This song was inspired by the book "Blood Meridian" by Cormac McCarthy. Ben Nichols wrote an entire album based on that book, and this is one of the tracks. It was written before "The Walking Dead" existed. That said, Ben Nichols is an excellent singer/songwriter and if "The Walking Dead" led you to discover his talent, that's a good thing.

Quite knowledgeable. Yes I heard it from walking dead. There are a lot of good songs used in the series, i specifically am looking for any music containing or referencing the words "Last Man" Honestly I'd have to say this song is at the bottom of my list, not talent is quite the word I'd use but it would do in a pinch, just like it did for the Walking dead. I'm guessing somebody on the set had a friend who knew a guy that was in a band tryin to make it big, kinda thing.

This song is so amazing. It's the very definition of bittersweet. I am one of few who actually liked the Governor and saw him as a very tragic character. This song was perfect because it showed how he was broken, spiritless, and lost the will to live. The part where he has his beard grown out and his clothes are rags and he is filthy and can barely even muster up strength to move out of the way when a walker attacks him. I think the saddest part of the entire series is AFTER he storms the prison and kills Hershel, and his new love interest bring her bitten daughter back to him, disappointed that he failed to protect her. He coldly picks her up in his arms and shoots her in the head. That was the moment he died and any humanity left inside him was forever gone. Very touching and heart breaking although he was a monster that deserved to die he was once a loving father and husband.
@danielvlee9 жыл бұрын
He was a true psychopath, probably as the result of childhood abuse, but in some situations it seemed like he could be a decent person... Just not when he had any power or purpose.... In other words, when he was kept extremely humble by outside forces, or by the results of his own actions, he was actually a decent human being. The psychopathy came out in full force, however, when it came to power or protecting loved ones. He really is a fascinating character.

@Remus88Romulus9 жыл бұрын
Jon Kline I agree! You are thinking EXACTLY the same as me! Many people say the Governor killing Megan without hesitation is he showed his true colors. He never loved Megan. But i think it's obvious he DID LOVE HER. He shot her without remorse because she was bitten and dead anyway and he just lost it when he saw her dead in Lilly's arms. He shot himself so to speak. I am 100% sure he would kill himself IF he had wiped out Rick's entire group. He had nothing else to live for. He had lost everything. He gave up when Megan died. He didn't care if he lived or died. Sure he wanted Rick & Michonne dead and he took out all anger on Rick.He probably would shoot himself with his Beretta pistol or walked into walkers after conquering the prison.

I watched the first four seasons of TWD with my girlfriend. A week later, we broke up. When I come back to this song, I can't help but cry. I feel like the Governor in season four. No will to live any more, but still going because I have to, with no one to blame but myself. I truly loved her and miss her more than anything. Word of advice: If you love someone, don't take them for granted, and treat them right. I hope one day we can finish the show together if our paths cross again.

one of my favorite songs. I think about this song every time I am on my motorcycle with my aspirations to travel west across country. The only thing in my way is the setting sun. To the west the soul is bound. I owe my thanks to the Walking dead producers for hooking me up with a good song.

This was suprisingly one of the shows best episodes. NIce catchy song too. I was growing tired of the same prison setting and this episode was a breath of fresh air. This song helped make me believe that the Governor was a changed man. Not a big fan of the show but this episode was a path in the right direction.

Can there be no redemption for the wicked? Can a man with a broken soul not be mended? I am a Marine, even after everything I have done, everything I have seen; and I have seen horrors that would send most men screaming into insanity never to return; then right along side of that I have seen heart stopping beauty. Hope is eternal, redemption is possible. Semper Fi.

No, there is no forgiveness for someone who murders dozens of his own friends in cold blood by his own decision. Redemption is for grey area type actions, like the ones you're probably talking about. For the governor no.

Ricardo Amendoeira He seemed quite "hot-blooded" on that moment ! ^^ I think some people here don't happen to conceive the difference between redemption and absolution. The fact that the Governor may be destroyed by the conscience of his actions, or the fact that he changes to find back the humanity that he had lost... well, all that do not remove anything to his crimes, to his guilt ; but it actually makes him a better man. Nothing can change the fact that a criminal is a criminal ; but the redemption of the human being, of the soul underneath, is always a good thing - no matter how despicable the crime is.

***** You are correct sir, earning the title and spending 30+ years serving as a US Marine makes me a Marine. Celer, Silens, Mortalis! Semper Fi!

I love how at the beginning of the episode, when she asks what happened, he said he just lost it, as if he has come to terms with what he did

WALKING DEAD!!!!! This song is just so powerful and beautiful. WALKING DEAD!!!!! The Governor aka Phillip aka Brian WAS a very tragic character. Honestly I think one of the saddest broken hearted moments of the entire series is after he turns bad again and kills Hershel and they are storming the prison, and then his new love interest brings her daughter (now bitten and in effect dead) to Brian, disappointed that he failed to protect them. He just calmly picks her up in his arms and shoots her in the head. He had nothing left after that. No reason to go on living, and I found that part to be tragic in that the Gov WAS granted a second chance at life and redemption, but succumbed to the world and it's chaos again.

Mike Mike I think people are neither good nor bad, so he never technically "turns bad again". He was simply human, although I think his character leaned more towards the side of evil. He was acting evil even while he was caring for Megan and insert-love-interests-name-here-cause-I-don't-remember-it, remember? He killed multiple people, lied, stole, threatened, pillaged, and otherwise acted poorly. Was he still a fantastic character. Absolutely.

Ben and Jeff Nichols are a double team of talent, and both come from Arkansas where I've lived since I was 3 months old. Was born In Tennessee which Ben from Lucero also mentions a lot in his music (such as in the song Texas and Tennessee.) It's great to see these guys putting my home state on the map, loved seeing Dewitt, AR in MUD. Been listening to Lucero for sixteen years, and the music's always great. Hell I remember Red 40...also Jeff has only gotten better at making films. His first was a low budget but great film called Shotgun Stories, then there was Take Shelter, and of course MUD. It seems like the music and films only get better with time.

I enjoy searching for songs, as I know that somewhere, at some time, in some programme, the song has been used, and there is a fierce battle between 'Why I am here' raging on each KZbin comments page :)
