It’s because China has been in the final stage of development as a country for the past 15 years or so and finally has the resources and infrastructure to produce elite world class athletes in an array of sports as opposed to just their national specialities like table tennis.

He's over ranked because of favorable draw/results at AO. However, he still has huge upside, but will likely drop then work his way back up. He should ultimately be a top 20+ player. Exciting to watch. Would like him to tone down celebrations, but he seems like a good kid. Personality is not a bad thing, and we need more of that in the game.

From this little highlights, it seems like Shelton hits hard but there isn't enough depth in shots most balls landing near the serve line. Depth and opening up the court are key in tennis. Playing so many surfaces in short span of time might have messed up stroke mechanics.

Funny game tennis. Earlier this year Shelton absolutely DEMOLISHED Popyrin at the AO. This week Popyrin defeats Wawrinka for a title and Shelton gets beaten by another emerging player, early in proceedings after a long string of underwhelming results. His agents alone are keeping his profile high which does beg the question, is Shelton hungry enough to fulfil what looked like such a promising talent? Something doesn’t ring true about this, perhaps the kid doesn’t want to play and is being pushed to?

Mostly tough draws. His ranking was so high after AO, he played more big tournaments than he probably shouldn’t have entered. At these big tournaments he got very tough opponents early and lost. Those early losses then affects the rest of the season because he got very little match play. He needs to enter small tournaments with very few top players, get wins and the extra match play with give him the ability to compete in these bigger tournaments.
