I love these nostalgic posts. I remember late 90s alien was making these very colourful neon type decks that sounded so damn crisp and the colours just accentuated the kicks and concave immensely. They seemed so damn hard always wanted one. I believe concave is much more pronounced on smaller boards my friends has a 7.8 and the concave has never left and it seems extremely steep. You said you got clean, I would love to hear more about that side of your life. Being a recovering addict myself I’m very interested in hearing more of that story. Classic kit with the light denim haha. Love that nollie back tail. Man I’d kill for a nice old ledge like that. Great video

I had one of them neon exp decks (green), can't remember who's model it was, but it was one of my all time favorite decks, along with Fred Gall's first model with the amazing rose graphic (wish I'd kept that one, bet it's worth a fortune now).

yeah man.. really good for getting back into skating.. i took a 14 year hiatus and came back and realized i dont remember anything about wheel bases or what ized wheels i liked or length of board i used to ride.. super good technical details here.. this whole series would be good with infographics and examples of setups.. maybe thats already on youtube and i havent seen it.. like that fighting show where they used science to see who has the most powerful mmartial arts attack- but with skateboard.. maybe check out different top level guys and how the science behind everyones gear choices works. You're right about boards in the mid-2000s feeling different from today. I remember riding some logo boards from Status (under Syndrome distribution) and they had really steep concave, kicks and were incredibly strong and snappy; the pop sound was semi-high pitched (not dull and heavy) and you knew from the first time you snapped your tail it was going to work with you and your skating.

I just recently purchased a Santa Cruz 8.125 board and I’m wondering about getting new trucks? Would using the 7.6 trucks on a wider board damage the board? Not all but a lot of decks were made to the riders specs at least the companies that gave a dang did that. Some companies just put out lousy boards they were all the same and just tossed a pros name.
