Benavidez vs Angulo FULL FIGHT: August 15, 2020 - PBC on Showtime

David Benavidez kept his unbeaten record intact after 23 fights with a dominating performance against Alexis Angulo in the main event of an exciting night of boxing live on SHOWTIME Saturday night from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., presented by Premier Boxing Champions.
In the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® tripleheader card, the 23-year-old Benavídez (23-0, 20 KOs) - who lost his WBC world title belt on the scale on Friday - scored a stoppage victory against the former world title challenger Angulo (26-2, 22 KOs), whose corner threw in the towel after the 10th round.
“I rate myself a solid eight,” Benavidez said. “I could have done some stuff better, but overall it was a great performance. I didn’t want to go too fast and leave myself exposed for some big shots. He’s a heavy puncher. But like I said, I like to do the stuff that nobody has ever done. Nobody has ever stopped him and I’m pretty sure nobody is ever going to make him look like that again. I demolished him from round one to round 10.”
A seven-year pro at the age of 23, Benavidez landed 56 percent of his power punches in the fight and averaged 29 of 70 punches thrown per round. Benavidez closed the show by landing a career high 54 punches in round 10.
Colombia’s Angulo, now fighting out of Miami, Fla., entered his second world title opportunity riding a three-fight winning streak, but was unable to come counter anything Benavidez threw at him.
Benavidez said he was disappointed and embarrassed by not making the 168-pound weight limit on Friday. “Everything everyone said about me is true,” Benavidez said. “I should be a professional and come in on weight, but this time I couldn’t do it. It’s my first time not making weight in eight years of being a professional.”
“I really have to talk to my promoter to see what’s next,” Benavidez added. “I’ll fight anybody to get back to the spot I was. You could see by this performance tonight, I could put on a great performance against anybody and people will pay to see that. I’m probably going to go right back into training camp to make sure I don’t miss weight.”

David Benavidez is a naturally talented volume puncher, sadly with “NO” punching power. David merely uses his arms and range to effectively land punches. Something David and his camp will have to fix before he meets Canelo or any high level boxer puncher. In this fight David throwing the amount of punches he threw to victory in this fight should have allowed this fight to end way earlier. David was hitting Angulo at will with his brand of snappy powerless punches that only confused his opponent and makes for a good way of scoring points which gets the win but David has to realize that he lacks punching power. David does not bend his knees or turn over his punches which would give his punches the necessary power to punch less and more effectively saving his hands over time. You can look at David's physical build and see his largely underdeveloped upper body and shoulders. He does a great job of fighting tall which may give him a false sense of security no doubt feeling his opponent cannot get to his chin. Angulo though he could not match David’s punching speed walked through David’s punches for a senseless ten rounds and quitting out of frustration not because David’s punches hurt him. David has to know that Canelo would exploit his body and with “NO”real punching power just snappy fast hands, Canelo like Angulo will walk through David’s volume powerless punches and knock David out. Like I said David is a natural boxing talent that is still largely physically underdeveloped as it pertains to his physical upper body. David needs to lose the spare tire fat around his waist and build up his arms and shoulders to be a more affective puncher. Instead of working on these areas mentioned. David makes the waist band around his boxing shorts wider instead of losing the fat around his waist. This is working now but he will be exposed soon and like I said a high level boxer puncher will exploit these very obvious flaws is in David’s boxing style. 🗣I’m a fan offering constructive criticism to David hoping he begins to take his physical boxing preparation more serious. 🙌🏾🏆💪🏾💯🥊

Benavidez is slow on his feet, leaky defense, sloppy shots, chin suspuct, can he take a big shot by canelo to the chin or body? no experience, vulnerable to feints. All of this canelo has or has been tested, Benavidez hasn’t. Benavidez is so reactive to angulos feints. I could already see canelo exploiting him with feints & bodyshots, canelo will ko or win by late stoppage, David can’t keep his hands up when he fires shots, canelo will counter him worse than what he did to smith

Benavidez is too slow. This guy was a decade older and didn't have the stamina. David has a great jab and he uses it well, but he ain't the only one in the division with the a good jab or long reach. David jabs then goes to the body but every punch other than the jab is a bit wide and comes too slow. If he can work on better angles and better accuracy then he would be top level, at least ready to fight at the top level.
