The funniest thing about these comments are the comparison from Chinese to US made products...look around you..look at what you are wearing...ALL made in China. I love Benchmade and support them whenever possible , but I also really like the clones too. I I was skeptical about OTF knifes durability so bought a clone for 26$ and after using it for 1.5 years I upgraded to the real deal.. I hate the idea of counterfeits in general, but if not for the fake one, I never would've learned about Benchmade or bought the real one. . Most times I still end up carrying my clone just because I don't want to lose my real one.

The copies are hit and miss.. Some of the Chinese clones are actually quite good. Not as well-built as a Benchmade or Microtech, but WAY cheaper and just as functional for civilian EDC. Not encouraging buying fakes -- but for the price.................

As of current standards, there’s no reason to purchase an Infidel. Microtech has cheaper selections that from my experience are top of the line, your last stop for an OTF. 100% there are cheaper options like the AKC M-16 I believe it’s called in the $60 range that is a really sturdy D/A OTF, but Microtech pretty much reigns supreme when looking into the high end OTF market.

Sadly the price point on a lot of these make them pretty good value compared to the real thing. I have a Micro-tech Troodon fake that cost under $50, and in my mind it's about $100+ worth of knife. I don't have much love for MT or Benchmade as companies (great products, lousy business practices) so I don't feel guilty owning it, though we're it an Emerson, Spyderco, CRKT, Boker, Gerber, Dalto (oops, i forgot about that cupid knock off - my bad), etc. I'd not own a fake on principal.

i bought an benchmade infidel at a pawn shop, they were asking $280, i got it for $200. i have a bunch of crappy otfs that work perfect but i thought it would be cool to check out some sort higher quality otf. well thats what i get for thinking i could have something nice as its looking like a bought a fake. the quality seems good though, theres only two things off about it, it weighs 7.4 ozs and the pocket clip has the fake font. for opening packages my $40 chinese lighting and other misc cheap otfs would have been just fine. im going to keep this clone, but i will be informing the pawn shop that they sold me a fake.

I have to admit, I paid twenty dollars for a chinese clone that is damn good. It fires nicely, has a decent blade, and I don't have to worry about damaging it. The real Benchmade is retailed at 400 dollars by the way. I am not saying it is supposed to be as good as the Benchmade. But for a knockoff, it is a damn good knife for the money.

I bought a Benchmade automatic knife a few years ago with a so-called lifetime warranty. When the spring lost tension and failed to fully open upon pressing the button, I sent it to Benchmade. They apparently sprayed a little WD-40 on the blade and sent it back. It opened a little better but not fully. I returned it again and Benchmade refused to honor their lifetime warranty. They sent it back to me stating in so many words that my "lifetime" use was up. It now sits in my drawer unused. So much for their bull-shit warranty! I thought you paid extra for this warranty--apparently not so. You pay for the worthless advertising hype. I doubt Benchmade will be any better with their otf models either.

Haha $200 try more like like $375-$450 for the "real" deal vs $30 for a "fake". 5 Years ago the chinese knock offs were pretty bad but very cheap (used to be able to get knock offs for around $10-$15) now most of them are about 90% as good as the real deal at less then 10% the cost of the "real" deal. On top of this i would rather lose (or have the police take the knife away as many have no clue the difference between a otf knife and a true switchblade really is) a knife i spent less then $30 on then one i paid $400+ for.

The fake is only acceptable if you need a prop in a movie that never actually has to cut anything. If your intention was ever self defense or to actually cut things on a day to day basis, like cardboard boxes, etc then you'll find the fake was made with the typical chinesium metal that actually folds in half when pressure is applied. It's beyond useless metal. It's kind of like paying for a real Honda Accord for $20,000 or being offered a fake for $300. The fake has doors that open just like a Honda, and it looks just like a Honda, but the second you turn the key to actually start driving it, the wheels fall off, the exhaust explodes, the engine siezes, the windows shatter, the steering wheel breaks in half, the radio explodes, the AC blows flames out the vents, the seat belts dont lock when brakes are applied, the air bag kills you. Etc, etc.

First got disappointed but after reading these comments I'm over it lol.... It's a good enough everyday knife and served me well for the price. Which btw I guess I gotten a slightly better end of the fakes as it holds the edge pretty good and there is no play of any sort with blade out ... So $90 was most I was willing to pay anyway, and I can't complain about it other than paint chipping after a year and some ...

Ok I just bought one and it must be a really good fake because it’s different than both of these. It’s like in between. -Paid $110. -Pocket clip is the same grey color as the real one but Infidel is in the wrong font with no butterfly. -Weight is 5oz. -“Design by McHenry” looks correct. -Instead of Patent Pending or numbers, there’s just nothing. Still has D2. -Blade is not loose. -Button is straight. -Finish is not rubbery or anodized. It’s like a flat black paint and you can see prints and grease left by your fingers on it.

I’ve got a Chinese fake but it’s still been a very solid knife. It doesn’t have the Infidel clip, just a Benchmade knockoff but the blade doesn’t rattle and It fires every time. The fake put a glass breaker on the handle and definitely has the weight but generally it’s a decent knife and if all you want is the cool factor of the OTF, it’s totally worth the $30 and the month-long weight lol

I have an Infidel $369 and a S&W assisted OTF $50 and I must say, even though the S&W requires a manual reload, there is absolutely NO BLADE PLAY where the Infidel does have a bit of blade play. S&W seems like its better made for a fraction of the price, just not as fun because of the manual reload of the blade.

