Yes, I KNOW I am pronouncing CAMELLIA wrong too. I am human and just like all of you I will have words I do not pronounce correctly, It may take me years more before I break the habit of my mispronunciation. The good thing is you are all smart enough to know exactly what I mean. Just like when I hear everyone else pronounce words differently, I know what they mean and instead of correcting them and trying to make them feel stupid, I choose to assume they pronounce it that way because it is based on location and that just may be correct for their area.

I most certainly didn't know that that common shrub here was used for making tea! I don't do coffee, but love tea. I could save a fortune!

I have a dark pink one growing in my yard that’s more than 30 years old I’m sure. We’ve lived here 32 years and it was here when we moved here. Several times it’s grown more than 30 feet tall and is currently about 20 feet tall and about 15 foot wide. Before this video I didn’t know it could be used for anything. Thanks for letting me know I can make tea out of it. Being in the Deep South we drink lots of tea. I’ll be using it now for other than the pretty flowers.

Thank you for this. I always thought camellia was just a pretty flower. Recently I found out the camellia was was tea was made from. The way times are, im thankful to know I do have something I can make black tea from.

I am so glad to know this! This is our state flower and I have one that is over 50 years old that I am trying to rehab it. Lots of scrub oaks growing amongst the trunk system. It’s beautiful blooming in the midst of winter here when everything is dormant. I’ve often wondered about the differences in the camellia plants.

My mother had a huge bush growing beside the porch steps when she lived in North Carolina. The flowers were a deep pink and I swear, they looked like they were glowing in the evening when the sun started to set. Beautiful.

I'm absolutely not a plant person, I don't know anything about herbs, but I'm trying to learn a little about this plant and its uses as a writer. Since You mentioned Kale, it reminded me that kale makes a great fertilizer. I had some that was too old and I put in a container garden mixed with other compost. This made such a difference, my squash, peppers, and tomatoes grew very fast in a week. It does smell like concentrated rotting cabbage and kale mixture when I water it. Great information on a plant that I’ve loved all my life. They are beautiful and now I have more reason to love them. Thanks.

Mine blooms twice a year, usually fall and spring. I am looking forward to mine blooming again. I don’t drink regular tea, but being in the south, the rest of my family does, so I’ll check into making tea leaves. Thanks Heidi! On a side note, we have a pear tree that used to produce what we call cow pears, very hard pears even when shredded and cooked all day. It hasn’t put out pears in a few years, so I was going to have it cut down. On a whim, I checked out the benefits of the leaves and found out they have many! Pear tree stays where it is. 😊 Many Blessings!

Nice! I love finds like that! I should look into the benefits of peach leaves since we have two trees that are so beautiful when they are filled in (I love their more tropical look) but so rare we get any fruit and when we do, we get one, it is the most delicious flavor packed peach but one every couple of years just does not cut it! haha! I keep saying we need to just take these out but they are so pretty I hate to do it. So...off to learn about the benefits, if any, of the leaves

My neighbor has a lovely Camilla shrub beside her back door. I have enjoyed seeing it bloom the last few years. She gave all her grape vines to us to harvest for the last few years. She recently passed so we will now need to rely on our own grapes and I will look for a Camilla to be able to make these things.

I use the blooms to wash my hands when I'm in the garden. If you scrub your hands with a flower, it will lather up and then ri se. It washes the dirt off my hands well.

I'm so glad you made this video. The nursery next to my house specializes in these camellias and i've always waffled about whether or not I should purchase one. I've had bad luck growing true tea, so I wasnt sure if I could grow these.. As well as the fact that I don't really like to grow flowers unless they also have medicinal or culinary value.

I want to get a dark red or dark pink to compliment the pink one I have! I am thinking since t hey are evergreen, they could also be a great option for a hedge row so they could make a fence AND be pretty AND have medicinal uses!

🤗 ca Meal ya is how it’s pronounced… we love them down around the New Orleans area. The climate is perfect for them. Even our prized red beans are named Camellia and have the Camellia flower on the package. Thanks for sharing the knowledge ✌🏻

QUICK UPDATE: The only thing I'm finding about growing zones are 7-9; being in between zones 4 and 5, I'd have to grow indoors where I live in Maine 🥺 Not having room in my small house, that isn't an option. Guess I have to order flowers, seeds, leaves if I want to use for medicinal purposes. This breaks my heart. If anyone finds any other research for zone 4-5, please respond. Heartbroken ....

White and green teas are just different levels of fermentation. Green --> white --> black. Oolong is somewhere in between white and black, but the leaves are kept intact. Or something like that. 😉

No, they are not the same. Tea Tree is also known as Melaleuca alternifolia

Ours is on the south side of the house right up next to it but I would love to start a hedge row of them as a "fence" along the side. They take awhile to get big enough to provide privacy but it would be a usual and lovely option

This is not a lower growing shrub, it gets very tall. and I prune it like crazy to keep it from being too tall since it is right up next to the house.

My neighbor makes maple syrup from their trees. She said stored in the freezer. So it won't get big crystals. My little container got big crystals when I didn't use it. Why is that?

I am guessing this comment is meant for the video I did on storing maple syrup. It is common for any type of liquid sugar to crystalize but mine has been just fine, especially vacuum sealed in jars
