Bend it like Beckham cast: Where are they now?

Even if it might feel like yesterday, it's now been 20 years since Bend It Like Beckham hit the movie screens first. It instantly made its cast stars. That being said, where are all of them now?

Parminder Nagra
Parminder appeared as the lead actress in Bend It Like Beckham, in which she played a talented football player named Jess, who became on-screen best friends with an unknown actress at the time, Keira Knightley.
Since appearing in the 2002 film, she has established a successful career in American television, much like her co-star.
Her first major part was as Neela Roagotra on the hit medical drama ER, which she played until 2009. Following that, she starred in the thriller TV series Alcatraz and, more recently, the Netflix sensation 13 Reasons Why, in which she played a guidance counselor.
Keira Knightley
As a result of her role in the football film, Keira was launched into movie stardom, and she soon established herself as the “It” girl of the Hollywood scene after starring in Love Actually, as well as the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films and portraying Elizabeth Swan a year later.
With leading roles in films such as Pride and Prejudice, Atonement, King Arthur and The Last of the Mohicans while also committing to an extensive fashion collaboration with Chanel, the actress has amassed a net worth believed to be around £45 million.
Despite her achievements, Keira revealed she took a year off work after suffering a "mental breakdown at 22" and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after being subjected to famous demands that made her feel "worthless."
Archie Panjabi
Archie Panjabi, who starred in Bend It Like Beckham as Pinky, is best known for her important role as Kalinda Sharma in the US courtroom drama The Good Wife, for which she relocated to New York to perform the part at the time.
The 48-year-old actress was already a well-established star when she appeared in the 2002 football film, and she has received numerous accolades in the years afterwards for her work on the big screen, including an Emmy in 2010 and an NAACP Image Award in 2012.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Jonathan has appeared in the film Bend It Like Beckham, where he played the love interest Joe.
In the following years, Jonathan appeared in such blockbusters as Mission Impossible III and the made-for-TV drama Elvis, as well as the critically acclaimed Tudors television series.
Following his professional successes, the 44-year-old has experienced publicized personal hardships as a result of his battle with alcoholism
Shaznay Lewis
Shaznay Lewis was well-known as the lead singer of the four-piece UK band All Saints at the time she was cast as Mel Goines, Beckham's teammate in the film Bend It Like Beckham.
She was cast in the role because the band, which had achieved considerable success in the late '90s, had disbanded shortly before production began.
Since then, Shaznay has maintained close contact with the members of All Saints, and she can frequently be seen hanging out with bandmate Nicole Appleton.
Anupam Kher
As Jess' father in Bend It Like Beckham, Anupam Kher was already a well-established actor who went on to have significant success in the film industry, landing roles in Bride and Prejudice in 2004, Caution in 2007, the Oscar-winning film Silver Linings Playbook in 2012 and in New Amsterdam since 2018. Anupam Kher is a member of the British actor's guild.
The 65-year-old brought tears to the eyes of viewers when he returned to the screen to reprise his role as Parminder's strict father - this time on the US medical drama ER, which she was also acting in at the time, reconnecting with the actress for the second time.
Shaheen Khan
In ``Bend It Like Beckham”, she portrayed Mrs. "Sukhi" Kaur Bhamra, a much-loved character.
She has continued to act since then, appearing primarily in British productions such as My Life As a Popat, Casualty, The Boy with the Topknot, and Apple Tree House, to name a few examples of her recent work.
Juliet Stevenson
Juliet Stevenson was a well-known actress in the United Kingdom when she landed the role of Jules' mother in Bend It Like Beckham.
After acting in the football film, the 65-year-old went on to star in Mona Lisa Smile, in which she co-starred with Julia Roberts as campus nurse Amanda Armstrong, and in Being Julia, in which she co-starred with Julia Roberts as Julia.
Preeya Kalidas
After appearing in a variety of films and television shows, including East is East, Bollywood Queen, My Family, and Casualty, she landed the role of Monica in Gurinder Chadha's film Bend It Like Beckham in 2002. She is also a model.
Following her departure from EastEnders, Kalidas embarked on a musical career, signing a record deal with Universal Records in the process. Her second single, "Shimmy" which featured Mumzy Stranger, was released on July 26, 2010, and became a hit.

Keira Knightly has turned out the most successful. But I really think she's not a particularly good actress. She's very overrated, she got lucky because of BILB. Saying that I think it's good that she didn't have all the plastic surgery. Her chest has always been small. Archie Baji has done well, mainly in the UK. And she's beautiful. The others are mediocre. Came in a few things, but no real impact.
