Law is supposed encourage or discourage certain actions by every individual or certain nation. That's what it's for. The fact that you don't understand what law is for and how it works doesn't mean it doesn't work. There are always some repercussions for breaking a law, either moral and ethical or those stated by the law or both.

If you haven’t noticed, these mass shootings only tend to happen in civilised nations once, then the government gets rid of the kind of weapons involved, AR 15s and the like, then it just doesn’t tend to happen again People still get shot, as you say criminals will always get illegal weapons, but not to the extent it happens in the US I wonder what the common factor might be?

I'm not trying to be offensive when I point this out, but statistically speaking, many of the guns used in crime in the Democratic cities like New York, Chicago or Detroit are, for the most part, brought over from neighboring states that have less restrictions. When people talk about Chicago as an example of gun control not working, they often fail to mention that while the city itself as strict gun laws, the state of Illinois itself has relatively lax gun laws. Just adding that.

You shouldn't make general assumptions if you don't have facts. Secondly per capita yes Detroit is on the list of high crime city's, but definitely not one of the only 3 that have been mentioned in this conversation , actually speaking there are 13 city's in California that would also be considered high crime per capita standards, and doesn't California also have some of this country toughest gun laws. 3rdly according b4 recent election results Michigan was a democratic state but since then was won by Republicans how I don't know, but that here nor there.honestly I know of more pro gun Dems then Republicans that love there weapons . It's not a republican/democratic issue or failure off policies it's actually more of a problem that this country has a failing judicial system, with not a harsh enough penalty for gun crimes! There are no facts to counter. He immediately goes to "they want to take away our guns" which is just wrong. He says there is no history of mental illness. There isn't because no one can afford mental health care, and those who can don't want to for fear of getting a diagnosis. Background checks are flawed, some aren't even completed before the sale of a firearm. Background checks need to be expanded; people need access to mental healthcare so we can know who is and isn't mentally stable. But yeah, this totally has to do with the election, caught me there. Someone I grew up with committed an armed robbery in a leftist area with strict local gun control, he was caught and went to prison, but when I asked why chose that place to rob, he said he "chose the place because he knew nobody there would be armed but him, which also let him flee from the scene. Criminals do not want to get hurt themselves. They don't go to neighborhoods where they know there are a lot of guns. Any criminal will tell you that they actively seek targets who are not equipped to defend themselves. A lone criminal will pass you by if your carry yourself with confidence and a "kick butt" attitude. Like I said, a criminal doesn't deliberately put themselves at risk of being hurt or killed. Now, a group of criminals is a different story, especially if you are 1 and they are more than one.

Anyone has a idea of how many lives were saved by guns? My mother utilized her rifle three times in defense of her family. We're a hour away from any forum of law enforcement so we delt with issues in the here and now. With my mom owning six rifles, not once has she ever handled one with disregard or malice.
