Love the aesthetic, the materials and the fit and finish. Benchmade seems to be a bit of an Internet whipping boy these days, but their black class has never let me down

Plain, axis lock for me. Waiting for them to be restocked. Trying to keep my knife purchases to only pieces that really get me excited, and this one sure does. Price isn't too bad but wish they had used s30v.

I’m using mine tip up until the lock stick goes away. With the ring clip in tip down carry, that lock stick leaves the blade stuck open.

Like some other Benchmade's I've had, this one has an axis lock that sticks like crazy if I open the knife with any kind of force. Getting fed up with Benchmade. That said, I got a Cold Steel ti-lite kris last week and the liner lock is impossible to move over with my thumb. Have to use two hands to close it. So I'm 0-2 for my last two purchases.

I got the cf elite straight edge. Very cool knife but mine has some serious lock stick if I flip it out with some forceful wrist. Not the first Benchmade I've had with this issue.

Tip down is too slow, the clip doesn't stop you when closing or opening tip down, try it before talking too much!

I dislike waveable knives because they fail a lot of times, they are annoying, they make it harder to use the kubaton techniques of the folder and they give the operator the impression that he should deploy if the bad guy already closed the distance. Something like this SOCP folder is the way to go. It has a thumbdisc, not a flipper, not a wave, so you deploy and sweep the thumbdisc to the end ensuring the lockup, milliseconds slower than the wave but less prone to fail. Now the other part is the use of the folder in the closed position as an improvised kubaton, with that you have fast and uncomplicated deployment and you completely eliminated the possibility of lock failure, even tough is very unlikely to happen. Greg and Benchmade knows their stuff and it comes to tactical folders.

This would have been a great knife if the blade was straight for effortless penetration because it’s a self defense knife and if it was a flipper because the thumb disk impedes full penetration. Great grippy scales for hitting bones in self defense though. Could have been a masterpiece if they would have made these changes. They should contact me before they release flawed designs.

It's a deep carry clip but unfortunately due to how low the deep carry type clip is positioned down the handle it's bot actual deep carry unfortunately. I only can have deep carry knives to be discreet when I where them so that one flaw makes it so me and a lot of others won't own the SOCP folder. I'll just have to stick with the real deep carry CRKT Noh Ken Otanashi that's also has a 4 1/2 Blade and if half the price of this as well from Blade HQ. I wish Benchmade and Microtech would make budget versions of all their expensive models as well so more people would buy them. For self defense you know need anything more than AUS8. Also a mistake in the design is using a thumb stud instead of a flipper. With a thumb stud or disk it's impedes the penetration of the knife. With a flipper I can use all of the blade so I'm not carry extra blade weight and hulk that I can't even use for self defense. I liked the old one better. It looks better. Also in an extreme fight an axis lock can close on your hand. I've stabbed and slashed trees for years and have never had a frame lock or liner lock close on me but an axis lock has when your hand slides up and down the handle when you are stabbing trees and dummy mannikins. I also love the rapid deployment clip on the first one. Very smart. Also serrations are for functional knives. They have three times the cutting power and will need to be sharpened A LOT less. With serrations the rest of your knife might be dull but with the partial serrations you always have a part of your knife that's razor sharp and ready for fast tasks.
