MLB: We don’t condone fighting and fine our players for it Also MLB: FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!...
@rubatowolf11705 жыл бұрын
This hypocrisy is a large part of what's hurting the game. The sports in which the athletes show more personality and passion are getting more attention. Baseball needs players to be able to celebrate home runs, strikeouts, or what have you, let alone just watch the damn ball if they want to, whenever they want and no matter what the score is. If they allow it and are vocal about what they want, it can put a damper on these stupid slap fights.

Medi Ocre Bryan Halstead I think a hitter can stand there and admire his home run and that’s fine. And when a pitcher puts a pitch in the guys hip next time up he should stfu and go to first. Like it or not that’s the code of baseball.

Growing up watching Junior play in Seattle, he stared down just about every home run I ever saw him hit, and his bat flip was emulated by every single Little Leaguer in Seattle who played in the 90’s. I don’t recall any pitchers having a problem with him, but perhaps it’s something that is only tolerated if the pitchers respect you. I don’t know. But the sensitivity amongst ballplayers these days is laughable.

The game has changed dramatically over the years. Back in the 60s and 70s players were routinely mowed down with bean balls. Before that was getting spiked. My grandfather was a catcher back around 1910 or thereabouts and had scars all over his legs and actually lost a nut playing catcher..

Boy, Dietrich really likes to admire his homeruns, doesn't he? By the way, I like how both Dietrich and Archer, who were the reason the whole fracas started, were basically MIA in the fight/scrum. That was mainly between Puig and Cervelli, then a bunch of their teammates and coaches.

@@brianmckibben2400 that's the whole point of the manager coming out of the dugout. This was a big deal when Cleveland played Minnesota when Gardenhire was manager at Minnesota. Dietrich has that Griffey jr swing. Fluid and lotta power. No need to get so upset about the swagg though. MLB needs more of this. Young fans want to see lotts of swagger and showmanship today. It's good for the brand and brings in more fans that normally would not watch a baseball game before. I mean look at all that went on when Bautista smashed that massive bomb against Texas a few years back, the media and the fans loved it. More swagg = more fans, more money, and more fun. The NFL gets it, they finally stop giving flags for celebrations because its what the fans like to see and it brings in more excitement and fun. The old ways of thinking and " unwritten rules " are long gone and should stay gone.

Absolutely ridiculous how pitchers have this much disdain for a hitter admiring a homerun. Yet when the pitcher strikes someone out in a high pressure situation, they're the first ones to celebrate in dramatic fashion. News flash, the sport can do NOTHING but benefit from more emotion in those situations.
