That logic is dumb. If your parents owned a house, and the house appreciated in value, and they left you the house when they passed away, you now have wealth that you didn't have to work for. So even though you didn't do any of the work, you reap the benefits. The country that you live in, the USA, has benefited greatly from slavery and several unconstitutional policies that followed, such as Jim Crow and Redlining. As your family benefited from those policies, my family was harmed, and the entity that either caused the harm or failed to protect my family (as they were citizens and we are supposed to have equal protection under the law according to the Constitution) is still very much present and thriving, and that would be the United States of America's government. So it doesn't matter if you've never owned slaves or I've never been one, I suffer the damage from my family being harmed by the United States government failing to provide my family with equal protection under the law for generations. The government owes for those failures in clear violation of the constitution, and as today's citizens reap the benefits of what America has done before, it's citizens also owe that debt.

Britain should try and repay for the wrongs it did in it's past. It should be responsible for it's own actions as a nation. Reparations, as in just handing over cash, is probably the wrong move but we should definetly invest, trade and give opportunities to people from nations who we wronged in the past. Also, Britain is by far the biggest foreign aid giver as a percentage of GDP, and this policy was implemented by our CONSERVATIVE party. Britain takes responsibility for it's own people and for people who we wronged, or atleast we try. The US on the other hand won't even help lift up it's own brothers and sisters who are disposed, needy and in need of some investment. Reparations to native Americans may be based on multiple breakings of treaties by US government--made with native Americans. There is legal precedent for that. Would not reparations to descendents of slaves thru the war on poverty desegregation affirmative action count? I'm an Asian living in the States (I don't have to say my nationality when I'm just stating my race, like "African-American", so I can make myself feel more American than others). Asians were forced into building railroads, sent to detail dynamites, caged during the Japanese internment camp, and they continue to receive many forms of societal racism such as Hollywood perpetuating Asian stereotypes (half the time Asians are acting as Kim Jong Un, a Japanese running away from Godzilla, or a Chinese with a bad accent) and private universities discriminating against Asian applicants (by the way, both of those groups are deeply left). I don't think Asians should be given reparations for all the miseries and sufferings that they have went through and will go through in the future, not because they are financially better off on average, but because many of them have never experienced the majority of those sufferings and there is no end if we start paying people for all the mistreatments that has ever taken place. We will have to pay absolutely every one in every race whose ancestors or themself have ever been oppressed in this country. This includes every individual. Even white Americans were oppressed by the British at one point. The idea is just impossible carry out and it only makes you victim-minded which is never a good thing. Give it up already. Go earn it, don't beg it.

My Grandmother was orphaned at age 10 in Riggins Idaho when her Cherokee Father and mother were murdered, she grew up in an orphanage where her culture and religious beliefs were stripped from her. Reparations doesnt even have to look like what most people assume it is i.e. cash. It could be free higher ed at HBCUs, free mental health therapy, birthright trips to Africa, and those 40 acres would do just fine. ;-)

Jewish people didnt say ‘oh well thousands of soldiers died in World War II so that’ll do. keep your reparations!’ Welfare recipients are majority white women so again, not the equivalent of reparations to African-Americans. Liberia was close but failed because...well...its not advisable to colonize an African country and oppress the natives lest they cut off your head.

I grew up with others that were a mixture of not just brown flesh, one really with white patches, one with brown patches and one with really black skin and one really close to being white skin color (albino), however all we were buddies and I never really figured out my Indian friends color ( I have yet to meet a "red" man). Yet we played ball and hung out together in school and out. We had a great time. Most have passed and leave me with great memories. Oh yes, and I met a "white" person that turn red except where his swimming suit and hair was, but he was in a lot of pain for awhile, as was I.

General Sherman seized 400,000 acres of land from slave holders under field order #15 and divided the land (up to 40 acres each) amongst the newly freed that joined the Union and helped free the remaining. Sherman never mentioned mules, Malcolm X added the "and a mule" part 100 years later. The Union Army did not have 28,000 mules to divide up but Sherman did give the order to allow these men to use the Armys mules when available.

It's not about living people idiot. It's about the us government. Just like a corporation, the US government is considered an entity. This entity codified into law the slavery of and discrimination of black. As a result, this entity should pay what is due.
