Jose Benavidez Jr vs Emanuel Torres FULL FIGHT: November 13, 2021 | PBC on Showtime

(Nov.13, 2021) Jose Benavídez Jr. (27-1-1, 18 KOs), David’s older brother by five years, returned after a 37-month layoff to fight Emanuel Torres (17-3-1, 5 KOs) to a majority draw. In a fight that could have gone either way, the judges scored the contest 96-94 for Benavídez and 95-95 twice.
“I don’t know how I got a draw,” a disappointed Benavídez said over loud boos from a hometown crowd that so badly wanted to see Benavidez earn the win. “We can run it back. I beat him. I thought I beat him. He kept running. He didn’t want to stay in the pocket. I can’t do anything about the judges’ decisions. I felt good. He just kept holding. I beat him every round. What can I do?”
In Benavídez’s first action since dropping a 147-pound title showdown to Terence Crawford in October 2018, it was a battle of his power and body work versus Torres’ activity and accuracy. Benavídez spent a majority of the fight attempting to walk down Torres. He landed 64 body punches throughout the 10 rounds, but was susceptible to Torres’ counter-punching and accuracy to the head. Torres was the much busier fighter, throwing 612 punches to Benavídez’s 375. However, the final total landed punches were close with Torres landing 135 and Benavídez landing 122.
The 10th and final round was imperative to the fight’s outcome. Entering the round, Torres trailed on all three judges’ scorecards. He out-landed Benavídez 13-4 on 23 more punches thrown, winning the round on all three scorecards to turn the fight from a unanimous decision loss to a majority draw.
“You can hear from the crowd. I felt I won the fight,” said Argentina’s Torres. “As a visitor, I came here to his backyard and they still gave it a draw. Imagine if this would have been in Buenos Aires. I definitely want the rematch. Let’s see what my management team says but I definitely want it.”

Sorry I'm late to the comments ... But MAAAAN you are right. I was literally thinking by mid round one that Benavidez also does this lil wind-up with his midsection to load up, completely gives the opponent hints when the shots are coming. It's super similar to how a baseball pitcher "tips their pitches", batters pickup on body motions breaking the rhythm which signifies the pitch type, or lunch type in this instance. Absolute kudos to you for pointing out the lack of a jab that also lets opponents SEE the side shots coming. I also do think JBs leg being so messed up that causes him to move his mid section to wind up the shots. He doesn't step into much. It's not an excuse. He still has to realize he is giving away any type of feints

Torres another unsung hero in the game with a so called "spotty" record. Losses are wins if you learn. He beat Benavidez here clear as day..and very next fight Dropped Hannah sheeraz the golden kid like a Burlap sack. God I love this sport and especially the underdogs

Benevidez style is just walk down and intimidate be the aggressor and hope to eventually get the money punch in. BUT if you're not throwing and not landing and no jabs, you can be the aggressor and STILL lose by having no points. The lean back defense looks terrible: off balance all the time--with hands down open to getting hit with combination followup punches--with feet not set for counterattack. Honestly, I don't understand why his coach allows this style. It sucks. Attitude alone is not enough. Torres was slipping and countering well, cool in the pocket, with great upper body movement defense when cornered.

Benavidez's mobility has been compromised ever since he got shot in the leg and it is still very noticeable. Without mobility, a boxer is basically a sitting duck and can't even get off offensively. He's basically done unless there is some surgery out there that can restore the leg.
