What are your thoughts on the knife, two years after purchase?
@elipastura44194 жыл бұрын
@@mattiethesurfer if you're replying to me, I'm very impressed with it. I've put it through hell and it can handle anything I throw at it. The spine is a great touch, great for ferro rod use and batoning. The grind is ideal for what the knife was designed for and I just can't get enough of it. Others have complained about the sheath but I really don't mind it and I personally love the look and feel of it.

After drooling over this knife and fondling them in stores since I first saw one a few years ago, I finally bought one last week at my local BM dealer store! They were having a store wide 20% off sale and it included their outdoor gear, so I jumped at the chance to own it for $152. I've been doing a remodel for a friend and he is paying me very well, so I couldn't pass it up. I'm going out to the local lake for a few days this week and will put it Edge-2-Edge with my Spyderco Bushcraft UK.

After having the BM-162 over the summer going Edge-2-Edge with my Spyderco Bushcraft-UK, I decided that it's a great knife but the ergonomics just weren't as comfortable as my Bc-UK. So after 9 months of heavy use I traded it in one of my facebook knife groups for a Spyderco "Q" and some other gear. It's great for all given tasks, but probably suitable for someone with larger hands (I wear medium sized gloves)! I happened across this video again and decided to let you know.

Great review of a great knife. It has, by far, the most comfortable of all my knives. That shape with the angles feels like they made it specifically for me. Been using it regularly for a couple of years and have sharpened it only a few times, usually just needs a stropping to bring it back.

Man I love mine.. I catch myself just holding and admiring it all the time.. I do think it's more of a survival blade than a bushcraft, but as you said, it'a a jack of all trades. I've butchered pigs and deer with it and then a mess of squirrels that evening.. when I washed it off, IT STILL popped the hair off my arm... It's actually a perfect knife ..the handle feels weird at first, then when you use it awhile for different things, it all makes sense. It's a crying shame that Benchmade discontinued it..... I woulf absolutely buy another one when I ran across it.. id like a tan version.. Shane seibert, the designer , makes a custom version too. But it's all the way expensive

Lansky deluxe guided diamond sharpener.. make or get a strop and compound. Just get the sharpener. You'll never regret it. It's about 80 bucks.. just do yourself a favor and get it.. when you install the rods on the hones, make sure the rod is square with the face of the hone.. do this by putting the rod on the hone, the placing the one on a flat surface, eyeball the rod and assure the gap is even.. There are videos on how to use it.. the biggest thing is to make sure the rod is square so it guides the hone straight.. its hard to explain with words bur its easy to do that.. once you do, the sharpener does the work.. make sure you get the diamond kit.. it last longer and the hones stay flat. Stones wear . Make sure you get the strop and compound too.. this saves your knife from having to be sharpened all the time.. the quality steel used in this knife means you will rarely have to sharpen it because you can keep it hair popping sharp for a long time with just the strop... The strop is the key to getting that scary demonically sharp edge.... The lansky sets the edge, gets it sharp, and that strop refines and polishes that edge and it will be SCREAMING sharp

I enjoyed the report. I too have had this knife for a little more than a year, great knife, great handle design, awesome steel. I had to get a double grit diamond stone to re-profile the secondary edge(too steep for my whittling taste), once that was done, OMG!! What a fantastic blade. The only downfall for me was the sheath. Simply too soft/supple, I don't like the twisting/wobbling while it's on my side. It did surprise me though on the abuse it can take, I have scratches all over the sheath for rough carry and it still holds the knife fine.
@HighCarbonSteelLove7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! The sheath is a bit funny, however, it has actually grown on me over time. It definitely takes some good abuse and as long as I am mindful, dropping the knife back in isn't really a problem. You are right, it is some soft leather, though. -Dave

Dave, thank you for another video. That is a beautiful knife for sure. Have you ever considered reviews of old school camping gear? Things like Coleman white gas stoves and lanterns or Buck knives like the 110 or 119. You may already own some of the gear and if not I bet you could barrow most of the items. Sometimes I like to use the older stuff I remember from my youth. Back then things were made to last and if they stopped running you bought the parts and fixed them vice the disposable philosophy we have now. Just a thought. Sometimes older gear can be better gear. Take care.

Very cool! My old man bought all his coleman gear in 1974 he takes impeccable care of his stuff, keeps it in original boxes ect. His white gas stove and lantern still stored in original box still looks and works like a champ!!! I remember using them from as long as I can remember as they we bought far before I was even born,but I kid you not they look darn near brand new and work the same yet today! I still use one of the sleeping bags from 74 to this day every year deer and turkey hunting. They certainly have seen better days and the last one left that I'm using is in rough shape but I just can't get myself to get something else. Far too much sentiment!

@@HighCarbonSteelLove I sure did. I've only had it for a little under a month, but I'm absolutely loving it. I can't even really put my finger on why! It just seems to work well for me. I was a little unsure about the handle, the first outing, but I've grown to appreciate it. It works great in any grip. This one has quickly moved to the top of the heap for me! It really is a fantastic design! Take care, and be safe!

Good morning David, hope you are having a good day. I really enjoyed watching your knife review, it was very good. I think the knife is very well made and built to last. My only concern is that i find double bevel hard to sharpen and would like this knife in a Scandinavian grind. I like your bow drill and feather sticks are excellent. Kind regards David

I hope you are having a good day, as well, David! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment! A scandi grind is my favorite, however, this secondary bevel is very easy to touch up and the edge retention is excellent! Nice to hear from you, my friend! -Dave

It's 2020 and I was looking at a Jacklore custom. Or a bark river bravo 1. But I'm going tomorrow to REI and picking up the 162. I love my benchmade pocket knives so I'll see how this is against my other fixed blade's

This is a fair review, especially coming from from someone with "High Carbon" in their name (usually Corbin lovers are extremely hard when it comes to this stuff). Well done, thanks. Lol 😆😂

If you'd like to avoid using the key ring entirely, all you need to do is weave the maxpedition strap through the d-ring and then attach the clip end directly to a belt loop on your pants. It even works if you're not wearing a belt because you're not attaching anything to a belt.
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
The key ring was to keep the dangler a bit more balanced but you are right, I could probably just lose the key ring. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! -Dave

I've had and worked the knife a couple of years. Worked it hard and love it. Looking for some leather to make a better sheath. It comes out of the stock leather sheath much too easy!
@HighCarbonSteelLove6 жыл бұрын
Thats great to hear richard! I've always worked mine hard and love it, as well! Definitely lacking in the sheath category but it does the trick for me. I really like the leather but the design is a bit off for this knife. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! -Dave

Great review Dave, and thanks! To give credit where it is due, I think it is YOUR ability to make feather sticks...the knife is just a tool!

I have really wanted to give 1 of these a try for years. But for the price I have so many others I just cant justify the purchase.
