can you try the 4k live streaming on youtube?? i bought the insta one just for that quality live streaming, but then when i tried it out, it looked like garbage so i returned it... and would be soooo happy to see it look better!

I guess the problem with any camera is that live streaming is still limited to 720p on most platforms. Once we can stream in FHD or 4k then it'll make these cameras great for live streams.

I will second that BIG time. Just got the Fusion and as great as the footage is, it is IMPOSSIBLE to work with for what I need (shooting arena shows from the stage). @ThulsZ, any decisions yet?

Depends if you're a consumer using it for social media and fun, or someone looking to get into making corporate 360 videos and experiences. GoPro takes a really beefy computer to fully make use of its capabilities. Sure you can downsample the clips into small proxies and edit from there, but even that take hours to do on a computer that isn't absolutely kitted out.

Yep, no pun intended, since I have been using the ONE a lot, I wanted a second one for when the battery ran out on the first and I needed to keep recording. That is a definite selling point for me on the ONE X that the battery is swapable. Everywhere I go, I have been blowing people away with my ONE. I have been showing them video on my iPhone and they are amazed by it and most have never seen 360 before.

I was already sold on the image quality of the Yi360, which is a lot less expensive now, but: 1. The Yi is at the end of it’s lifetime, no developments or updates any more. 2. Users report a lot of issues on the Yi360 users FB page 3. This one recently came out, it still young (firmware updates etc). 4. The price has come down itmt (yes, time flies) I can get it now in NL for € 345 One Q tho; works the ‘invisible’ selfie stick only for a genuine one (€ 45!), or also for generic ones?

True, but you are on a whole different level and a silly Matrix-like vid still appeals to us neophytes lol. I ordered the camera yesterday and two things immediately happened: I got an error screen message after I checked out and my bank called me cause they thought it was a fraudulent transaction. Their website is quite unstable, at least in the US. I stopped freaking out only when I saw an email confirming my order but a day later I still don't know the approximate shipping date. Sorry for the long ass reply.

This is going to sound like a crazy question but I’m finally thinking of upgrading my Hero 3 Black. It’s been more of a fun action cam and sometimes additional camera on some shoots with my a6300. I was thinking of upgrading to the Hero 7 until I saw this and 360 cams have been tempting besides the fact they’ve lacked quality in crop. Would you go with the One X at 5.7K30 (close to 1080 equivalent cropped?) or the Hero 7. I find the One X to be a more overall versatile camera that could also be fun with as an action/vacation camera.

Hi Ben, I have the question about the Insta360X. My first question is, if you have tested remote control of INSTA360X which is together with remote WiFi control on my "radar" from today. I am owner of Insta360 ONE and GoPro Fusion and this camera due to durability and possibility to trigger the shoots from longer distance can by another my outdoor companion instead of my Insta360 ONE and due to easier workflow and compatibility of INSTA360 with Google street view strong rival to my GoPro Fusion. If you have any insider info I will appreciate it before I am going to buy this equipment, particularly the photo quality and the distance which can be managed by this new remote control, because smart remote of GoPro fusion is reliably working on quite long distance and it is giving the chance the 360 photographer to hide himself from the shot. The second question is if the new version of editing application mobile and desktop particularly possibility to connect several videos in one piece. Thanks for the review. A question concerning the PHOTO resolution: You say the images look better although the resolution is worse. I guess this refers to the look on a mobile phone or a monitor. Have you compared if the difference in pixel resolution is visible in a VR headset? I regularly use my Oculus Go (or Gear VR) to look at my 360 photos myself or show them to friends and family this way (the immersive feeling still creates wow-effects. ) If I compare images taken with my old Samsung 360 cam (the very first one, which has 30 MP for photos) and with the Insta 360 one (the 2nd 360 cam I own) I think the Samsung images look better, and I'm not sure if this is because of the higher resolution or otherwise better image quality. So I'm concerned that 18 MP might look even worse in a headset just because there aren't enough pixels for this application. BTW, do you know why 360 cams have a rather low photo resolution in general, even the high-end ones like the gopro Fusion?

I saw a few other comments asking to compare the insta 360 one x with the gopro fusion. My question for you is how well does the insta 360 one x work uploading and editing on a desktop? I havent used the fusion yet because my Mac is a few year old and I don't think it can handle the rendering. Not sure if that's just a Fusion thing or if it's all 360 cameras... I do a lot of mountain biking and looking to play around with the 360 cameras - stabilization seems to be pretty good?

Hey Ben, What 360 camera has the best audio? I live in China and I plan on doing run and gun style vlogs where I talk to random people and practice my Chinese, audio is an important consideration. Is there a good way to hook up external audio with 360 to capture everyone's voice? Battery life is also an important consideration because I'll be recording longer durations like conversations and dynamic spontaneous street interactions. People's reactions are important. I'm open to eventually buying 2 of the same camera in order to get more battery life. Should I mic up a lav on my shirt? On the camera? Start by trying onboard audio? My idea might be to just by a mi sphere since I can get a cheap one here to try and the battery is ~1.5 hours which seems not that bad, however the audio doesn't seem that good (and seemed better on the insta360 one, what about the oneX?) . I also love the discrete and cylindrical design of the qoocam, I think it is the most intuitive design for the 360 concept and I like the idea of a more discrete camera to not distract people from the interaction. What do you recommend? What are your thoughts? Thanks!

