I went into this fight as not a huge fan of Benavidez and I predicted Morrell to knock him out, I've gained a lot of respect for Benavidez after this fight. I thought his defense was really good and that knockdown was more of a shove if anything. I still do think Morrell is a quality fighter but he needs to fight one of Yarde, Buatsi, Hutchinson or Smith next.

In the Gvozdyk fight, Benavidez has a torn tendon in his right hand and a cut suffered 3 weeks out from the fight hence why people said he did not carry his power up. Happy birthday !!

Happy Birthday! With regards to this fight, Morrell had been calling out Canelo and Benavidez for a while. He claimed he was being avoided, he got his wish and was dominated, Benavidez connected with over 45% of his power punches. The next logical step is Benavidez the winner of Bivol vs Beterbiev, if for some reason this fight is not doe there is Smith vs Buatsi that could be a good one. For Morrell I think he needs to fight 1-2 fights against decent fighters get his confidence back then someone like Arthur or Yarde would be great fights for him.

benavidez proved he can beat any style, from what i’ve learned as big fan is that this is his first fight against southpaw fighter who’s a highly skilled and talented one his size with longer reach and speed and power to compete, i think moving forward unless it’s southpaw potent fighter i think benavidez gives anyone problems, i actually think he’ll do much better against bivol or beterbiev soles because they’re orthodox fighters.

Not guaranteed at all. Beterbiev has the consistently stronger punches but he’s never fought anyone with Benavidez’s pace, presssure and speed. 50/50 fight for sure.

I cannot believe it but one of Morrells biggest problems is he does not feint, like hardly ever. If he don't add some feinting and trickery to his punches, and learn how to set up traps he will not be successful against acute fighters. At that level you can not land a punch without a feint, (even if you're super fast because timing beats speed) this is why Benavidez saw just about every punch coming. The only punches Morrell landed were counters, because you don't need to feint or add trickery to a counter. You can counter the counter, but it's achieved with a feint first. If you don't feint, it is way too easy for a smart fighter to read you like a book. He knows you don't feint, and so every time you move he will immediately react. Feinting is one of the most crucial ways to offset your opponent and having him thinking. I really can't believe how he never feints.

@@AGuyCalledHenry Honestly most of the lower IQ guys he beat couldn't figure it out, or they got caught early or around the guard or they succumbed to instant pressure. But vs high IQ - someone that knows how to control pace and range and/or take away your ground, then you can't just throw your way in, it must be done with feinting, foot feint too, trickery, anything to confuse your opponent and have him guessing. I hope he works on feinting and finding new ways of closing perimeter to land more punches. And as you said his defense needs some work too as it ain't exactly the Cuban defense we've seen in the past. And his footwork is slick, however, it's one thing having slick footwork, it's another thing owning foot positioning and taking away your opponents ground, which is what Usyk is a MASTER at as he suffocates you.

Benavidez took morrells weapons away after round 3. It was embarrassing watching him eat jabs all night...at will. Body assault...uppercuts...and that repeated, cute glove pull down just added insult and injury
