Nice vid. Suggestion: Try undervolting the 7950X. I run a 7700X and it helps a lot! Fast and 30 (!) degrees C cooler. Maybe I was lucky with my silicone: 4 cores really fast 4 good. All cores reach 5490 sustained, single core 5780 Mhz. Settings PBO2 on, undervolt -30 all cores. max PPT 85 Watt. boost +200 Mhz (but also tried +400 and it worked) I'm using the UEFI not AMDs overclocking software. I run an ASRock B650 mobo but all manufacturers offer this undervolt. Do a search, there's some tutorials on YT (which is how I found out). Curious if you get improvement from that.

Yeah eh, that is a concept I'm familiar with. I used to undervolt all the AM4 systems I built for the longest time, until it seems bios updates started dialing them in more conservatively by default. I'd try it if I did want to OC or tinker with performance, and or gaming. For now, I've left this system stock, cause it's my dedicated editing rig, I need it to just work, and so far it is.

Great video, now im not sure but maybe the CPU isn't hitting 100% because it's an old install and something might be conflicting, maybe it's only using 8 cores instead of the 16 it has since the 7950x has 2 ccd's of 8 cores each.

I think it's the sceduler. How Windows directs workload to the CPU from the application. Some applications are more optimized than others. Adobe Premiere has a different behaviour than Davinci Resolve.

Maybe process lasso would help

I tried a fresh copy of windows on a spare SSD shortly after filing this. It made no difference. Seems my seasoned copy of windows it running fine, so I I've continued using it since. Seems not hitting 100% is a product of using GPU Rendering. The render simply does not need 100% of the CPU cause it's using mostly the GPU. I do hit pretty much 100% in software rendering tasks, and I guess in that case, I do get a to scale improvement in render times.

What about GPU temps?

Well, this video wasn't really about the GPU. I have other videos about that GPU.