Hey Ben, I'm having some trouble with maintaining video quality when I transfer my footage from my phone (iPhone 8+) to my computer (Macbook Pro). The footage never seems to come out looking 4k. My workflow is as follows: 1.) Capture footage. 2.) Connect camera to phone with the usb to lightning cable 3.) Edit footage using freecapture. 4.) Export footage to iPhone photo library. 5.) Airdrop footage from my phone to my computer. Is there anything in particular I'm doing wrong? Thanks! Mike

I am in the market for a 360 cam. For overcapture video purposes mostly, likely some playing with little-plane. Will be my first 360, apart from panos from DJI Spark. The Insta360 software looks great and easy to use, and it looks like DaVinci will not do it without a commercial plugin. So I am looking for good quality and low price (with the software needed). In an RC plane, it might get hurt, so I am considering a cheap Samsung there - is this a viable option ? How about the Xiaomi (I know them, has multiple products from when I want quality from China) ? Supposedly close to same hardware specs. So bringing it down to software. Or is there really nothing small and cheaper on the side of the One X ? If not I will hold out until Black Friday.

I have a 2016 Samsung Gear 360, and a Mi Sphere, and it sounds like this takes the things I like love about them and combines them, and adds new and better things, so yes, this is most definitely of interest for me, and if the long term testing pans out, sounds like a perfect camera for I would say the over $250 price range. I do want to know how long it will record continuous video at both 4k and 5.7, on battery, and on external power, and if it overheats and shuts down like some of the others do. (I do stuff like recording concerts with the camera flying in the truss, or in the middle of the drum kit, so recording without crashing is important to me!

Hi Ben! My insta360 one x just came this afternoon. I was surprised that it can't be detected thru wifi from my Huawei android cellphone. Previously I had Mi sphere, and I didn't get such problems before. Is there a solution to this? How can I connect my Insta360 1x wirelessly to my cellphone? I already tried the Force Wi-fi mode. By the way, I have purchased your recent e-book about Tiny Planet, and it's awesome!

Hi, I state that I am totally inexperienced. I have encountered a problem viewing a newly shot video from a smartphone. In practice after recording the clip, I wanted to view it via my smartphone by connecting it to the insta via Wi-Fi and once the video started I noticed that the same had slowed down, at a speed similar to a 0.25x ... Do you have any advice to give me? I state that I have not exported the video to the smartphone, I watched it from the app in the camera section. Thank you

I love the design, same as Theta. the small screen is a nice addition. I don't have to look at the phone every time if I want to change the settings. sad that they lowered the resolution of the photos. and there's no such thing is a bigger pixel !! for 475$ I'm not sure should I wait for a newer and maybe higher res Theta. I will be definitely waiting for your deep review on this camera. question, I have about this camera is, How are photos do with sunlight and night? How is the battery life? the selfie stick doesn't look that hard or steady, at 3:31 it looks bent no ? is it worth buying or get a Manfrotto one? is it Google Streetview ready ? and now you need to do a comparison video with GoPro Fusion. :)

Hi Ben, when the iPhone is not able to playback in 5.7k, will the over capture in-app function reduce the resolution from 4k down to 1080p? Or can the app internally use the 5.7k source (without having it to play back) and output a 1080p resolution over captured video. In the case of 4k to 1080p it would be pretty worthless for a mobile workflow!

Ben Claremont: No, no, you got me wrong. I know that overcapture is down to 1080p. That’s not the point. The question is from which source they derive their 1080p on an iPhone. Down from 5.7k or down from 4k. Because the mobile app can’t playback/stitch the 5.7k version only a 4k version. So I was wondering what the source for the overcapture algorithm might be? Because if it is from 4k only then the whole mobile hype is worthless because we will get bad 1080p from a bad 4k source...

I have the 360 One and am happy with it for now but may upgrade down the road. It is good for my present uses. Will the Insta360X have accessories like underwater case? Pro is having removable battery, con is I don’t think it will work with my IPad Mini 4...

Ben, I really appreciate your camera reviews. I began with your videos comparing 7 or 8 cameras at once and started following which ones were your favorite. I was enamored with the Rylo at first but it is very clear from your reviews that the Insta360 One has thoroughly surpassed the Rylo. I don't own a 360 camera, yet. And my editing skills are pretty amateur. But, my family will be taking a trip to Disney World in the next year or two and I've already begun planning the video documentation. At this point it will definitely involve the Insta360 One X! So it's a planned expense. I can't justify the price of the Fusion even though it appears to do better in low light conditions. But... my real plan for the I3601X is adventure motorcycling! I have been riding next to cliffs or steep drop-offs with incredible views. I'm sure the 360 cameras are on the verge of TAKING OVER the motorcycle video arena! *Ben, have you considered a motorcycle?*
