@The Realist Surprisingly solid performer! And this is one of my first AMD Ryzen laptop I have ever owned, coming from a 7-year old Asus laptop I got back in 2013! Works well for video editing in 1080p 60fps recorded from my main phone, although 120Hz is not great for color sensitive work. Brightness wise, it's a non issue. Keyboard typing experience is nice but it takes time for me to get used to but man, it was miles better than my old laptop. Battery life was about average but I haven't fully test the battery life of it yet.

Worked great out of the box but after all updates etc. the fan is almost always on, If the CPU goes over 48 degrees, the fan is on! With this problem comes poor battery life as well. Also, the HP has a very limited bios and connecting my egpu to my second nvme slot simply doesn't work. I try to boot from my SSD but it refuses, only seeing the egpu in the boot menu and tries to boot from it. As soon as I remove the egpu, it recognizes the ssd again. I might just keep it but thinking of selling it to buy the Lenovo, I'm a huge thinkPad fan after all.

What is the GPU inside this AMD? This is totally critical to performance! A well known and big complaint by many is that Legion 5 AMD top out at 1650ti, at least in the UK, a very budget graphics card and if that’s what’s inside this, then arguably it’s bottlenecking the 4800 and could never be considered for “serious gaming”!! I recently saw this model go up on the Lenovo website in the UK and I laughed - looks like a con to me if you are buying it for primarily or solely gaming, because there are no better graphics card options (just one more step up to a 1660ti achieves massive performance gains more than a better CPU would). Intel’s higher core performance is generally considered to be better than Ryzen for gaming, so how would this compare with it? Poor graphics card options with AMD is outrageous, so I got an Intel version with the 1660ti because this combo imho betters the undoubted superior speed of the Ryzen CPU, as a package. I think the Legion 5 does everything else right compare with competitor’s models at the moment. Especially the screen and thermals.

There were news back in July saying that Lenovo is gonna roll out the Legion 5 with a RTX 2060 in late August or something. fast forward almost 2 months later (now, in September), & we still have literally NO NEWS of such a machine being found anywhere.
@olivergrantham19004 жыл бұрын
@@FalconWindblader Yes, I know. I couldn't wait any longer, so managed to negotiate a decent discount on the Intel version as a result. Ownordisown says it might be due to motherboard compatibility issues, but a concern I have (as a consumer rather than a techie, which I'm not!) - whether there could be latent mid to long term issues with AMD laptop motherboards and higher rated graphics cards or having to go lower wattage/thermal issues? All I know is (as always) is that these arguments will likely become redundant when Zen3 architecture (already in development, is that right?) and the new RTX30xx series get adapted (with better cooling tech?) into laptops in the next couple of years or so?

Issues with HDMI & USB-C Display Port output, anyone had those issues? I got the Legion 5P (Ryzen 4800H, RTX 2060) form Currys-PC World here in the UK for £999. The laptop comes with lower RAM and SSD specs (8GB and 256GB respectively), but they are both upgradable and I intent to upgrade to 32GB RAM and a second 1TB NVMe as soon as I have finished testing the laptop and happy with its performance. The first thing I tried to do after finalising Windows installation was to try to connect to two external monitors, very important to me for Soft Dev work. The laptop provides both HDMI and USB-C with Display Port at the back and both, according to the specs, support 4K @60Hz. Unfortunately I got all sort of issues: 1. The USB-C connection didn't detect any external monitors at all, does anyone know if I need to do anything special to "activate" the Display Port of the USB-C interface? I tried using a direct USB-C to USB-C cable with a 1440p HP monitor that has a USB-C in, but no luck. I tried using a small portable "docking station" that has USB-C to HDMI adaptor, but again no luck. With this adaptor I tried different HDMI cables and 3 different monitors, 2 x 1440p and 1 x 4K. All those configurations have worked fine in the past with my older 2018 Dell XPS and with a much newer 2020 Huawei MateBook 14, no issues at all. Anyone had that or a similar problem with the USB-C video out? 2. The HDMI connection worked both when connecting to 1440p and 4K monitors, but with a lot of issues. The 4K monitor was OK for the first couple of minutes then I was starting to get a blank screen (totally black screen) appx. every 10 secs and for about 1 sec each time. Very annoying. Tried different display modes, for example 32bit-60Hz, 59Hz, 50Hz, etc, but I was getting the same issues. The 1440p monitors behaved a bit better, no blank screens, but when I was playing KZbin videos as a test the video would freeze every time I would maximise it to full screen, but the sound playing from the monitor speakers was fine with no interruptions, etc, as if the video was continuing playing behind the frozen screen. Also when I was splitting a Chrome window playing a KZbin video between the laptop screen and the external screen, the half of the video on the laptop screen was playing fine where the external monitor half was frozen. I got some other similar issues, even when I tried enabling/disabling Optimus and used various display modes, etc. Needless to say that after I encountered all these issues I tried several combinations of settings, installed all Windows 10 latest updates, upgraded all NVidia and Lenovo drivers, etc. The issues persisted. I even reset Windows a couple of times to make sure that it was not those updates creating the problem in the first place. But after a reset I would get exactly the same issues. Anyone had any similar issues with the video output of the Legion laptops? Did I just receive a bad instance of this model? I have now returned the laptop and waiting for a replacement to arrive soon and I hope that I won't have the same issues, but any comments on this matter will be appreciated. Thanks ;-)

By all accounts, better graphics cards have been delayed so I wonder if they are ever going to appear. I do feel we are short changed with low spec graphics cards with AMD by Lenovo right now - I had a couple of lengthy conversations with some reps when looking at buying, and I ended up with the Intel version in the end with a negotiated discount with this very argument, though I would have opted for AMD otherwise. A conspiracy theory is about in town are paying off OEMsto purposely do this exist, so I don’t personally subscribe to this view. Though I do think consumers are being conned or at best short changed with value vs performance somewhat at the moment.

Great review. According to Lenovo the Max RAM config that can be installed in the Legion 5 is 16GB...but I wonder if that is in fact a hard limit or if the system will recognize and operate properly with 32GB of RAM...Any chance you could try installing 32GB of RAM to see if the system will in fact recognize it? PLEASE????? 😊
@nonstopbg3 жыл бұрын
It will work with 64 GB without an issue. Just make sure the memory is compatible.

Hello, I hope you reply. Did your Legion 5 has black screen issues while the laptop is still on/working? I'm reading reviews like this and it's so frequent and they're all experiencing the same problem.

I found a laptop Lenovo Laptop Lenovo Gaming 15.6" Legion 5 15ARHO5H, FHD IPS 120Hz, Procesor AMD Ryzen 7 4800H (8M Cache, up to 4.20 GHz), 16GB DDR4, 512GB SSD, GeForce RTX 2060 6GB. it has 120 hz which is good but only has 250 niti? would you be annoying?too low brightness? I understand that it overheats and stuttering, decreasing fps, is it true? or the version with GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB it has 300 nits but only 60 hz, what choice would you take? an advantage that it has 300 nits but too big a disadvantage 60 hz?

I bought a couple of days this laptop, but I can t change the rgb keyboard colour or the moving of the light from right to left for example. The iCue app says there is no device detected and the Lenovo vantage doesn’t have this option, any idea for my problem?

The difference it just miniscule. The intel is better just a little bit. Not that much of a difference. Both rocks but the Amd is cheaper than intel version.
