Man, it's wild to me that Benchmade the original American balisong company could make such a bad design with so many resources. Literally no one who actually flips wants a balisong that rattles and doesn't have bushings and a tuned action. Ridiculous how much they missed the mark with these. All they had to do was make more titanium channel balis with bushings and a swappable spacers system..

Benchmade yet again doing too little, too late, for too much. Why would anyone buy an untuned, rattling Necron with glorified plastic handles / STAINLESS STEEL liners (could have used titanium for that money), and no bushings for 500 dollars? When you can get top a tier flipper like the BRS replicant or squid krake raken for less? Even some HOM design costs less and all of them come tuned out of the box.

My Necron Jade just arrived, and wow. It's my first Benchmade Bali, but I've been collecting Benchmade for a few years now from the Nimravus (BK) Tanto to Osborn, Full immunity (manual), Griptilan, 169BK Protagonist Tanto etc. My first Microtech Bali was the 1st edition Tachyon in Ti (2002) and I've also just picked up a Microtech Glykon OTF in OD Green/Weathered Ti - just Amazing!!

meh. not even bushings. g10 and more plastic spacers/extensions.. its essentially a 200 buck knife, riding in on the coat tails of their bygone era..for five hundred bucks. such a pity. the blade shape is nice. I will give them that. and they made it latchless. cool. but thats not enough. not enough for many flippers anyway. Its like they didnt know what market to aim it at. I am genuinely confused by what they were up to. really was looking forward to it, but now? hmm.

About 5 years ago I got a 51, for a long time I was honestly embarrassed when people would ask me how much money I spent on that knife. Now that it's discontinued, it's not so bad. On top of that, finding out that these sandwich construction, steel liner balisongs are.... How much. I kinda feel better. I could have gotten.... Almost an 87 for that price.

Goofy weight system, steel liners, rattly knife, high price and no bushings. Sounds like benchmade!

@@suiii-_- what a clone of this knife? man... I dont think I'd even bother. it's pleasant looking but *shrugs* its not inspiring. its like looking under the hood of an opel manta and finding a rusty pushbike. if the clone has bushings then yeah, sand the bushings down a little and tighten up... but why bother :) just look for g10 scales and metal liners and take your pick on something thats actually good.

Love mine and the throw back to jody Sampson, liners modeled after 80 series steel balis, then the blade style was Jody’s favorite and the adjustment in weight is awesome. If you love Bali history and love Easter eggs this is the Bali. Love flipping it over my squid krake.

Great overview man, but this knife is genuinely a terrible ripoff of a product through and through. As a person who has flipped, collected, and bought many balisongs of all different price ranges, this has to be one of the absolute biggest insults to a modern day balisong design that I have ever seen. For $500 dollars, you are getting a balisong with easily strippable, unhardened, and loctited, T6 screws when the standard is hardened T10. For $500 dollars, you are getting a balisong with heavy stainless steel liners for a flipper that is supposed to be focusing on agile performance? For $500, you are getting a balisong that has terrible QC and tolerances out of the box with an outdated washer pivot system instead of bushings (Will Hirsch reviewed this knife, and his had a bent blade out the box) with no lubricant from the factory. For $500 you have a knife running on BRASS pivots instead of steel, further diminishing the durability of this knife that is supposedly supposed to be dropped numerous times. And for $500, you have a knife that will have its warranty voided if you remotely try to adjust the knife or even use the feature of the removable tungsten weights. For anybody who doesn't really know about good balisongs, just know that there is FAR BETTER than this absolute scam of a product that Benchmade has made. Benchmade claims that this is for serious performance flipping, but these specs speak anything but. For the price you are paying here, you can get balisongs with removable weight systems, titanium handle construction, perfectly smooth tolerances from hand tuned bushing systems, anodized finishes with unique mill patterns, high quality blade steels, warranties that don't go against the features of the knife, and so much more. The Glory days of the coveted BM42 and so on are long gone. Benchmade is stuck in the past, and there are much better brands that put an emphasis on both performance, and quality (Squid Industries, MachineWise, Etc.). If you are a true Die Hard Benchmade fanatic, then enjoy this knife to the fullest. But if you are in the market for a good balisong, or even just a good knife, stay far FAR away from this overpriced letter opener.
