Got a fusion recently and while it's a great camera that can get some pretty amazing shots; the software to access and edit the files on the camera leaves a lot to be desired. I dont see why I should have to render the video three times to actually get it to where I need it to be. Once from Fusion studio, another one from insta360 Studio for the Keyframes, and another from Premiere Pro to make the final cut with music and possibly splicing the footage together. Seems a bit ridiculous to me and a huge waste of space on my PC for just one video.

Great video. FYI my fusion splits video files if longer than 7min5sec. However, the confusing part was the generated file name. The common last 3 digits were 433 such as GPF00433 and the corresponding GPB00433. The part that was confusing is that there were other file names such as GPF100433 and GPB100433. The import into fusion only worked if all files with both file names were entered at once.

Hey Mr. Ben, if I don't have Adobe Premiere Pro CC and don't want to pay the monthly fee, can I still do all the fancy overcapture stuff - i.e. not just tiny planet or flat video for the while shot but zooming in and out, panning, following etc. - just within Fusion Studio? If not: Is it correct that the Garmin Virb Desktop software is free and can edit basically any 360 video, not just from the Virb (w/o the sensor overlay obviously). So could one use Fusion Studio just to stitch and create the 360 video and then use Garmins Hyperframe DirectorMode to create 2D videos out of that? Image-quality wise I tend to buy the Fusion, but since I'm a video-amateur I'm somewhat put off by the reportedly cumbersome workflow. Still undecided between Fusion, Virb, Rylo and Madventure...what a great problem to have :-) Great video btw, as always.

I got a Fusion a couple of weeks ago. I experienced the drain too while it was in my bag. I think it may have something to do with the wifi remaining on, even though the camera is turned off. I found that when I turned the wifi off before packing my Fusion away, the camera didn't experience the same drain.

So the second Stabilization mode is like SmartTrack on an insta360 camera?

Nah it’s not to do with tracking, it’s to do with the orientation of the camera. SmartTrack is used when reframing, anti-shake keeps it as a 360 video 👍

LIFE in 360 I received the Fusion and I am a little disappointed. I fully charged it, took a couple of 360 photos last night and turned it off when the battery was still at 73%. Came back from work and the battery was completely drained. I am also not happy with the picture quality (used fusion studio to stitch). If you don't have an iPhone, you'd need to buy the GoPro remote as the Android app is a bit and miss which makes it a very expensive toy. Ben, any ideas with regards to the battery? Does yours do the same? I would appreciate and answer. Thanks.

Ben, the Yi360 also records as long as your memory lasts. (with external powerpack) However did you notice as well, as sharp and detailed the fusion is, towards the stitching line it becomes really fuzzy and blurry. So out of the 360 degrees actually only 320 degrees are usable. Question for overheating: Do you really have to take the battery out and use a powerbank, or just leave the battery in and use a powerbank. Would that be enough? I actually haven't tested it out. Yes, I also was surprised that attaching the camera to an AMD win10 computer and using fusion studio it was really quite fast stitching the video, without having to fiddle the cards out and copying them onto the computer. A great Plus! and ease of workflow!

How do you like the Fusion? It's a lot more expensive after you add two more micro sd cards and an extra battery, so I haven't bought one. I would really like the stabilization and the higher quality for video.

As a photographer by trade, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED to find out the Fusion doesn't even have the MOST BASIC of camera functions (EXPOSURE and WHITE BALANCE control). It is pretty much an AUTO camera with NO ability to lock down exposure or WB. I just assumed it would at least have this basic functionality and didn't even think to check. All cameras built in the past 10yrs+ and run over $50 have these function. I cannot deal with colors changing and exposure pumping as I move in and out of shadows. There is exposure compensation, but all that does is modify the AUTO EVERYTHING +/-. I am hoping that I am just overreacting, but couple this along with the VERY LONG workflow requirements, I may just be sending it back. They must update the firmware/software...otherwise...I'd say its extremely overpriced for just the difference in resolution and stability.

Ben. Your videos are amazing and full of so much information. Can you do one on processing the fusion's RAW images for stills? It seems that the Fusion Studio app only handles the JPEG copies and won't do anything when you set the camera to take both JPEG and RAW photos. It's really starting to bug me as I can't seem to find the right way to stitch the front and back raw images together.

Nice Ben, I use the same cards and the remote. I never tried, but once imported, can you disconnect the camera? Where do they go if so? Or do you have to render with the camera connected? I usually render images by connecting, and pull the cards for videos.

