a somewhat underrated study, "Golf My Way," Jack Nicklaus addresses this issue. What he explains is that when the player sets up to the ball, there is a natural tilt in the spine, because the right hand is lower than the left on the club. He explains that what he strives to do is to maintain this exact tilt all the way through the swing, by rotating (at the angle of) his spine. I'd say that this book is a good complement to Ben Hogan's, because it has specific pieces of advice which are in "The Modern Fundamentals of Golf," but you have to look for them. These would be keeping the head still, i.e., behind the ball, maintaining the spine angle, shifting the weight to the right arch, keeping the left wrist straight, and leading the downswing with a rearward thrust of the left hip.

I have a couple probs with this video. For one, it is important to note that Ben Hogan was pretty short, especially by current standards. There are some who dispute his height based on pictures in both directions (taller and shorter) but computer analysis determined he was 5'8 inches tall. People close to that height absolutely can and should pay attention to the lessons his swing can teach you. However, if you are 5' 10+ you should NOT swing your shoulders, hands or arms as "flat" as Ben Hogan did. Find a more personably suitable swing to learn from. If you are on the taller side, you will have more "tilt" by the nature of swinging more upright and on YOUR plane. The other problem is in your demonstrations you fail to show how, despite being a flatter swinger, Ben's left shoulder DID get under his chin. In your demonstrations your chin remains behind your left shoulder. That would result in huge head movement, huge inconsistency, as well as a huge power loss. That is the opposite of Hogan. At one point in your demonstration, around 7:52(but other times as well) your head is actually over your right foot and your chin is behind/below your left shoulder. While Ben did keep his head behind the ball through contact, his head NEVER got that far wide to the right to be over his right foot. HIs chin also was over his left shoulder. Maybe it is unfair of me to examine 1 vid of yours and rip it like this, but I could not let people think that this much improper head movement is ok. It absolutely isn't. Furthermore, I think it is always important to mention that taller player mimicking a shorter player's swing is a bad idea the same as a shorter player mimicking a taller player's swing.

Diff subject. I’ve seen recently where it’s being said that getting to impact isn’t swinging across your body. The turn gets you to impact. Hmmm, I say, well what about Hogan? The “free ride” that Hogan mentioned? Is that where is just turning, and keep turning w/o doing much with the hands and release until the drop at impact?

A new video will come out next week that is going to change everything for everyone for the better. Even if people are trying to learn the Hogan fundamentals or the fundamentals of the modern teachings the video that is coming, in my opinion, is going to take golf swings all over the world to a new level. I know that is a bold statement, but one I believe to be extremely true. It is going to be a lot longer than the other videos I usually do, so make sure to watch it, from a bigger screen device.

Hogan’s upper body was very erect at setup, but he turned his shoulders on a steeper plane compared to his spine angle at address. Which means his upper body became less erect, and caused his head to drop 3 or 4 inches at the top of his backswing, a dropped another couple inches by impact. Also Hogan turned his shoulders 90 degrees to his spine throughout his backswing.

I'm with ya brother, but i think like so much of this funny game this is a "feel" rather than an actual position relative to the ground. Like you said the right shoulder should begin lower than the left. Ok. And then maintain that axis through backswing rotation. Ok. BUT here's the deal with the feel---the lower body is rotating as well on a slightly different plane where the right leg goes into extension and the left goes into flexion. Which all results in a right shoulder being higher than the left at the top creating a tilt. Not really an illusion yknow?? But im with ya brother, great stuff!

Hogan was a knuckle dragger...none of us can get into those positions...

It's not about being a clone of Mr. Hogan. It's about understanding his fundamentals that will allow golfers to reach new levels in my opinion.

If I had a dollar for every guru who tells people that's not what Hogan did. Hogan had a flat swing so not sure where you're going with this.

I don't believe you can hit the ball. Being able to pull all this stuff off Can you give a credibility. Saying I'm telling you Isn't good enough. Stop feeding your ego and your pocket by utilizing ben hogan's name

I'm calling it ..the emporer has no clothes on - ! watched a lot of these videosbut there are some serious flaws - the fact we have never seen the presenter even show a full swing in real time never mind hitting a ball in months of videos ? - Full respect if i see this guy nails some beautiful golf shots - There is some good sense to much but there are also some terrible head positions , stance leg positions .

With due respect ask Butch Harmon to hit a few for you, or better yet David Leadbetter … guarantee you’ll be disappointed. These guys offer thoughts and ideas, if you don’t like them don’t watch.

What you are saying about Leadbetter may very well be true. However, you are dead wrong about Butch Hartman. He played on tour, so at one point he had to be able to hit quality golf shots.
