Benchtop Jointer making / Free PDF

PDF plan added. In this video I am building a benchtop jointer. I used my hand planer and some woods. It is very handy and awesome. The woods are now smooth and slippery. After watching this video you will be able to easily make a benchtop jointer.

Hi Greensaw! Thank you very much for sharing your plans and making the video. I am now cutting the wood to make one. I had trouble finding the measurement for the verticle support until I watched the video again and saw it is 184mm. It would have been easier if it had been on the plan. I really like that. I was thinking of getting a foot pedal for this before you mentioned that you are using one. That's a perfect idea. I would build an enclosure that would keep things from falling on the pedal and activating the planer by accident on mine too. I have a tiny shop and sometimes things tend to fall over and I can just see a plank I'm getting ready to surface; hitting the pedal and triggering the planer.

Great build, but to be effective, you need to plane the face first, then force that face to the upright fence to plane the edge at 90° to the face

Good job. Really dangerous feeding with your thumb on the edge like that. One little slip and goodbye to the tip if it! Use a push block and save having a trip to the er.

Great idea and a great video.I only hope you use a push block and/or stick when you are normally using these tools. You slipped once and almost put your hand into the that spinning blade. Not a good thing.

I agree ..... The machine is made to be used blade down .. It will only take one slip . There's a reason why thickness planners have covers and guards .... scary.

Good build, man! Drum cover would be helpful here - for safety purposes. And please respect safety and use push blocks - scary to watch moments where your fingers are soooo close to drum.

ahhhh damn it, now i want to make one. that came out nice, it’s simple, strong, and works great. i like it ! the only thing i wouldn’t do is run crap pallet wood thru it and take the chance of chipping the blades. because then they’ll need sharpening and that will remove a lot of material for nothing. plus it’s hours worth of your time. just my two cents.
