Help! I can't stop watching Griptilian videos. Wait...I like watching Griptilian videos. Soon I will watch Griptilian videos with my own Griptilian

Crocket, thanks to you I bought another knife! Lol! I had to change my folder (böker ak74 auto) after an accidental opening that got my finger badly cut. I was hesitating between various kershaw/spyderco/benchmade options and finally went to the 550hg. I couldn't be happier with this choice. Once again, your videos and comments bring us precious information, thanks indeed!

You have way to much fun, trying out different items. The pools of water looked refreshing to me. Liked the one with the cliff. It is a nice blade too. Glad you check things out for us. I'm still a Gerber person...

Today I used my Grip (D2) to cut and remove the carpet in my bedroom. The edge held up quite well and didn't take much too resharpen it. The black coating was perfect and now shows some wear,carpet turned out to be rough on it. The handle was very comfortable,no hot spots etc. For a new edge retention test,skip the cardboard and cut a bunch or carpet lol

That was great. Thanks for doing that video. I have a Griptilian also and I love it. Great knife.

Thanks for the feedback. I need to do a vid of a step by step break down of the axis lock. It was a little tricky putting back together, but once I figured it out wasn't too bad.

The first field test video of this knife is what prompted me to get on. Still my favorite folder. Going to get another one full edge no serrations or another style bench made in the future. To all those who hate on it because it doesn't have g10 scales, trust me the plastics better at least for this type of knife.

That is pretty damn impressive. Good job! I'm hoping for a fliptilian soon.

@ Jeremy, from what I understand it is an older model with oval deployment hole(I like it though most didn't) and modified wharncliff blade with 440c on the blade, which so far seems to perform well.
@nealkinevil9 жыл бұрын
That's awesome Cr0cket20. I remember when you first reviewed this knife. I went out and got one right after watching and it's still my favorite knife. It gets a ton of use on the, west coast of B.C. in the Clayoquot rainforest, cutting everything from rope to wild mushrooms to small game and hotdog sticks. Still just like new inside and out. I'm sure it will last till the end.

Nice vid. The griptilian to me just seems to be a great workhorse of a knife. The grip always seems to find its way into my pocket when work needs to be done. It's not an knife that you would worry about using. I have more expensive knives but somehow this knife finds more pocket time than any of them.
@mrcraig58729 жыл бұрын
I've heard these don't come sharp out of the box. Can anyone testify to that or is that just some bs?

Great testimony to what a high quality knife should be able to put up with. I thought it was great that you completely disassembled it for everyone's inspection. Bonus points on re-buffing those phosphor bronze bushings. Must be slicker than lawyer-snot now.
@Cr0cket209 жыл бұрын
And that is pretty slick.

Impressive. I bought one years ago with 154cm steel, which did not hold up well (wore the blade down out too quickly IMO). Sent it back to Benchmade and requested a blade only swap to S30V, which they did for a nominal fee. Their S30V is awesome. It has great edge retention and is still a hard use knife in my collection.
@Cr0cket209 жыл бұрын
Nice. I didn't know they would swap out the blade steel like that.

Just picked up 2 grip's, my first try into benchmade folders as most my nicer folders are spyderco. I am impressed thus far myself with these 2. One is 154cm, other is 440c(flat ground modified wharncliff blade) like lots.
@Cr0cket208 жыл бұрын
+Marc I I happen to have the grip on me today. Such a great knife.
@Player_Review8 жыл бұрын
+Marc I I don't think they have a 440c option, though I could be wrong. They do offer a N680, which is a little better but similar enough. Either way, these are great and there are tons of variations so I'd not be too surprised if they did a 440c option at some point.

would you recommend going with the coated version for more rust resistance?
@Cr0cket209 жыл бұрын
aznelite325 Certainly won't hurt. If you're in a high humidity environment I would consider it heavily. That said I haven't had many problems with uncoated. But I do live in a dry environment...until I end up in a mountain river or lake ; )

I usually carry a small and longer fixed blade in the woods...but it's great to see what my Grip could handle if need be. I've got a BM 530 that looks like it went thru Iraq...I've put it thru a ton. Heck, I would have carried it without reservation when I was in an Infantry platoon. (We carried fixed blades only.) I have new respect for my Grip 551s!
@Cr0cket206 жыл бұрын
I was surprised at how much they could take. Great blades for sure.

You're getting some damn good results from the Sharpmaker, man. Did you go beyond the stock fine ceramic stones? Perhaps to the ultra fine?
@Cr0cket209 жыл бұрын
I moved the sharpmaker to their benchstones. But I did add the ultra fine stone then followed by stropping.

Did the griptilian process the sea turtle and lobster well? jk, I just got the new one in cpm-20cv today from BladeHQ. I'm in Utah, like you, so I just drove over and picked it up. I'm never going to let go of this knife, I know I'm honeymooning, but the steel, G10 and the dressings are all just so nice.

why would you go under water with the knife in your pocket. you can't just take it out and set it aside?

+Gabriel Torres If you accidentally fall into the water with your knife. If a kid falls into a pool of water and you go in after him. Yes both have happened to me.

taking it apart voids the warranty????!!! wtf is that shit
@Cr0cket208 жыл бұрын
some like to do our own maintenance. Do like it don't do it. Simple.
@cant_standya7 жыл бұрын
They put that on paper so that if you break it as a result of messing with it, they're not responsible for that. If you just maintain your knives normally and take them apart now and then, they will absolutely still cover it. I've sent them knives that I told them straight up I took apart, and they had no problem covering them.

you wanna know something funny, i bought the Griptilian 551 H2O and didn't get it any were near water for 2 weeks and than over night i found the knife dotted with rust the next morning. So recap i buy a Griptilian made for water use and than never use it here water and get rust on through out the whole knife and Crocket takes a standard Grip and puts it in knife hell and gets a couple of tiny rust spots. FML i quit.

After a week of exposure to high humidity, I don't think you're going to experience that much gunk & rust. Heck, my Ganzo will fare as well at a fraction of the cost given that same test. A Rolex won't tell time any better than my Timex, but feel free to spend ten, twenty, thirty times as much for something that is, at best, marginally better in this modern age. Ever hear of the law of dimming returns?
@Cr0cket207 жыл бұрын
I have not. However, I have heard of the law of diminishing returns. Smartassery aside, I personally wouldn't purchase the Rolex. It's not worth it to me. However, I would rather spend the extra money to get a quality knife that has a great warranty and awesome customer service as opposed to a company that seems to be ripping off the designs of others and using a steal that I generally have not been impressed with in the past. To each his own.
