I actually bought a Benchmade Osborne 940 back in the year 2000 when it was first released(first production run with 154cm blade). I still have it, but back in 2017 I had Benchmade replace its blade with a new one(S30V) because the original blade had basically all of its life sharpened out of it. Benchmade also replaced its Omega springs with new ones. I love my 940 because it's super fidgety, with a strong blade that has a very robust tip👍 I actually met Warren Osborne back in 2009 at NYCKS(New York Custom Knife Show) that's held in NJ. He was super nice and we talked with each other for about ten minutes. I don't understand all of the Benchmade Osborne 940 hate🤔

I don’t think I hate the knife! The proof is in the fact that I bought 3 full size and 4 mini versions, but I do hate the hype and plain conjecture surrounding it. I also have several OTHER than 940 Osborne/Benchmade collaborations that are awesome. Hopefully you enjoyed this roast and will visit my channel in the future.

It seems really unlikely that anyone would spay cattle or maintain hooves with this knife. It does look like it would be well-suited for cutting some twine, harvesting a cucumber, or peeling an apple...like any other good folder. I was able to find a little information on Warren Osborne. From what I read, he was a very well-respected guy. I would like to learn more about him.

Benchmade prices are ridiculous for what it is. Most people talking up these knives as must have edcs nowadays are larping

Amazing video 😂 I do still like the 940 Osborne but it’s not worth the price. Maybe half of the price absolutely. And I mean the standard green aluminum version. Blade HQ and Al those guys sure are full of nonsense 😂😂 they are just great salesman with no shame.

@@CuttingBoardRx I agree with you. But here’s the thing I want the warranty and parts support I don’t plan to sell it. So down the road when something brakes on it and I can’t fix it. I want to be able to get parts for it in 10-15 years.

@@CuttingBoardRx if you don’t mind me, asking then what do you own so many benchmade’s if their overhyped• and do you feel like you fell into the overhyping in some way and or do you feel like you’ve been tricked with the quality of the product so far •I’ll totally understand if you just like the designs of the knives if that’s why you purchase them•but if it’s a overhyped product I don’t understand why you be willing to pay that price then ✌🏾

I want 1st crossbar lock knife, which lead me to the 940 & 535 . But the cost of them.Nope. If I get a 940 it’ll be a clone of the “limited edition “titanium one. Found one with good steel, tested hardness & all that. $40-$50 range. I can peel apples out on the range with it fine. & if I lose it on the range it will be ok.

You said you were going to roast the 940 but what I heard was a roast of Benchmade marketing and asking price. I'm not sure what your point was in asking if anyone has ever seen Warren Osborne. Are you suggesting that they made him up? I can assure you they didn't. I have seen a picture of him. It was on a channel called nutnfancy. I believe it was in a review of a knife with a similar blade to the 940, the Contigo perhaps.

@@davidrushing2507 I think the knife itself is not all that great: mediocre ergonomics, barely useful blade and preposterous idea that a real rancher would even touch it. Warren was so embarrassed by what Benchmade did with his fixed blade design, he refused further collaboration and never spoke of it publicly. The other BM Osborne knives I own are much more robust or functional or both. I own a dozen 940s including the three MagnaCut models that have a ridiculously bad heat treat (this video is in the making) so thanks for watching and subscribing!

Know you have a lot of Benchmades so bravo for this very reasonable debunking of the story I've heard so many times on U tub. Over the past 5 years I have heard countless times that every knife enthusiast has to have a Bugout & a 940. I've never had either & consider the prices too much on these. I did buy some Benchmades back in the 90s but a house fire led tomassive theft them, stoll have one & most of myCold Steel knives from that time. I wont be buying Benchmade until they improve on grinds QC or at least drop some prices, I know, unlikely.

I think it was mainly used to castrate goats, sheep, etc., if anything. In reality, a knife with that kind of a point, would actually be a bit "destructive" with uncomplicated animals...especially, with horses and cows....and would lead to more possible unwanted damages to the animals, and/or humans in that work environment. Just my thoughts, as I have only had experience with 800 head of dairy cows and a few breeding bulls, before making the military and Law Enforcement my choice of careers. Keep up the great work !!!

It was interesting to read your comment because I wondered what someone with lots of experience thought about it. I have never spayed a cow or trimmed a hoof, but I have worked with animals a lot and it seemed unlikely to me that this knife would reasonably be used for those purposes.

@@mel87123, I spread it out (no pun intended) to avoid the algorithms. For some reason, they flag it when put together. Apart, they are 2 separate words....I guess. It makes for a really awkward arrest or detention. It does, however, make them do a double-take, and gives us an extra second to make them think.
