Well, let's-let's say that maybe Shapiro isn't really an intellectual. Let's say that he's just, promoting like-- let's say, an image --- so that he can take advantage of- let's say- the not-so-intelligent and let's say that maybe he doesn't actually know that much, and uses so-called facts to misinterpret stuff and build a narrative... Yeah? Let's just say that he doesn't know what he's talking about and just replaces making good points with fast talking. Let's say that he sometimes calls out actual accurate facts but then goes to, let's say "great lengths" to--- to make it look like what he's saying is true by, let's say, omitting some information or making correlations where none exist or maybe, let's just say, that he sometimes interpret some correlations as causation and vice-versa. Let's just say that interpreting data is hard only when you're trying to do it correctly! Let's say that his tic of saying "let's say" constantly is just there because he's not actually talking facts but, instead, let's say he's actually just... uhh--- keeps, let's say, bringing up theoretical situations and circumstances out of his, let's say, ass but he says it with such conviction that those that, let's say want to believe those--- well you can say "facts" but just for the sake of argument let's say "lies" because that's what they are, by sin of omission and misinterpretation or, let's say, lack of forethought, and that's what his audience wants: lies dressed up as facts that confirm their biases. Let's just say he's a sham and a con artist. Shapiro's a fraud and more often than not will completely ignore facts that don't follow his narrative. I'd say that "let's say" is more of his catchphrase than the other one since it's what you're likely to hear most of the time when he talks unedited but also because it perfectly encapsulates his real tactic: building a theoretical reality where his words are the truth so that he doesn't have to be burdened by facts and can just spew lies and half-truths to DESTROY his interlocutors. He's completely superficial, smoke and mirrors, thunder and noise. He has a point to make but in order to do so he needs to build a whole other reality every time he does it which says very much about the point he has to make and how valid it really is. ... And that bit about people selling their flooded houses once the sea level rises is absolutely golden -- much deep-thinking there.

I’ve used “they “as a singular pronoun as long as I can remember to refer to 3rd parties if I don’t/didn’t want to reference their gender. And that was well before trans/non-binary issues became mainstream. It’s pretty normal in American speech already, just a minor transition to accommodate for people that’d prefer they/them as their pronouns. Not really sure why this is an issue
@JohnSmith-fz1ih5 жыл бұрын
Same. In fact there were times when I’ve used they to refer to a specific person because their gender was unknown, and this was well before I’d heard of anything relating to non-binary gender. A simple example is if I know someone has a friend called Sam. I want to refer to Sam, but I don’t know if Sam is male or female. This is the precise same usage as referring to someone non-binary as “they”. It’s nothing new at all. Not to mention that Shapiro should be ecstatic about this usage of “they”. He’s countless times whinged about having to remember all number of pronouns. Here’s the solution; a single pronoun to cover all of those confusing non-binary people. It’s the perfect solution but he’s mad about it. Almost as if remembering different pronouns wasn’t an actual concern at all. Almost as if that was a cover for his real fear. Almost.

The “facts don’t care about your feelings” mantra has always fascinated me because it seems to imply that there’s something inherently wrong, feminine, emasculating about even acknowledging feelings - feelings are nothing more than an impediment to thinking logically. This was really nice to hear. I'm back with family in a conservative state, and no one uses my pronouns (also my dad listens to borg shorg). Remembering that I'm not alone, and that we as enbies belong in the world, makes things a little bit better.

when people give that "they" take, I like to remind them that "you" used to be plural, "thou" was the singular. These things change all the time because humans use language and it's a tool we created and are constantly in the act of creating.
@OneEyeShadow5 жыл бұрын
Either way, that's one of the common uses of the word now. Saying it didn't used to be or even it shouldn't be just doesn't change the reality of the word's usees nowadays.

@1:40 as someone with a degree in Linguistics, this made my head hurt. Conservatives spend a lot of time telling people they disagree with to stay in their lane while pretending to be experts on things they clearly don't understand.
