Dusk doesn't just emulate the greats well. In a lot of ways it surpasses them, and not just in a technological sense.

I wrote an action novel called Dusk in 2018. It features a dual pistol wielding heroine who clears room fulls of heavier armed enemies and wins every time. It's intense as hell.

JSYK, the madness crystal creates an AOE effect rather than hitting only one enemy, and from what I can tell, the monsters you hit are basically on your side until it wears off. Love the series so far!

This was the first and certainly won't be the only time I purchased a game recommended by Civvie before even watching the video on it. Everything about this game was so well done, it was a fantastic experience, and now it's fun to watch this series point out things I loved and things I missed.

I have a similar habit of buying games that Ssethzeentach or Mandalore review (barring anime crap anyway). Civvie is just the most recent one.

Stephan Weyte did voicework for this game! I can't find a listing for who did what voices, but I suspect he did the mage/cultist aggro voices.

Gotta give it to the Civvie, he makes the art of playing oldschool FPS look like a thing of beauty... ..Aaand that game goes on my wishlist and gonna get the moment I feel like playing a game involving mowing down copious amounts of enemies..

I like to think that Jakob knew the Intoxigator wouldn't even touch DuskDude, so he left booze lying around knowing the player wouldn't resist drinking it and getting intoxicated himself.

I played through it on the difficulty just below yours and loved it. The music is epic, I love the way it goes from eerie and creepy to balls to the walls metal when needed. The movement is superb, the enemies interesting, the level design is brilliant, I can't think of anything negative to say about it really. Also I just finished playing through the classic redux version of Shadow Warrior and the expansions and I love the Lo Wang reference with the soap here!

Fun, and admittedly random, fact: The basic chainsaw enemies share their name with a nickname for U.S. Marines. The name "leather neck" came from how the Marines would have leather around their necks on their combat uniforms. This was done to help against enemy soldiers when they run out of ammo and use their bayonets to stab the Marines in the neck. Whether or not the devs. meant to reference this is beyond me, but it's interesting regardless.

Hyper realistic graphics are great, but older looks can really add something to your game. The cut scenes in Planescape Torment, for example, are ugly as shit, but the look of them helps add to the other worldly vibe the whole game has.

my favorite detail about the Second Experiment boss at the end of episode 1: before the first horse boss, the game gives you a puzzle where you have to flip multiple switches in a certain pattern. after the boss you see a similar arrangement of 6 switches and a door, so you'd think you have to figure out another combination right? wrong, as soon as you press any of the switches the door opens and the 2nd horse boss attacks you instantly. it's such a great fuck-you moment lol

I felt like "I Can Take It" was too damn easy and "Cero Miedo" was too hard. However, once I found out about Intruder Mode, which starts you with only the melee weapon at the start, that coupled with "I Can Take It" was absolutely *perfect.* And the game automatically saves every time you start a level so you don't need to save manually every damn time. It's everything I wanted from Bethesda's Doom 64 re-release that had who knows how many people behind it and this was made by ONE. FUCKING. *GUY!!!* (Seriously, can Bethesda do *anything* right?!?) I still didn't like Dusk as much as Blood, mostly because the early poly visuals just aren't nearly as appealing to me. However, working within the intended visuals, it's far from poorly made from an artistic or atmospheric standpoint, just not something I personally can look past as easily. So far the only complaint I have about the music is that there's a combat sequence in one of the earlier levels that doesn't end when you kill all the enemies, and after sequence breaking by hunting secrets I didn't get to the room where the music is supposed to wind down so it made it difficult to think. Aside from that, the music's fantastic.
