BenchDogs now have this 👍. I’ve just bought the new Mk2 fence which comes with the small extension.

Interesting set up. I missed out on the MK 2 fence but I've also got my fence setup differently. I layed the fence down so the longer side is on the work bench and then put my track over top of it. That way by offsetting the fence from the cut face by the same distance as the width of the fence stops I could use the back end of the fence stops as my measuring points. So when I need a 600 piece i just move the stop to 600 and make the cut.

Tony I like that thought. I will give it a try. Thanks Phil

Excellent demo of how quick and accurate the plunge saw actually is! Of course, you are demonstrating how to avoid movement of narrow stock, but I couldn't help wonder if the bench dog fence is a rather expensive minor player in the whole setup. Nevertheless, thanks for sharing!

You are right, the main advantage with the fence is repeatability and speed of set up.

While this works, a simpler system is to have the fence support the workpiece right up to the cut- i.e. under the track. A hardwood small end cap at the end also supports against end tear-out (trimmed by the saw on the first cut). The fence scale can be calibrated to this, so giving actual length every time. The fence needs to be lower under the track, of course; Mine is 8mm so usable 9mm workpiece up. Thinner stock- use a sacrificial packer. Cordless track-saws? You need to connect the dust collector anyway, so why not run the power with it... Plugging into the saw is as fast as attaching a battery.

Hi Mike, Benchdogs now do a support to go under the rail, but totally agree with you about having a hard wood piece. I do a lot of track saw work outside on site and don’t use dust extraction so a battery saw saves a mess of cables. Keep up the good work on your KZbin channel I do enjoy it. Philip.

hello there, can you tell me do you find your track dead straight? mine is slightly out by 0.2 mm - it seems to the out on the back were it meets and butts up against the dogs. ps you found your plunge saw very good? , I use a track saw with the adaptor
@PhilipHollowaychannel4 жыл бұрын
Yes my tracks are straight. You could always wrap some masking tape around a dog to make up the 0.2 mm. yes I love the track saw and it’s fantastic not having to use extension leads.

Nice set up, but there's no way that's faster than using a table saw.
@PhilipHollowaychannel3 жыл бұрын
This very true, but I don’t have room in my small workshop to have the table saw setup permanently and have a large assembly table and for me the large assembly table is more useful. Thanks for liking my setup

After 40 plus years of building cabinets in a well equipped 1600 sq. ft. shop, I have adopted the tracksaw/MFT style system. Still have and use my shop, but use the adopted system on site. Handling material is much less strenuous, accuracy is dead on, and mobility is easy. There is maybe 20-25% loss in time efficiency but the other factors often outweigh the time. The single most amazing factor however is that I can handle every operation in a 10x10 ft. area.

the short!

The length is 330mm. I bought the set of three of these but since my video they now sell one section as well here’s the link benchdogs.co.uk/collections/fence-systems/products/right-hand-side-support-fence
