There is also a surprising amount of people who don't even understand Hamas started the war to begin with. They think Israel started the war out of pure evil intents because social media told them and they don't know it is a lie. For them it is a geocide because social media didn't tell them what Hamas is doing. It also being backed up by how news from the war spread around: Israel estimates when telling the news, Hamas reports. Lack of critical thinking also plays a factor. Not many questions how Hamas can identify 500 casualties in 10 minutes... It gets worse when even the UN is backing up Hamas despite their own investigations suggested Hamas is the evil one and lies.

Where it applies is if they are "ignoring" the truth, fundamentally twisting it in adherence to doctrine (seriously, read the indicated passage), or believe the "truth" of others over actual research. It is somewhat dependent on how you deconstruct the question that was asked and how the individual came to that wording. Also relevant is that this is a "debate format" (as opposed to "lecture" or "Q&A" format) where one of the goals is to discredit the speech of the opponent or to score "points" by making the other side unable to support their position. Ultimately, the question was asked in such a way as to illuminate the Islamic faction, Hamas, as the "poor oppressed freedom fighters" as compared to Israel's supposed heavy-handed, goose stepping, even "genocidal," actions in rooting out said faction of militants.

People don't know what war means. In order to bring Nazi Germany down, the Allies not only bomb German cities, but, as an example, also German forced labour camps, killing Poles, Jews and other innocent people; the Royal navy bombed the French fleet in Mers-el-Kebir so it would not fall into German hands and killed 1,200 French sailors. Was it necessary to win the war? Who knows? The commanders ordering those attacks thought so. Again, war is terrible and it always kills innocent people. I am German and I stand with Israel.

This is where I bring up the restriction of humanitarian aid and the indefinite shut downs of hospitals for civilians in a warzone. I know Hamas will use some of the aid to sustain themselves and have used hospitals to stage attacks, but that isn’t a justification for Israel to shut it down and subject the civilian population to horrific, life-threatening conditions. It’s made worse by the fact that the people in Gaza can’t leave. They are surrounded on all sides by Israeli forces. Israel controls the border with Egypt. And they can’t just move into refugee camps, since it’s very apparent they aren’t safe from air strikes there, either. You can say that Hamas is a repugnant organization that couldn’t care less about it’s people, but that isn’t a justification for Israel to engage in extraordinary neglect (and “neglect” is being charitable) of the humanitarian needs of the civilians in Gaza.

If anyone responds with "Israel started it in 1948" they need to reread the history books cause they didn't start it.
