It totally depends where you go. In Cape Town you're safe in most areas, once you get here you'll see it's really not difficult to stay safe, you just have to be sensible! I can only speak for Cape Town really. Just be sensible once you get here and you'll have an amazing time :)

It really isn't that unsafe, (even in Joburg) you just have to be careful where you go. When you here talk to locals they'll help you stay in the right areas

As someone who grew up in SA and then moved to the UK, I know how people who arent from SA have no idea what to keep an eye out for because the UK is vastly safer than SA. Its not about wether or not SA is safe, its about how ignorant foreigners are to certain dangers because theyve never had to consider them.
