I live in Mexico and I remember watching Top Gear for the first time on a TV at a Bennigan's restaurant in my city town. I didn't even know what it was but I was instantly hooked... Then went home, searched it (I don´t remember how since I didn't even knew the name of the show) and found some clips. Then, it was a real challenge to get the episodes in the web (because it didn't broadcasted in Mexico) but I watched all the series until it's end. It was quite something and really impacted my life. It's great to get to see the people who made all this possible. Thanks!

To the writers, TG is one of my favorite shows, as an American who is nearly 50. The Stig was a brilliant character in delivery. It drove home the point it was a race driver, and that was the focus, but had fun with the character, like a mythical automaton.

Top Gear was one of the best things of my twenties/thirties. I'd mourn the end of a season and be practically giddy at the trailers for the next. Brilliant people came together and made something more than the sum of their parts, some of the most remarkable TV ever made. And for me it's a feat which can't be repeated. It started with the Winter olympics - I was crying with laughter, and keep watching every so often. And those manufacturer / model (Lancia, Saab etc) pieces are art in their own right. Top Gear transcended being a show, it's become important history.

not British, so I don't get the whole cherished plate world where some combos seem so obscure that they're next to pointless. Same goes for the 928's plate. Quite a stretch for many people to imagine it meant that.
@VonBlade8 ай бұрын
@@pffyespff Not at all. If the plate was A91 IRQ (or DSTSTRM on a US plate) and they were going through Kuwait, Yanks would know what it meant. For Brits, 1982 Falklands conflict is writ large in our social consciousness. Given that the previous part to this the fixer/recon admitted they picked through many cars, and that in the UK you can search for car plates and what they're on, there is a 100% chance that the TG team either searched the plate and sourced the car, or randomly went through many cars and spotted the plate so picked that. There is a 0% chance it was entirely coincidence. Zero. I don't mind, it's what they did. I know legally and diplomatically they have to say it's a coincidence. If it was, Hammond is taller than Clarkson.
