As a Canadian and avid hockey fan, the NHL is well known for shooting itself in the foot. They should be promoting games like Calgary and NY Rangers the other night. Best game of the season, massive hits, fights, entertaining game in every sense of the word. Meanwhile, they want to try and ‘grow the game’ back pandering to soccer moms and advertisers. If they ever put more of an emphasis advertising the physicality of the game, especially in the Deep South, hockey would take off. The NHL is just comically incompetent at knowing what they are selling and who exactly is buying it. They would rather push for less contact and fighting to get pushed out of the game by sports journalists who have never played the game.

The only thing I would add is that a large part of the hockey fan base is in Canada, and while there are conservatives in Canada, as well, the overall culture is more to the left than here in the States. That could also be a contributing factor in these decisions.

I would say that in Canada, hockey is enjoyed by pretty much the whole political spectrum. Even in your country, many of the big hockey cities are in blue states so it might explain why they are trying to have woke stuff.

I am a pretty serious figure skating fan. *That Finn is NOT the world's first transgender figure skater.* Might not even be Finland's first. That person was simply the first to be showcased -- unworthily and embarrassingly -- at the World Championships with a solo exhibition. Eliot Halverson, now 22, is a transgender-nonbinary individual who has won U.S. championships at the intermediate, novice and junior levels. (Those divisions are for skaters too young to qualify for the senior division, the elite skaters you see competing on television.) A physical male who uses she/her, Halverson competed in the male division, and finished as high as 10th at the Junior World Championships in the 2006-7 season. She also won multiple medals on the Junior Grand Prix circuit, the major international competitions preceding Worlds. She is now active as a coach and choreographer. I very much doubt that Halverson has been the only accomplished transgender figure skater in North America or Europe.

I mean it's an ok topic to cover but I feel like I'd rather see this show focused on covering sports and trying to avoid politics. Break down the games, the schemes, the personnel decisions, coaching decisions, etc. And I know you guys do such things but sometimes the politics creep in a bit much. I agree with Ben's take but just don't want you guys to turn into right wing sports coverage. Just cover sports.

Thank you for putting this so eloquently. I agree 100%. No matter my views or political beliefs, I always wish that sports news can be just that. Information or even personal opinions on the games are amazing. I just feel like every so often we get these types of things just slipped in too. Ben is truly a person of high intelligence and I respect his thoughts even if I don't agree with all of them. I can still appreciate the person though. I have many friends who think or believe way differently than I do, but I respect their beliefs as they respect mine. I don't try an cancel them or shame them or banish them from my life. Between the news an now so many sports shows putting their agendas ahead of the actual sport itself has caused me to almost solely just look up scores or watch the highlights on mute. Sorry for the rant but thank you again for your opinion

Just highlight i need to give - the more graceful figure skating seems to be the more effort it takes - if you watch yuzuru hanyu you'll see nothing but smooth but he's in fact going against g force. So skating, properly done may look bit feminine for outsiders where skaters know it's hercules task. Now to give that clown who can't neighter skate or pick himself up is a robbery - there was a woman who was training all her life and that representing spot was supposed to be hers.

Ummm I haven’t ice skated in probably 4-5 years minimum and i am 1000% sure I could walk out on a rink right now and be far better. I could be in a mascot suit and put up a better performance. I honestly feel bad for this person because regardless of how you feel about trans athletes, They’re exploiting someone to try to virtue signal or something… there are probably thousands of male figure skaters, it’s probably the one sport that men and women can “play” together.