China is a major steel producer and much of their output is shipped to the United States. Also, steel making is a very mature industry...not a lot of arcane secrets out there. Another little point is that by definition, ALL steel is "quality" steel simply because of how it is made. Only a true consumer buffoon would believe there is a factory somewhere making "crappy steel" just to make crappy steel products. Steel is actually quite cheap, and the only thing that differentiates is what the end user wants the steel for. 440 stainless is actually a very GOOD steel and used in most knife blades, and will harden up to Rockwell 60. The Chinese currently produce MOST of the swords being sold around the world, and they do so using traditional sword-making forging, grinding, hardening, tempering, sharpening and polishing. I'm pretty sure they also know how to make knives every bit as good as being made in the United States.

Yeah, this is not true at all. China has a cultural and business ethic called guanxi, or exploitation of personal relationships. This mentality permeates though out all of Chinese culture, especially the steel industry. If they can cheat you, they will. If they can supply you with inferior product without getting caught, they will. That belief system also has a complete lack of accountability, as they will blame you for not catching them in the act. It's why I will never do business with them ever again and why I insist of either buying American or another country not tied with China.

I've worked operating a large multi-torch oxy-acetalyne cutting machine and I could tell you 100% of the time when I cut into a piece of Chinese made steel. Quite often the surface of the plate would make it obvious. Much more likely to have small imperfections that led to a much quicker corrosion and rusting. As for cutting, the impurities would be more likely to pop or produce worse slag. The popping and slag could easily lead to a torch tip being obstructed leading to bad parts. 8 torches and instantly having to stop your run and likely scrap the parts you're in process of cutting .....it's inferior steel. I'm sure the inferior qualities aren't a detrimental for some applications but do not suggest it's comparable.

Having owned both a fake and a genuine Benchmade, I'll spend the money on a Benchmade every time. The fake isn't terrible, but make no mistake-- it is not a Benchmade, it doesn't work like a Benchmade, it doesn't last like a Benchmade, it doesn't have anywhere near the quality of a Benchmade. I knew it was a fake when I saw the $30 price tag, but at the moment I can't afford to buy, nor did I have the time to find a genuine Benchmade. My next one will be a genuine replacement for the original that I misplaced during a cross-country move. I've never owned a better carry knife, and i was did that.

I believe the handles are zinc on the fake. I have a ravencrest ultratech knock off, and on the website it's listed as zinc alloy, and it is freaking heavy. That would also explain the lack of anodizing, as zinc usually is not anodized.

I'm curious if these same differences apply to the mini-infidel. I get that the obvious things like weight and quality of markings probably apply, but my mini has a few differences that make it seem fake, and other qualities that don't. The Clip has the right infidel logo graphic and overall faded color, but no butterfly. The Blade also has the right (anodized?) markings, but includes a little "d2" watermark on the "McHenry" side. It does not have "patent pending" on the shank, but instead has "US patent 7.562.455" under the McHenry logo. Any thoughts?

I must have gotten super lucky got a clone from dh gate about 5 years ago and it's been perfect besides won't get as sharp, actually one side is shit and one side is ok like 6/10 and the blade is about the looseness as the real deal. You have to clean it at least annually too or I do lots of lint gets in but it's same for my others so not really a difference. It was $35 in about 2017 iirc. I think the old ones actually used to be pretty good but the new ones since probably covid are just shit.

The handle is almost certainly a zinc alloy which is not magnetic and much much heavier than a quality aluminum alloy

Why in Hell does no one test the steel. D2 is high carbon steel that is NOT stainless. A touch of mustard or vinegar will stain the blade edge to black. Even the best chinese stainless steel, like 8 or 9 carbon series will not stain.

And so people aren't confused, D2 is a lot harder of a steel than anything coming out of China. Also benchmade does their own heat treating of their steels in house furthering the hardness beyond whats in the textbook for typical D2. Any rockwell test on these steels would reveal the bullshit metal vs the real deal. Anyone ACTUALLY trying to use the fake one on a day to day basis is going to discover what a cheap, brittle, shitty edge-holding steel that was used, it would probably dull after cutting a couple cardboard boxes open.

I don't know what kind of idiot owns that knife, but looks like he'd be better off carrying a cheap screwdriver in his pocket to pry and lever with instead of a double-edge knife blade NEVER meant to be abused in such a fashion. You don't get that kind of blade damage stabbing or slashing people, so that means, like most tacticool wannabe operators, he's been strutting around flashing his expensive BM "INFIDEL" so everyone can recognize he's one of the pack. Used to be expensive watches, now I guess it's expensive knives. When I was in the Army back before it was so cool, I remember keeping my bayonet handy for killing purposes, but I never ever used it or any other knife as a pry bar...we had proper tools for that. The knife I'm trusting my life to sure as hell won't be the one I used to open C-ration cans (something the junior crowd has probably never seen).

Hey man…thanks for this video…I have wanted (a legit) Infidel for a while now. I am a knife nut but also a small business owner so it is not easy for me to justify cost. Tattoo shops only need so many knives for “security”. I see a lot of stuff people bring to trade and I am waiting on this to show up. I have not seen it in person yet. The real Benchmade I see is more like 400, not 300. 400 for what is basically a fidget toy is ridiculous! I'll take the faker for 40 any day. As for a torture test, I watched one where the guy pounded a fake one through a 1" board with a hammer and it DID NOT FAIL!!!

I paid $50 for mine and the letters you say are faded or not there is on mine. Button for the knife is straight. You got it from a bad dealer. Only thing mine has that benchmade does not is blade wiggle, for $250 more it is not worth it. Had mine for 2+ years and carry it all the time.

Buy from chinahighendedc oh dhgate. They have actual steel. They are their own knives by VESPA. They have M390 and S35VN. They aren't clones though and they aren't cheap. Up to $300 but you know what you're getting. Some of them are better than any of the OTFs in the USA honestly from style to action.
