I know many of you are eagerly waiting for the Stalker 2 video. I'm still working on it, and it's been quite challenging. Most of the settings require restarting the game, and each restart means sitting through the shader compiling screen again and again ... On top of that, the game is often CPU-limited, which makes measuring the performance impact of each setting even more difficult. That said, I'll start editing the video soon and I aim to have it uploaded by tomorrow, so please be patient.

It is. But forest areas are much worse now after patch 1, not sure it was worth it tho, I don't see any difference in "improved" details, but I do see 10-20% performance drop and almost melting CPU...

@@TeenPerspektiva It was never a standard, especially for multi-platform PC games. The only period of time where developers really tried not to screw up is late 90s-early 00s era of console expensive N64 cartridge, CD and DVD games, and even back than there were plenty of revisions and updated versions of games, to the point where PAL or NTSC region had severely broken or cut/censored versions of the game, sometimes with months of even 1+ year release time gap, or no release at all. Online updates made things worse, but the way many PC ports being treated these days is way better than in 90-00s.

There were exceptions with some bad cookies, but it was still expected for games to come out working. This current bullshit of expecting stuff to be unplayable months after release is something that only really became a thing in recent years.

I just stumbled across your video today while trying to figure out why the game was starting to screen tear and have artifacts. This was on my second playthrough, the first only had issues in cut scenes when the camera was panning and a lot was going on. It's an excellent game, the combat is a blast and I'm having fun respecing and trying different strats. It's definitely not typical Dragon Age though, so I understand why it turns off so many people.

@@mkdrone794 Every Dragon Age was different, even Origins was not the same (similar to Baldur's Gate 1-2) as it was supposed to be during early stages of development, even console versions of 1 and 2 are different from the same game on PC, so I found people complaining about it kinda hypocritical 🤣

great video dude! it felt like you went in depth a bit more than Digital Foundry did on their video :) (FYI I do like Digital Foundry too) I have a AMD RX 7900 XT card and a Ryzen 5700x3D but they get quite toasty playing this game locked at 90fps at 1440p, so following your guide I should hopefully see a reduction in heat but for the same performance. This game is actually very heavy on CPU usage. If you have a CPU like me ( i5 10400F) or something like a Ryzen 5 3600 you would definitely struggle to maintain 60fps (even on medium settings, 1080p) especially once you are in those city/hub area. Even upscale will not help. When I'm in the open area everything is fine (60 - 80fps).

With the FSR3 Mod, everything ultra (ray tracing off), i get rock solid 60 FPS (2560×1080 resolution), with a i7-4470k, 16 GB DDR3 and a RTX 2080Ti. A suprise to be sure, but a welcome one 😅

yeah! that fsr3 frame gen mod is a blessing. I have the same CPU and graphics and I've played SH2 and Space marine 2 at 1440/ultra/No RT above 60 fps, no stutter, all ultra but shadows medium.

I don't know if you inspected texture quality at "medium" ... Game turns into a soup sometimes. Especially on big screen, it is immensely noticeable. Anything below Ultra looks like Fortnite. Especially on clothes. But even on DLSS Balanced, this game is a VRAM eating monster. In a bad and unoptimized way. I have 12gb 3080, but I can't find any good balanced setting with texture quality set to Ultra. I am on a 4k screen, so I don't even know if Dlss helps. Because when I manually change the resolution to 2560x1440 Vram usage drops, but when I use 4k native res with DLSS even on Performance (so it is 1080p internally) Vram usage doesn't drop significantly. Couple hundred MBs and that is it.

Frostbite engine is really hard on CPUs. My i7-13700k is routinely at 30-43% total utilization (I haven’t turned on monitoring of all the cores), and my CPU temps are much higher than normal despite having a DeepCool LS520 that’s been pretty good at keeping it cool.
