Get a battery starters, saves you from getting the “bent finger” problem. And every small airplane builder knows what I’m talking about. I had that problem about 65 years ago, now I have a arthritis knot on that finger that can really hurt when rilled up. Great vlog, thanks for sharing.

Because a starter will bend the conrod.

Had a small Mills several years ago. The same starting problem, flicking the propeller round and round. However, once it caught on, it ran well with plenty of power. Never installed. A friend making a small boat asked for it

Not so wise with a diesel to use a starter. Bent conrods can be the result. Some diesels are easy starters. Others just require getting to know the compression and carb settings.

Use Ether Kerosin Castor oil fuel mixture, castor oil is lubricant. Adjust compression and it will start and run till fuel tank is empty.

That's a nice little engine, play with it a bit, and you'll find a nice piece to put it in and fly. Thanks.

Very nice engine. I'm guessing that diesels can swing big props for their size. Has a nicer sound than the glow engines around the same size too. You gonna put that puppy in a FF airplane?
@tomnallen26 жыл бұрын
hi vw - yes, with more torque, diesels can swing larger props at a given displacement. This was the redhead's first run in decades and I had it running rich (you can see unburned fuel in the exhaust). This resulted in low rpm and the satisfying sound. Better to lean it out and run at lower compression to get lower rpm. I need to replace the contra-piston o-ring before running it again....and yes, I'd sure like to have this in a FF scale model; a biplane at 40in+ span I figure.

This was designed as a diesel! It isn’t converted. The contra piston isn’t Teflon on this engine, it’s made of real metal and has a rubber gasket!

did you try a Buna-N ring, or something like that? I've heard they're longer lasting, but have not tried one. I've moved on from the McCoy and am now running an OK Cub .075 diesel which also has an O Ring. We'll see how long it lasts. I'm in the process of building a 53in span Megow Cub right out of an ancient kit for it. Should be fun.

My 12 year old son Junior was using some of this Duco Cement to put together a model airplane when he passed smooth out at the kitchen table. His head hit the table so hard it left a knot big enough to tie a horse to. Had to run him up to the emergency room they kept him up in the hospital for 3 days. There is something in that damn glue that made him pass out. Does anybody know who to contact with this company? Because i'm out about 900 dollars to the hospital, not to mention the kitchen table that got destroyed when Junior hit his head on it. It really pisses me off that they could sell a glue that could be that toxic, and make a kid pass out. I'm wanting some money out of this deal. Who should I talk to about it?
@duderoony5 жыл бұрын
ALL glues use some form of solvent and I think you’ll find that the instructions on the label will have stated “to be used in a well ventilated area”..... To be honest at 12 I would have been supervising him. Just saying.....
