Just hope he doesn't lose that motivation and passion which is easy to have when your the underdog. Once you're highly rated, its difficult to stay hungry which is what makes the big three so special and they manage to act like the underdog despite being expected to win everything. I'm already becoming a fan though as it's awesome to see Shelton's growth

JJ was pushing Shelton around half-way in and was dominating the court. With the finish line in sight (granted it was a ways away), JJ seemed to drift out of the zone, lost a tad of focus and started making UFEs letting Shelton back into match. JJ will learn from this great five-setter. He possess big, solid groundies with plenty of home-grown technique and style, platformed by an enviable temperament. Courier said Shelton was signed to Federer's boutique (meaning select) player management group when Shelton was 250 in the world. Huge talent. Let's see how he goes against top 20 players.

Shelton has a big forehand similar to that of Shapovalov. His serve is big too. If he stays away from injury he is going to be tough to handle. He's about 195 lbs. though. Big guys sometimes have injury problems.

The funny thing is in the ESPN broadcast, they were incredibly biased to Shelton. Announcers couldn't hide their excitement on every Shelton serve even during portions of the match where Wolf was ahead. They even kept talking about how his energy and play rises to a higher level in the biggest moments, despite the fact he had lost both tiebreaks at that point. It made it hard to enjoy his moments in the match.

Impressed for sure. Shelton kind of reminds me of the easy, barely contained power of shapovolov. But he can be more consistent with that two hander. First American I’ve seen in a long time with all the stuff there, just needs refined. Tough loss for JJ. Played great.

Shelton reminds me a lot of Shapovalov, but with a loose-gun vibe, someone with an unmatched feel to tackle shots that are normally considered uncomfortable or risky. Huge potential here.

Screaming and throwing insults at an opponent is a different matter, but Shelton is not doing that. He's just exhibiting his enthusiasm for his shots. I doubt any professional player is bothered by that; only someone thin-skinned who thinks prim and proper behavior on the court is the hallmark of a "good" player.

Shelton's game still has a lot of holes (BH return for example), yet he made QF of a GS. He's got great composure, and of course that explosive serve and FH. If he can improve on his fitness and weaknesses, watch out tennis world.
