Reminds me well of island camping in my 22' Dory with my Lady in the 1980s. It could carry a ton of supplies, and we would go out (one Summer, 13 weekends in a row!)to the near islands, and beach out. She found a place with a field on bluffs, and a clear stream nearby. We ate like royalty every night, had a great Dome tent, and it was Heaven. I proposed, but she fled later to live the "commune" life style. But what fun to be so pampered in our sites, and we packed in harmony, never wanting for anything. Oh we got caught in rain and such, but that was part of it. And sailing home was always bittersweet. Oh to return. Wish you could try that as well. Peace. =Maine=

Hey Ben, I hope you will see/reply to this (other peoples advice is more then welcome)... so as an artist myself, graphic designer, iv been looking to get into photography with a nice camera for photos/video. Currently my budget is anything up to $800 USD, I was wondering what you suggestions would be for HQ cameras to get (I go hiking/ adventuring a lot, so durable is a plus). Thanks a bunch!

***** If you actually want to _learn_ photography, my recommendation would be to get an entry-level DSLR and a nice prime lens (a prime lens has a fixed focal lenght, meaning no zoom) like a 35mm f/1.8. You could easily get that for less than $800, and then spend the rest on other useful stuff like memory cards, a camera bag, etc. As far as brands go, I've only owned Nikon DSLRs and lenses so that's all I can speak for, but I'm sure Canon's stuff is equally good. You can find endless debate on this topic on the internet but I wouldn't spend too much time stressing about that, just get a camera and a lens and start taking pictures. ;) When it comes to durability, you need to face the fact that lenses are made of glass and cameras are full of stuff that can (and will, at some point) break. If you take good care of them, they can last for decades, but drop a lens on concrete once and that could easily be the end of its life. That's just the way it goes. BUT, what I would say is much more important than the durability of the camera or the lens is making sure that the images that you capture are safe, and that is something you can take care of very effectively with backups (preferably 3, 1 on an external hard drive at home, 1 in another geographical location, and 1 somewhere online). I hope you find the right camera for you and get to start taking photographs/video. I've done it myself for over 5 years now and it's one of the best things in my life.If you need any other photography-related advice, let me know, I'll do my best to help.
