The plastic piece is to attatch the sheath to molle gear like belts, plate carriers and vests.

I've got the version on top. I've carried it over a year now. I love it. I can deploy it and stowe it one handed with heavy leather work gloves on. You can't drop it closed but a knee or hip works just fine.

As for sheath some states like NC require a sheath to carry if you carry a auto in a pocket it can be looked at as concealed carry of a dangerous weapon but a knife in a sheath is considered open carry and is legal

Maybe to late but looking to buy a good quality knife so I have a question why would you want a serrated blade and what would it be used for thanks in advance

Never too late to ask. Depending on type of cutting serrated might be better for like rope cutting for instance.
