With 56hrc it is cheese soft, after every cut you can strop it. Holds an razor edge for 5seconds. Thanks to benchmade for the 56hrc.!

Again perfect vid I'm telling ya I really enjoy your vids. I've been keeping up on the hrc and edge retention testing. But your explanation was exactly what everyone needs to know. Great job still top of the charts!

Thanks for the nod. Interesting theory on the carry over use of the 3v. Maybe it goes all the way back to the Pukko? Check out Super Steel Steve’s Bailout video. The Bailout did not hold up to the bending like BBB’s knife did. And the handle...🤭.

Alchemy_1 ya the boost does have thicker blade stock and much more stout handle. I won’t be surprised if the next run gets a better heat treat.

EDC Gear & Gun Reviews There’s a difference, but not that big of a difference. .2” of difference. Definitely a difference, but not a Bugout/Adamas type difference. Of course, how much actual difference would have to be measured in some sort of direct comparison, but... It’d be nice to see all the manufacturers select more appropriate steels for the HT they’re able to do in mass or get the steels they want to use up to a higher HRC. Benchmade, specifically, hasn’t helped themselves in that regard. They said the knife is supposed to be run at this HRC. How can you come back and then say, now we are running it at 60 and that’s the right range? With no explanation, then or in-between, that’s going to seem pretty interesting, to say the least. 😄 Overall, the hope of our project is to have a sample of objective data, grow in our steel knowledge as a community, have consumers make educated purchases, and hopefully a situation will eventually develop where manufacturers aren’t putting out steels in this condition. That’s the hope. If nothing else, it is good to be able to see trends ourselves and how those trends display themselves in use, sharpening, and to other similar knives.

Alchemy_1 this project is one of the best things to happen to the knife community. It’s so odd to me they screwed up so bad in 3v, when there m4 is heat treated so well?

EDC Gear & Gun Reviews It is baffling and then not to want to get out in front of this. Unfortunately, I think that is the byproduct of a company that knows it has lots of blind loyalty and support so they respond according to the type of favor they believe they have with us. It’s kind of sad, but Case is a prime example of what happens when a company is loved that way and they go unchecked.

7:13 "I think this is a Crucible Steel" speaking of CPM 3V. Folks using acronyms (an abbreviation formed from the initial letters of other words and pronounced as a word) without any idea what they are saying. HELLO, the "C" in CPM specifically stands for Crucible Industries (since 1970).

3V steel at 56hrc on a linerless folder knife. Yeah, makes total sense, well done Benchmade, ffs. The only rationale for picking something though like 3v and doing it a 56hrc is giving you a knife you can abuse like a pry bar and super abuse without chipping, which don't make sense anyway because it's a folder and without any steel liner. You'll bend those body screws and crack the scales way before the blade gives a shit, but at the same time it'll hold an edge like a tuna can because of the HT.

i can baton with a 440a and it's also not gonna chip and roll and easy to sharpen in a field... Do really Benchmade want some ganzo to do them in a cut test...

Great video, looks like a fine blade however I can not support Benchmade and I'm sure you know why!
