On the first level of Dusk I was panicking over the 3 guys and no gun and ran into the double barrel shotgun by accident. Any game that gives me the super shotgun in 3 seconds is good in my books.

Spoiler Ahead! If you want to FURTHER break the first Episode, you can find a Super Shotgun in the FIRST LEVEL by walking up the intended path, then walking THROUGH the slightly crooked stone textured wall at the far left when you come into the area with the corrugated steel walls.

It's actually possible to get every weapon except the hunting rifle by the end of e1m2. The earliest the hunting rifle shows up is part of the "intended" progression.

I would argue that it's graphically very good actually. It's a lot cruder and more primal, which is what I appreciate from old video game aesthetics, but it's also got such an inventive colour pallet that modern FPS formula basicly squanders and hurls out the window for being "unrealistic"

For many players it will be not modern enough sadly to sate their taste for it in modern gaming. BUT level design, aesthetics and color palette are REALLY good as you mentioned and i agree with you, sir, 100% in that term.

Most of the visuals are perfect, but man some of the gun models are trash. The riveter and the grenade launcher are especially bad, but everything other than the shotgun and super shotgun are..blegh.

Honestly i think it's way overrated. Many aspects of the game look rushed and choppy - enemies, weapons, maps... Play Arcane Dimensions with Quake 1.5 - that is Dusk done right.

Funny thing about the Cigar, if you puff it enough times, it slows you down I also learned on accident that you can use the MIGHTY SICKLES to bounce projectiles back at enemies. On small cultists and flamethrowers

I find it funny that he mentions how the crossbow is an easy weapon to underestimate. It is, but not as easy to underestimate as the starting sickles and their ability to hit projectiles back at enemies. Makes the guys with homing fireballs even more fun.

my favorite detail about the Second Experiment boss at the end of episode 1: before the first horse boss, the game gives you a puzzle where you have to flip multiple switches in a certain pattern. after the boss you see a similar arrangement of 6 switches and a door, so you'd think you have to figure out another combination right? wrong, as soon as you press any of the switches the door opens and the 2nd horse boss attacks you instantly. it's such a great fuck-you moment lol

Secret Spoiler There's a basket ball in Episode 1 Level 2 where you get the secret Riviter. Bring that back to the house and put it through the hoop on the side and you'll unlock Rachel's Secret, which gives you a ton of good stuff.

Fun fact: the duel shotties are from Marathon 2: Durandal and Marathon Infinity, even reloading the same way. Yes indeed, both games also reference Terminator 2 but the Marathon homage in DUSK is a nice touch, as that trilogy needs more reference love outside the Halo games; most references to it that aren't Halo or the past world in early Red Vs Blue are usually too subtle, unless it's by Ken Levine. (System Shock 2 and Bioshock Infinite. System Shock 1's similarities are just a coincidence)

Hey civvie, if you go to the secret that unlocks the riveter, on the left of the teleporter there is a basketball that you can teleport with you. If you take it to the house with the jump pad in it (the wall next to the pond) there is a basketball hoop. If you put it on top of the basketball hoop a secret door opens and gives you every weapon exept the super shotgun.

did you know that in e1m2 you can find a basket ball right by the underground teleporter. If you dunk it in the hoop on the house it will open the ground and it will give every weapon in the game.

JSYK, the madness crystal creates an AOE effect rather than hitting only one enemy, and from what I can tell, the monsters you hit are basically on your side until it wears off. Love the series so far!

Soap isn't even necessary to defeat the second experiment unless you want to conserve ammo, you can run right back up the arena stairs and sit in the doorway popping shots off at it and it can do nothing about it. To be fair, you could do this for both the first and second experiments.

You're not wrong about the Black Philip. In the second-last level of the game where you just fight hordes of enemies, they appeared after clearing like the second or third waves. My reaction was "These? Now? Pshaw!", and they proceeded to bring me down from 150 health to 22 in a couple of seconds.

Throwing stuff is an insta kill with almost any item, you can kill the leathernecks in the beginning by throwing rocks or barrels at them. I believe the soap does insta kill more things, though.

Crystal of madness doesn't just affect one enemy- it spawns an aoe madness cloud that turns any enemy that has the misfortune of wandering into it for the remainder of the level. on the later stages I used one on a chokepoint and led enemies back through it to cheese my way through a harder spot when I was a hit or two away from death.
