Fat has the most calories per gram, so it really makes the food calorie dense, specially a italian bmt with fatty cold cuts, cheese, guac and sauce, that's pure fat. At the same time, fat is what gets you the most satiated for the longest time, since it takes the longest to digest. So it's all about balance and selecting foods that work for your body. I follow the same approache as you, I only eat one big meal at night, I fiil my day with A LOT of water and coffee to feel light, hydrated and energized and then at night I have a big dinner and pass out.
