I have one of these and have used it on everything from skinning deer and hunting to cutting hydraulic hoses on heavy equipment for years, I absolutely love the blade design and the bite on the grip, especially when the handle is wet or covered in animal products. It is a little space consuming in the pocket, I will agree there, but if you need a good, durable knife for back woods, a back up for hunting (I tend to prefer fixed blade for hunting but this works awesome for a folder), for a bugout bag or emergency bag, or are in the military and need a something that will last for your webbing, this is a perfect go-to knife.

I don't understand all the complaints about the handle. I carry this daily and I don't have a problem with it at all. I recommend this knife all day long. There isn't a whole lot of can't do and it carries better than most knives half it's size. Great video man!

This is the absolute ultimate personal knife IMO. Once I found this about 4 years ago, I stopped even caring about looking at most other knives to be honest. I have 2 variants, the exact one from this video plus the all black model. And, both of mine have the combination serrated blade, which I prefer. When I look for personal defense items, I ask myself, would I want to encounter X, be on the receiving end myself? This knife puts a very solid NO to that question. I've had to pull it out twice in public (which I hate and don't ever look forward to or encourage), and both times the bully threatening to do me harm literally turned tail and ran. And the 2nd encounter was 3 against 1. These 2 knives are my pride and joy and will never drop from my collection.

I miss my Contego. I reprofiled mine and put a narrower bevel than the factory with a Lansky. M4 isn't that hard to sharpen with diamond stones, has good toughness, and OUTSTANDING edge retention. It's not a stainless, so you do have to take care of it as far as rust goes.

I really don't understand how so many people can love the benchmade 940 with its slick as owl s#!t metal handles yet ...when the same company makes a superior knife that has better blade steel ..stronger blade design...and a handle that you (wont ) drop out of your hands if it becomes wet from (whatever)...too many people buy knives to stare at which not (fact) but my opinion is a waste of money...i get so so tired of hearing people say the benchmade contego is designed to be used with gloves B.S. I say...peoole not using one of the most incredible knives ever made by benchmade because it hurts most people's lil fingers?...a (cavity search) was designed for the use with gloves...not the contego.

Own this knife and have for over a 2 years +/-, the edges, jimping and transitions on the handles are great for gloved hands - BUT I MODDED IT. I Dremelled over all the abrasive edges to make them smoother by probably %60-%70, now it feels really great in my bare hand. I have never checked out the after market scales, just modded the stock ones. The M4 steel is bomber and hard to sharpen, takes some time on my worksharp, I also baked off the edge angle. I really like it and carry it frequently especially in the cooler months when I have on pants (live in GA) great camping knife if you like a folder vs fixed blade. keep up the reviews sir

the g10 part isn't rough at all, the flat surfaces are about what you get on a cold steel recon 1, the milled parts are nicely chamfered. i don't wear gloves and i find this knife to be pretty comfortable.

Chris. They also make a fixed blade contego. Smoother handle but they changed the steel to S30V. Knivesshipfree 182

Just bought this one today. He's right, the scales are rough. But, I view that favorably as increased grip/retention/control. This will be my EDC, as I'm sure that grade of steel should withstand any cutting task thrown at it. However, with a HRC rating of 62-64, I'm leery of possible toughness issues.

@terranceakerson34807 жыл бұрын
Use the knife for a while, the handles will soften. The factory edge is ok but a quick hone and it will be razor sharp then all you have to do is keep it honed. I prefer the 808 loco, the slight curvature in the handle is awesome, the contego is a close second for my larger folders.

I have one that I have used. Wish mine hade a better detent, the sides are sharp without gloves, and there is one jimp that bothers me. The m4 takes and holds a great edge making it great for hard use but oil the edge because it will rust off. If you can work in a 4 to 5 inch fix blade into your system, I mostly can't, go with that. Use diamond stones and sharpening is easy.

Just my 2 cents, this knife is not an EDC knife in my opinion. It's a tool for a couple different specific purposes. I'd say if you're using this knife outdoors while camping or hiking you'll most likely have access to gloves and you'll be wearing them when working with wood/dirt anyway so the heavy jimping will help out there. For use in a tactical situation, you won't have gloves on but your grip might not be great at the time of excitement. All the blood will rush toward your vitals and away from your extremities and you'll need that extra grip to keep control of the only weapon you have access to. In that unfortunate situation, you'd have so much adrenaline pumping through your body, the aggressive jimping wouldn't be a factor.

Ha, another Ohio boy here. Can't say I've been enjoying the weather much lately myself. At any rate, I have the Knifeworks exclusive of the Contego, and TBH, it has some of the same issues. It's large, bulky, and has some real hotspots on it. Kinda makes for a hard knife to carry and rely on for your average every day use. IMO, the Rift is a better choice size wise. Unfortunately, it's biggest issue (IMO) is that it's hampered by the sub par 154CM steel...unless you have the orange and black version (S30v steel there). Still though, I do carry my Contego from time to time, but I have better choices in my collection for every day use.

ora1000 I have two of them the clip and the tanto. The new lock assembly is too stiff. It requires too much force to open. The tanto flips open better because it's heavier but the clip point doesnt. I miss the smoothness of the older models. The voyagers are the same. I cut the tip off my finger because the detent snapped it closed when my thumb slipped off the thumbstud, which itself is skin rippingly sharp. Super sharp thumbstud on my 6 inch ti lite, but that bad boy is smooth as silk and locks open like double barrel shotgun. What it means is that the cold steel stays home and the Microtech and Spyderco come with