Great content! I upgraded from a Theta S major difference expect my photos are inconsistent (more good than bad) on the GoPro so far. I took one shot indoors no blinds hardwood floors and the floor was super blown out with a weird color around the white and any manual HDR 3 exposures I do is not pretty. Coming from using to the Theta super easy in-camera HDRs. Any tips for GoPro Fusion photos, do you Protunes and have you tried HDR yet?

Hi Ben, I have been using Xiaomi 360 cam for taking 360 still photos for my Google SV (and virtual tours), and it works very well for me as it automatically stitches the still photos. I am looking at getting a GoPro Fusion due to the high res and clarity but I am not sure if it will automatically stitch the 360 photos or not. Have you try taking/ test a 360 still photo and upload to Google SV? Your opinion is very much appreciated. :) And keep up the good work!

Just wanted to add I discovered the overheating wasn't due to the camera itself but the battery rather. By changing the battery just before the point (i.e. little over an hour) you cool down the camera and it will go the next hour, changing the battery every hour will allow for (not tested on this but I did this on samsungs Gear 360 camera (first gen) when it overheated. Even if the battery is not dead change it out (to remove the heat SOURCE). It's the battery not the camera that overheats, and I'd reccommend getting at least 3 batteries (and charger I got them for fusion 2 batteries and 3 bat charger for 25.00 on amazon. I have tested this on gopro hero 3 white but you should do a change out the batteries segment test :) let me know if you do! Love your videos man!

Ben, in this video, I see a short clip of you walking in a forest- with no sky- just trees. I'd love to see more like that- because I work in forests and I'd like to do these once I purchase a 360 camera. If you have any more clips like that- especially a long one- that would be awesome, or perhaps you could do one that is mostly in a deep forest with big trees. question- I have the xiaomi mijia mi sphere and went on a ski trip a few months and decided to bring it alone to take some video while I was skiing. I had assumed it would record through until I pressed the stop button but when I loaded the clips onto my phone, they were split into 30 second to minute long clips, resulting in chunks of time missed between each clip. I use a sandisk extreme 64 gb sd card with a level 10 rating. Is there a way around this so I can record continuous video for more than 30 seconds? Thanks

That’s not normal.. is your SD card on the list of recommended cards in the app? Also are you sure your video settings were correct? Sounds like at least one of those two things were at fault.

LIFE in 360 my card isn’t on the list, which is likely the problem. I am shooting at 3840x1920 30fps so that shouldn’t be the issue.

Loving all of your videos. Got the Fusion and having a blast with it. So happy I did. One note, when you talk about slow motion your graphic says slowed down to 100fps. Wouldn't changing 50fps to 100fps speed up the video 😉? I think it should have read, "Slowed to 25fps". Otherwise, very awesome video.

I was looking into buying a ricoh theta v or a xiaomi misphere. I will attest to the Sandisk Extreme PLUS 128-GB cards working perfectly in my Fusion (and Hero 5 Black & 6 Black). I somehow lucked out and got them for a little less than the 64-GB Extreme PLUS version during the last Christmas season. Anyways, thanks for another great vid, with more great info. :)

Still no support for FCPX. Disappointing for Final Cut editors.

Of course you can use FCPX.. stitch in Fusion Studio and import to final cut. Don’t know where you heard that.

LIFE in 360 there is no GoPro VR plugins available for FCPX, only for Adobe Premiere Pro.

Sure but how is that GoPro’s fault? None of the other cameras offer it either. Different editors have different pros and cons.. and to me, that’s a con of FCPX.

LIFE in 360 True, I did finally find earlier today that Insta360 Studio work just fine for my needs and does pretty much the same thing as Gopro VR plugins. I just would like everting to be built into FCPX

I thought time lapse was the only option when connected to a powerbank? I remember going through 2 batteries while recording a table top game, and then connected my powerbank to record video. I later realized at home it was just taking pictures the while time. I must have done something wrong.

Hi Ben, with your skill most of the 360 Stills and Videos look good this one is up to your usual high standard. BUT (yes a big but) my Mi Sphere 360 with the latest firmware and software updates is still looking like the best value, and is more than equal to my requirements. But love your posts and expertise. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all and sundry. Oh someone mentioned being unable to take vids longer than a few seconds, well I'm not an expert but have taken some at over 20 minutes, though very large files. PS.......................Keep up the good work, I'm sure we all appreciate the results.
